leslieking
The new kernel (included in 10.4.8) work with SSE2? Any idea? Thanks ! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34719-1048-kernel-question/ Share on other sites
the_defiant
No, it does not. It will, as soon as semthex finishes the SSE3 emulation for 8.8.1. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34719-1048-kernel-question/#findComment-246372 Share on other sites
Prasys
Yep , untill you're on OSX 10.4.4's kernel. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34719-1048-kernel-question/#findComment-246404 Share on other sites
leslieking
Prasys I don't really understand. If semthex finish the SSE2 support, is possible for me to use Titan on SSE2 and OSX 10.4.8 ? SeattleDani
The new kernel (included in 10.4.8) work with SSE2? Any idea? Thanks ! Well, i don´t know if this works for you, but it worked for me!!!... Did an blank instalation of JaS 10.4.7 on my P4 3.06 HT SS2, mobo intel 865 Platinium Edition, then installed the JaS 10.4.8 DVD as an upgrade (but i did it booting), installed the semthex kernel BUT I DID NOT USED ANY SS3 Patch!!!!!, IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!!!!, i have a Nvidia 6200 AGP, used the titan and i have QE/CI working!!! Everything works OK!!!, sound (native, stereo), lan (using the realtek patch installer), and the titan!!!, and the system profiler said that im runing the 8.8.1 Kernel!!!.... Sorry about my english!!!..... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34719-1048-kernel-question/#findComment-246875 Share on other sites
Rammjet
Are you sure your processor isn't capable of SSE3? The only SSE3 patch on the 10.4.8 DVD IS the Semthex kernel. And the only thing the patch installs is the kernel itself. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=6330 No one anywhere else has gotten the new kernel to run on an SSE2 processor. It just doesn't have the required instructions built into it yet. eyemac
Can one use the newest JAS 10.4.8 install (NOT update, but rather full install) to udate from 10.4.6 or 10.4.7 to 10.4.8 WITH the new Kernel (8.8.1). I had read in other threads that the 10.4.8 updates out there (?Kiko, JAS) do NOT actuall y update the Kernel. I am looking to update my Kernel from 8.4.1 so I can use the AppleHDA.kext for ACL882. Thanks. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34719-1048-kernel-question/#findComment-247215 Share on other sites
Rammjet
udate from 10.4.6 or 10.4.7...I am looking to update my Kernel from 8.4.1 so I can use the AppleHDA.kext for ACL882. Thanks. The Paulicat method starts with a working 10.4.6 or 10.4.7 installation and gets you a full 10.4.8 with new kernel: http://paulicat.freeflux.net/blog/archive/...rade-guide.html Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34719-1048-kernel-question/#findComment-247232 Share on other sites

BUT IM RUNNING 8.8.1 KERNEL WITH SS2!!!.... i have a old P4 socket 478 3,06 SSE/SS2/HT on a mobo MSI INTEL 865 Platinium Edition 1GB RAM DDR 400.... Just did a blank instalation of JaS 10.4.7 DVD with the JaS 10.4.7 combo patch and the SS2 Patch.... Then i did an Upgrade of the DVD JaS 10.4.8 INTEL ONLY SS3(booting) using the combo 10.4.8 update Patch, winloggin 10,4,4 patch and the USB patch (it doest work!!!! have to install the USB DEV KIT to work....) BUT I DID NOT INSTALLED ANY SS3 PATCH........ I`ll create a new post in the forum with some pictures to prove that!!! Sorry for my spanish - english translation....!!! gotoh
but you certainly don't have 10.4.8 kernel (8.8.1) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34719-1048-kernel-question/#findComment-248491 Share on other sites
Rammjet
and the USB patch (it doest work!!!! have to install the USB DEV KIT to work....) Strange thing is that several people have had problems with the USB patch, but it actually came from the Apple USB kit. I`ll create a new post in the forum with some pictures to prove that!!! Go to Terminal and type: uname -a This will give the kernel version and compile date. NeSuKuN
according to intel's site, socket 478 HT supporting p4 processors have SSE3 I had one of that CPUs (478, HT, SSE3, 3,06Ghz) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34719-1048-kernel-question/#findComment-248498 Share on other sites
Rammjet
Downloading and running CPU-Z in Windows will tell SSE2 or SSE3 capability. Also, go to Terminal and type: sysctl machdep.cpu.features Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34719-1048-kernel-question/#findComment-248506 Share on other sites
semthex
It's technial impossible to run the current kernel with a sse2 machine. I am currently developing SSE2 support and it is very close to finish, but will need a day or two. Hang on for it, won't take long anymore I think. Rammjet
It's technial impossible to run the current kernel with a sse2 machine. Yes, just trying to help him prove to himself that he has an SSE3 machine by running CPU-Z or quizzing kernel. SpeedfreaK
Isn't HT SSE3? So if you have a HT cpu, you have a SSE3 cpu. It's not possible to run the SSE3 kernel on a SSE2 machine (like semthex said)! Korrupted
I'm pretty sure that some older P4s had HTT and not SSE3.. From Wikipedia: "In April 2003, Intel launched new 800 MT/s FSB variants, ranging from 2.4 to 3.0 GHz. The key difference on these new versions was that they all supported Hyper-Threading, and ran their system buses at 800 MT/s." Back in 2003, SSE3 wasn't out, so there you go.
