Though those big cats looks awesome, I prefer the wall papers as the icons to be consistent with the rest of the OS X & macOS icons (which are default wallpapers).

I did my own GoldeGate (similar to @HJebbour) like this:

You have a good point considering Default Wallpapers but placing the HD on the icon takes away a lot of vision on the images, in my opinion its not verry clean and this is why I created a Selected with a smaller disk

Good point. I guess the HD/Ext/Recv image placed on the icon could be smaller.

It's just that I find the smaller disk image on the Selected icon a little too small - specially on a 13" screen.

 

Also, I think the graded ring around my icon is a little too fat...probably should be half the width to see more of the icon inside.

Brilliant !!

The apples now clearly show which Mac OS's are associated with the icon by using the wall papers.

Your next challenge is all the Windows and Linux Distro's 😜
