hey ciper..

you know, this page has been so long that make people lazy to read the whole page..

maybe you could put your FAQ link and any useful stuff into the first page..

and let developers and tester read the rest page..

just a thought,so there won't be too many people asking about stuff you write on FAQ..

Thanks for the reply ciper, I didn't knew about the encrypted networks arent supported. So this is the reason for not being able to connect to my router, I was actually just trying the networkselector and tried to connect to the wep encrypted network but it wouldn't connect as mentioned in my dmesg output. So does that mean I need to remove the encryption from my router? man its not very secure as if i do this anyone would be able to use my network! is there any workaround from this problem.

I checked the troubleshooting page and will update you soon what the new output comes out.

The only thing I had problems from the begining was that in the installation pages networkselector is mentioned but it is not available seperately. It was not even mentioned that this utility will be included in the .dmg package so it was very confusing at first.

So I will soon update with the outcomes and if there is any workaround with using a wep key please reply!

ciper,

can you change the iwidarwin for the ip address? do you still want to have

in networkselector?

can someone check the code? i feel that with the right changes this drivers will start to work

I turned the ethernet card off, tested and turned it on again.

Do I need to turn it down, reboot and test it?

this should be in iwidarwin.

you only need to turn off other interfaces - but if you get bugs try a reboot

you can reboot from windows into mac os with the card powered on - this will help

also disable the bluetooth extensions if you have it

Hello everyone,

I am quite new to MAC so please don't mind my studpid questions!

I had no,luck installing the jas 10.4.8 because of installer crashing all the times even with vmware so got the 10.4.7 and it installed fine on my laptop, this is the version I installed http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/437338/5118536/

My specs:

Acer Aspire 5504

Centrino 2 GHz (SSE and SSE2 instruction set)

1GB RAM

Intel Pro/Wireless 2200bg

To be honest I don't quite understand what to do once installed the .dmg package from the google project page?

could please any one help!!!

hi harvinder,

i have the same notebook.

it's all fine with this driver (except the mem leak bug)

after booting i have only to push the wireles button twice ( switch off and then on)

to activate the network scanning.

i use dhcp for network configuration (in preferences).

right,

I am gonna test it right now leaving the ethernet card off and going from windows to mac os X directly.

10 minutes.

cheers

edit: done, turned off the ethernet card, rebooted and tested.

here are the logs.

same problem with strange mouse behaviour.

Well thanks for the reply, So, is that true that you need to remove all the encryptions in order to run the wireless network? it seems so unsecure because anyone would then be able to get onto the network without any problems!

Yeah actually after I posted my previous thread I managed to find the networkscanner thing and it found the router but could not log into it as it is secured with a wep encryption.

Any information about the security please post!

jalavoui, please excuse my previous "empty" response since i did not include the necessary debugging files from my testing.

i hope this helps.

have a great day.

harvinder: If you want to connect using the current version of the driver you will have to remove encryption. I know this isnt ideal but consider this -

Are you more worried about your neighbor hacking you or the people on the internet? Wireless encryption only prevents people 200 feet away from "hacking" you. I would be far more worried about someone on the internet attacking my machine which could be any place in the world. I personally believe that security should be handled on your machine.

I took your advice about not knowing where to get NetworkSelector and updated this page http://code.google.com/p/iwidarwin/wiki/NetworkSelector to say it is included in the DMG file :)

jalavoui:

Can you edit your first post on page 1 of this thread to say

"Please read the FAQ here http://code.google.com/p/iwidarwin/wiki/FAQ

I'm sorry I dont know what you meant. Do you mean on the troubleshooting page where it asks you to ping a host on the internet?

Adapter EN0 (00:13:ce:b7:9c:00) Associated with 'Quickly-WiFi (00:16:16:03:56:60) CH 11'"

in networkselector?

Perhaps it is too much information? I was thinking from a troubleshooting point of view that it would help the solve simple problems without looking through log files.

How about this? Keeps it clean

Wellcome to the insanelyMac SpacePort 0.1

Adapter EN0 (00:13:ce:b7:9c:00) [mode: 0 led: off]

Associated: 'linksys (00:06:25:10:18:11) ch: 11'

1) Turn card off

2) Network List

3) Switch led

4) Change mode

5) Close Program

0) Refresh

Enter Option:

If you think its too much maybe consider only adding the channel number to the network list. I have been in locations where there are two "linksys" SSID, it is a lot easier to remember a channel number rather than a MAC. Also because in a corporate environment it is common to have the same SSID on every channel to allow roaming.

Well thanks for the reply, So, is that true that you need to remove all the encryptions in order to run the wireless network? it seems so unsecure because anyone would then be able to get onto the network without any problems!

