Hi guys,

I recently built my Intel Hackintosh with the MSI H81M-E34, and I was wandering if I was able to somehow get the equivalent of Thunderbolt or even maybe Thunderbolt (itself) onto my Hackintosh? I saw something on the internet about this Expansion card with a Thunderbolt I/O port and a DisplayPort Input Port made by ASUS for selected ASUS motherboards. Would I have any success with this? I noticed that this PCI card has this thunderbolt header thing and maybe I wouldn't have to use that?

Thunderbolt does actually work, But only on specific boards.

The Add-On card for Asus motherboards isn't very reliable unless running windows. (no Hotswap ie: legacy Mode & needed constant BIOS reset to re-allocate resources when moving PCI-e cards). I nearly gave up on this.

I'm working on better support for the Gigabyte x99 Designaire series. It has x1 onboard TB3 port, and does work fine.. But it is not detected, so some 3rd party thunderbolt device drivers do not load properly or at all. Drives, and adapters seem ok, BlackMagic Devices were ok. Just about anything that's working in Windows will have a decent chance of working in OSX.

I got the Asus ThunderboltEX 3 add-in pcie card thinking it might work with the GA Z270 gaming 5 mobo but the pins on the motherboard are to thin. I found that out When I pulled the cables out of the housing of the system link cable trying to fit them one by one to the pins on the motherboard. I have not been able to find some way of shinking the metal connectors on the end of the cables or find new ones I can solder on with a smaller diameter. Since the pin housing (sorry I do not know the right english word for it) on the motherboard is smaller than on the Asus boards the cables need to be pulled out from it and put on one by one but like I said over here they will fall of of or wiggle and make contact and short eachoother if you cannot find a way to fix this.

I have read that some people got it to work on z170 ga mobo so I guess older ga mobos might have the same system link housing as on asus mobos.
