Because JaS 10.4.8 has been released for the Intel SSE2 and SSE3, I have patched mine and created this topic if you are having problems or are finding bugs in it. If the mods think this is of use to anyone, please sticky it.

It doesn't really matter to me, but you notice in my above screenshot that It says "3.6 GHz Unknown" and before it said "3.6 GHz Celeron D"

Just wondering what caused that to happen, and why?

Just wondering JaS, who is victori?

<string>Thanks to victori, without him this would not be this complete and would have taken longer.

good Luck,

JaS published a note that before running his 10.4.8 update, you should modify the package by moving the "postflight" file from the Contents folder to the Resources folder.

If you failed to do this, then you would need to repair permissions using the install DVD and you would have to use the Networking patch (for Samba and AFP) that was produced for 10.4.7.

or just simply fixed by run these command from terminal:

sudo -s

just copy-paste below then enter

ln -s "/System/Library/CoreServices/AppleFileServer.app/Contents/MacOS/AppleFileServer" "$3/usr/sbin/"

unlink "$3/System/Library/Filesystems/afpfs.fs"

diskutil repairPermissions "$3/"

Even in 10.4.7, I cannot boot in gui safe mode.

What is strange is that in 10.4.7 it stays stuck on a white screen.

Whereas with 10.4.8 it gets stuck on a red screen....

go figure lol :pirate2:

I guess will have to live with it... :censored2:

and since that was my main issue about upgrading to JaS 10.4.8, will go back to it soon, but prefer to do it from the combo, maybe some other weird bugs will have been ironed out in the combo...

It will help if someone confirms that they cannot safe mode gui boot... maybe it is my own system...

will try later in vmware and see if safe boot gui is possible...

I repost this here:

after following the advice of a well meaning dude, I lost part of hardware info in System Profiler, It used to give me the CPU capabilities, now all I have left is this:

Hardware Overview: (on JaS 10.4.8, with re-installing System Profiler from 10.4.7) - I also re-installed 10.4.8, just in case-

combo updates meaning... 10.4.4, 10.4.5, 10.4.6, 10.4.7 to 10.4.8?

A delta update only updates the previous version - update from 10.4.7 to 10.4.8

A combo update contains files to update several versions - update 10.4.5 or 10.4.6 or 10.4.7 to 10.4.8

Delta updates from Apple are just called updates. Combo updates from Apple are called combo updates.

I have found a solution for the problem with DVDSP importing .m2v files created by compressor. This worked for me and I tested it by breaking it again and fixing again and rebooting a few times to make sure it stays fixed.

I replaced /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppleVA.framework with the AppleVA.framework from the 10.4.6 update (v3) package, that was it, worked for me, haven't found any problems yet. Tested with 10.4.7 and 10.4.8 worked for me with both.

Repair permissions did not work for me. My system is completely unstable. I highly recommend not doing this patch until the bugs are worked out.

When I open my applications folder I get the pinwheel mouse cursor for like 30 seconds.

If I go to the command prompt and do a sudo anything I get the password prompt and it still fails to process the command as root.

Pacifst gave errors saying that it could not access Root.

I used the install DVD and Resat all my passwords. Still no root.