Depending on your router, you should be able to do some MAC address filtering so that your router denies access to any device who's MAC address isn't in its list of approved devices. This is my preferred method of securing an "unsecure" WiFi connection.

Alternatively, you can turn off the DHCP server of your WiFi router and manually set the IP on your wireless devices. This works best if you change your router's LAN IP to something other than the default 192.168.1.1 (like perhaps 10.0.0.1). This will keep the average neighbor from being able to get on your network (they'll be able to connect to the router, but they'll get a "limited connection" message and won't be able to access the Internet or other computers on your local network.

Unfortunately, you won't be on an encrypted connection... but WEP isn't very good encryption either. However, if someone nearby you has the tools/knowledge to sniff your unencrypted packets, then he/she would also be able to crack your WEP encryption as well. WPA and WPA2 are a different story of course, but if you look at how many people are running WEP (or even completely unsecured networks), you might feel a little more comfortable with having an unencrypted network with MAC filtering.

NOTE: I am not responsible for what happens on your network, please don't come yelling at me if you get hacked (whether or not you adjust your WiFi encryption settings).

P.S. - I've been following this thread for a while now and I just wanted to say thank you so much to jalavoui, moseschrist and everyone else who is working on this project! I have a 3945abg card myself, and can't wait until I can connect with it. I would love to get more involved and help out with the development, but I'm super busy with school and work right now and just don't have the time to commit to this right now. If I ever get some free time, I'll definitely pop in and try to help out as much as I can.

ciper: thanks for the information, I just thought that there may be some other things I could do to enable wep. Anyways all is well, its good to have the internet working rather than no hope what so ever. The networkselectore page looks nicer now as people would know from now that they don't have to download this tool seperately.

silentshab: Thanks for the information you provided, I know the wonders of using the MAC validation, but I am not sure whether this feature is included in router, its a thomson router and provided by BE broadband. I will have to look into that as my previous netgear router had this feature.

So all in all thank you for all the help!

Hello,

MAC address is read with latest version :-)

In SysPref at Network I got a pop-up: new_device_detected, see pic attached.

My Wlan led is on and blinking frequently which is normal (IBM T40).

DHCP is set but not connected to my open network.

Logs are attached:

If im running a dual boot between windows and mac and i install the driver, will it wreck the cards compatability with windows?

You do not need to worry. The IWI driver makes no permanent changes to the card. The only issue you might see is if you used NetworkSelector to turn the card off and when you boot into windows its still off? Your network card utility can fix this, booting back into OSX and turning it back on can fix it or shutting the machine off and back on should clear it.

I am running XP and OSX without any problem with my 2200 or my 2915 :thumbsup_anim:

Same here :-) The card gets detected yay

Is there already a networkSelector version which works with

iwi2100 support?!?

Thanks for your hard work! If I can help you somehow

tell me what to do :-)

Wanted to let everyone know that semthex kernel 8.8.1 beta 9 works fine with this driver (date Sat Dec 9 22:18:27 AZOT 2006 )

I see about five people who get the message "Could not get ID for kernel control. 2 logout" recently. This happens when the iwi2200 kext is not loaded. Either you dont have iwi2200 installed, you have not rebooted since installation or the kext did not load at startup (are you running safe mode?)

I have added the error to the faq

http://code.google.com/p/iwidarwin/wiki/FAQ

A networkSelector problem:

-------------------------------

Hi Guys,

I have a question, when I run networkSelector and choose option 2 to see the available networks, it only shows/lists only two wireless networks from the many available ones....(so, i need to reboot the machine and run the networkselector several times in order to be able to see my desired network in that list of two...it seems it is choosing random two of the ones which has highest signal strength...) Do you also experience this, or is it only happening to me :thumbsup_anim:... ?

other than this small problem of mine, this thing is really working  ... Thank you very much guys, for all your efforts and help...

Butelo: NetworkSelector only works for iwi2200 driver right now

Stavro: I noticed that too. I thought it was an issue with my access point we should try to figure out why it happens. Have you ever seen more than 2 networks listed?

jalavoui: I have seen the same issue as Stavro. I have never seen more than two networks listed from option 2 in NetworkSelector. I have 2 802.11b networks under my control and a few from my neighbors. Sometimes my unencrypted network doesnt show up as an option even though i am only 5 feet away.

naqnil: Run "kextstat | grep iwi" from terminal and see what is listed. Then can you try to load the kext manually from the terminal and see if you get an error? What network adapters are listed when you open network preferences? Do you see "Built-in Ethernet" listed?

I will add "kexstat | grep iwi" to troubleshooting :(
