Since there were some annoying glitches beside the system profile "problem" it woudl not display the baloon help or select correctly text and such. PCMCIA wasn't working but it's working in 10.4.7, etc. So, I went back to 10.4.7 where everything works (except my videocard for which there is no driver). If I ever try 10.4.8 again I will definitely try colonels' patch. thank you colonels!
