Is this the entire Big Sur full install = 11.6?  Apology for asking since the file is InstallAssistant.pkg, never seen one prior.

Seems the beta testing blocks all updates for some reason everything from and after 11.5 and beyond.

may need a new beta insertion app to carry further up.

Interesting part here what would cause the (20G165) not to show up?

Used to show up but since 11.5 has not.  

 

had to use Terminal >> sw_vers

What's a "new beta insertion app"?  If you've signed into the beta program, indeed you won't get any offers for mainstream updates until you opt out. It's always been like that and it's been said and written many times before on the forum and right at the top of this very page!

 

Build number has never been shown by default. One has to click on the OS X/macOS version for the build # to appear...

 

Or are you saying that, in your case, the build # does not show up when you click on "Version 11.6" ?

For the About Mac, yes, the build number used to show everytime on the previous before. but since updating to 11.x no build number

(20G71) maybe because I did click it before out of chance.... funny

 

For the beta testing I didn't read that part.. oops..

@antuneddu Just wandering where you got Big Sur 11.6.1 build 29G211 from. Nowhere on the internet can I find a reference to this Big Sur iteration that you have installed.

yes it is strange I also tried to look for it, but it is nowhere, even typing the link that showed in the notification https://support.apple.com/KB/HT201222 "Could not find the page you are looking for" but I can guarantee that have downloaded and installed it 🙂 after enroll to developer update , as well as detected @fantomas

I also got the update (2.53GB) automatically as an update on September 29th, 2021 on my original iMac mid 2020 and also installed it.
It's strange that you don't get any more information on the net, no change log or the like, nothing to be found, as if this update never existed.

Done.  I also had an update for "device support" which allows an iOS or iPadOS device to be restored.

The update is a no show for me, changed SMBios but didn't work... 

Run the script to enroll in developer beta, and showed the update to macOS Monterey...

Update made, but I can't put images here because I lost bluetooth, I don't know how because I only have an EFI that boots both Big Sur and Monterey and in Monterey I have bluetooth... weird, weird, weird...

Big Sur 11.6.1 is available, and offered as an upgrade, when enrolled in the "Apple Developer Seed Program" Safari 15.1 is also bundled with that upgrade option.

Presently downloading, size 2.53 GB.

Edit: Smoothe upgrade to Big Sur 11.6.1 - it also added some "device support update" required for backing up                and restoring iOS devices.

Will monitor behaviour of this new Big Sur iteration for a while before I will consider upgrading my other hacks.

Hello @Hervé ... yes, can you continue to use the 11.6.1 update that I have downloaded and have already installed,

or is it faulty and accidentally (because there are errors in it) were delivered?
should one uninstall it again or reinstall a backup of 11.6?

or can one continue to use the 11.6.1?

@AlfredoM I am using 11.6.1 on 2 of my 5 hacks where this new "beta" code is being thoroughly tested on, which used to be, released Big Sur 11.6 incarnations. The downgrade to beta 11.6.1  from 11.6 release - yes you figure - is working well and is proving to be stable.

Rather strange things happening in strange Apple places. Apple has in the interim elevated 11.6.1 to public beta status.
