bubugugu
so I was told osx86 wont recognize SiS IDE controller hence you will always get this "waiting for root device" error. is there any ongoing effort to solve this prob? I did searches on the forum the other day and was told AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext will be loaded for some old sis motherboard. And it got me into thinking, would that be possible to edit some kext file into fooling osx86 to load like an Intel/VIA controller driver for SIS chipset? (just like what you did loading VIA SATA driver for nForce SATA drives) anyone? bubugugu
I'm using ASUS P4S800-MX (SiS 661FX), no luck. on HCL there are a few success cases reported with SiS chipsets (including sis661fx) Seems like some sis mobo work but some don't Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25492-sis-ide-controller/#findComment-172733 Share on other sites
etherealbeats
I'm using ASUS P4S800-MX (SiS 661FX), no luck. I have the eaxct same board as you, and getting the "still waiting for root device" error. I managed to install it through VMWare and I can use it through VMWare, but I desperately want to run it natively. digiplaya2005
Hey Saxmachine, I indeed have the same mobo you were using (trying to get OSX86 to work native.) I can install OSX emulated within VMWare as you did (VMWare install method), but I also can't get the actual hard drive to boot natively. When I try to boot off the OSX hard drive, it gives me the following error: "PRESS KEY FOR REBOOT" or similar error. I'm wondering if you got an error like this on your setup. Have you found a solution yet for this mobo but haven't posted it yet? UPDATE: I've actually got the system booting, but it doesn't fully boot (in graphics mode, I get a spinning cone and then the cancel or no smoking type sign!) which I believe to be a 'still waiting for root device' error. etx
So their is no way right now to use the SATA on SiS 661FX? With my PATA drive on ide0 master and DVDRom as slave I can get my 10.4.4 DVD to boot into the installer, but it's very slow. The problem is that there is no XATA driver with DMA support for this chipset hdd controller. Therefore slow transfers (i.e. GenericPCATA driver is used or sth like that). We need a kext for it. The same goes for SATA, I guess. Anyone? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25492-sis-ide-controller/#findComment-238445 Share on other sites

etx
etx, I have my second hard drive on ide0 master and my DVD drive on ide3 slave. And I can't even get into the installer. I believe you have to move your DVD drive to your primary ide channel in slave mode and it should work. Worked for me, but it's too slow to deal with.
