Enabing Keyboard's Backlight in macOS

How to enable your Keyboard's Backlight in macOS

1. Extract and place the attached binary file [Keyboard-Backlight.zip] in your /Application folder as shown below.

2. Open Terminal window and type the following:

 

/Applications/Keyboard-Backlight  (To switch ON)  :thumbsup_anim:

/Applications/Keyboard-Backlight off  (To switch OFF)  :thumbsup_anim:

OR

 

Just install these two files by double clicking them [Keyboard BackLight.zip:D

3. Once they are installed, you may go to Finder >> Services to toggle between ON & OFF.

4. That's it! You're done. Enjoy your hack with backlights. :drool: :thumbsup_anim: :thumbsup_anim:

 

 

To uninstall

1. Delete the binary file from /Application
2. Navigate to ~/Library/Services and delete both the Keyboard BackLight ON/OFF files.

I'm afraid it is limited to desktop for now. Probably, I will look into laptop's compatibility in the future. Anyway, forgot to mention, as long as you are using an external keyboard (even with laptops), this tool should work fine. :D

I have a backlit Bluestork keyboard and I can not turn it off from os x, since when the driver loads it lights up and the function keys (Fn) do not go, try your trick and it does not turn it off either. Do you know any way ?, sorry for my English

You can try re-mapping your key to "Scoll Lock" but can't promise that it will work. Most likely your keyboard's backlight is controlled by a custom key stroke that has been pre-determined by the manufacturer.

Sorry for bringing back this topic, but, i need some help.

I tried everything on the internet, only this one worked, but worked only one time, now when i type in terminal, don't work anymore, either the service wont work.

Any ideas ?
