Fast, painless and tiny (1.61 GB) sequential OTA update from macOS 26.4 to macOS 26.5 beta 1 (25F5042g).

There is no KDK yet for macOS 26.5 beta 1. OCLP 3.0.0 Nightly (amfipassbeta variant) works flawlessly with Kernel Debug Kit 26.4 (build 25E246) from macOS 26.4. AppleHDA, Wi-Fi and AWDL are fully functional. The same likely applies to OCLP-Mod 3.1.7 and OCLP-Plus 3.1.8.

Are there major macOS 26.5 beta updates still to come?

Useful context information:

a.) EFI-Folder distribution

b.) Experimental Fork of OCLP 3.0.0 Nightly

c.) OCLP-Mod

d.) OCLP-Plus

e.) X299 Guidelines

Cheers,

Too easy! VoodooHDA.kext 3.1.2 (Audio) and itlwm 2.3.0/Heliport 1.5.0 (Intel Wi-Fi) continue to work perfectly.  SIP csr-active-config = <01000000>.

Maybe my 8th generation Intel i7 processor is not up to the task or maybe it's getting old like me, but my laptop was incredibly sluggish when first starting after the update.  It's getting better now that it's been running for a couple hours but I don't know, Tahoe doesn't seem to have the zip it once had, at least for my hardware.

I think that's normal. My 10th Gen was a little sluggish immediately following the update, but it's back to its normal self now.  Good enough for office use while making me excited for Apple silicon when the time comes.

My laptop is running very low on free disk space which can impact performance.

Have the icons been fixed?

Unfortunately, my friend, they won’t go back to normal, and I think from now on Apple is going to crack down, and it will only be possible to read the icons on Arm64 hardware and some Intel devices.

Sirs! Why some of you has RX570/580 with Metal 2 while other has Metal 3? What is the key patch for that?

I have two cards:
1. Veineda Graphics Card RX 580 8GB with Metal 2
2. Sapphire RX580 8GB Nitro with Metal 3
It's probably because one of them is a 2048SP.

I thought RX570/580 were Metal 2.  My guess is that the supported Metal version is being incorrectly reported.

Hey everyone, do you typically do an incremental update or clean install on hackintosh?
Do you experience any lag or slow down after the update or clean install?

I typically perform incremental updates.  Not unusual to see some lag immediately after the upgrade as macOS completes the update in the background.

This update was so problematic for me I had to revert to 26.4.  I was able to install it but I was stuck on the screen your update was complete click continue.  When I did so I got the login to Apple account.  This is where I got stuck.  After logging in it did nothing.  Left it for 20 minutes.  Nothing.  Tried bypassing the login which I could do but again nothing.

Now I have seen this series of screens before in the last couple of betas and I was able to get in by simply a hard reboot.  This time no.  However I did manage once to get to the desktop loading after clearing NVRAM but it then reverted to the your update to Tahoe is complete.

In the end I had to reinstall via recovery and this put 26.4 back on my machine.  I was able to recover my profile ok.  I was then able to update to 26.4 233 using public beta.

I think I will hold off on further beta testing for a bit.  Does anyone have any further ideas on why this is happening?  Bluetooth is disabled and no OCLP patches installed.

@Zevgoli Please post your EFI and your system specs (Motherboard, CPU, Graphics) to make it easier to offer suggestions.

i5 quad core processor.  Dell motherboard.  Not sure if there is a model number.  Intel graphics 4600 5mb integrated into the board.  The PC is from 2017 or so.  A bit long in the tooth I admit but it works so far.  Thank you.

@Zevgoli I feel a sense of deja vu ;)  Here are a couple of things to check:

  • Why do you have ' csr-active-config ➣ 03080000' in your boot-args?
  • What are your expectations for using Haswell graphics in macOS Tahoe without OCLP graphics patches?

LOL.  Yes Déjà vu indeed.  The config list I attached was for an earlier post which you answered successfully.  I was on my iPad when posting and was too lazy to go downstairs to my hack to get the updated list.  The csr... was removed to solve the earlier problem.  As for the Haswell graphics, I believe there are no satisfactory patches till the dortania OCLP 3.0.  So I have been running without them.  Currently updated OCLP patches mainly address sound and wi-fi issues which I don't care about.  Am I wrong?

I've decided not to update from macOS 26.3.1 (25D2128) to next macOS until the custom icons issue is fixed.
I set SIP:0xFFF
Then the command: sudo launchctl disable system/com.apple.softwareupdated
After which I return SIP:0x803
And no more updates bother me.
You can reverse the process.
Command: sudo launchctl enable system/com.apple.softwareupdated
Check: launchctl print-disabled system | grep softwareupdated
