  1. Well, then just get a HP/Dell/whatever... People like you don't even think about what's actually necessary to develop and produce such a masterpiece like the new macbooks are. It's not only buying parts for 600$, soldering them together and then reselling them for 2000$. There is so much behind all that... especially if you like to distribute a product worldwide. Sure they do not have the latest hardware all the time. Which is a very bright decesion made by apple. You don't have to develop new pcbs all the time, which makes it easier making the one you have more reliable. Sure there are People out there who want to have state of the art hardware... but the vast majority does not need the fastest and the lastest stuff. They prefer a system that works, which is reliable, computers that are simply eye candy... the design is qualified to be called "Design"! And the quality is just perfect... just have a look how these products are made. Compare an iPhone with a Samsung/Nokia/SonyEricsson.. the difference is just so amazing. You can't compare the finish of these products with any other on the market. For such a large manufacturer like apple, it's just unique in the whole business. I agree with one of my previous speaker... you get what you pay for. And you pay much more for a product that has the quality, but at the same time it needs not that much more money to make it the better product. It is the whole enviroment that makes it that great product. And I have absolutely no Problem that Apple makes a lot of profit, because I am satisfied with the product! And they deserve to be sucessful. Sorry for my english as I'm no native english speaker.
  2. That's probably a possibility, but isn't it easier or more common to hack a system that is easier to crack? So Microsoft Windows has two properties that make it interessting for such attacks... it's the market leader and maybe easier to take over... I read once at "osx.realmacmark.de" that most people think, that the reason why OSX lags of Viri is because it's not so wide spread like windows. But therefore he gave an example. Apache Webserver is more often used than Microsoft ISS, but ISS suffers more flaws than Apache does. It's logical to me, to attack a system that is not secure, it sounds realistic to attack a system that is probably unsecure and wide spread.
  3. I wonder if such a statement is significant.... I mean, is it really possible to compare two different operating systems, two different technologies... as 10.4 and 10.5 run both on PPC and x86 processors. Is it not like having 2 operating systems at one time? I think, if there is a higher functional range... there is also a higher error rate. Correct me if I am wrong.
  4. My Vista To OSX Change Over

hrhr : ) yeah, welcome to the bright side of computing. i'm also a new user to the mac world... got my self a mb a few months ago... i just love it! meanwhile i'm owning a macbook, a mac mini and an imac yesterday my dad came home and told me to take the big white box out of his car's trunk. i was slightly smiling when finding out that it was a 24'' imac box ^^ so finally, he also got the mac virus ; ) but it's a good way of being "ill" : )
  5. Well, there always things copied or taken over if they're good. I think, if something works well... why don't pick up that idea and also use it? That's nothing bad so far. The thing which I personally don't like is, that there is something copied from someone else and then they claim to have developed it their self... or even more fancier, if they claim that the idea has been stolen and the other firm just was faster in releasing their final product. The whole story about the GUI things.... like exposè, beryl.. and the microsoft one. For me personally, beryl is to overloaded... sure it looks damn cool, but it is not really so functional if you ask me. I don't know what to say about the microsoft thing. Exposè combined with space is the most functional in my opinion. Well Apple also copies or takes over ideas... sure, but they integrate it so seamlessly. Is their something more sleek than frontrow? I just love the transition when pressing the button on my apple remote Sure they do copy things... maybe it is not always better. But "better" that's dependent on your person needs.
  6. OS X 10.4.9 Released

It's nice to have a Hackintosh, but it is even more nice to have a real Mac I had a Core2Duo Hacktosh, and now I've got a MB a Mini and an iMac :b ... it's not all about performance. It's also the design.. the noise that is barely present. I'd say, if you like your Hackintosh, buy a Macintosh. I'm done with HackMac... I'm now more into the real thing
  7. Vista more secure than OS X?

These confirm dialogs are just to stupid... something like that doesn't make a system more secure. Is the user really always able to distinguish if a harmfull or non harmfull programm is being installed?
  8. Post YOUR instructions....

Got a GeForce FX 5500 (128MB) AGP Card working.... I've used the Nvidia Accelerated Kext Package (got it from Demonoid). Copied these files into the extensions folder: GeForce.kext GeForce2MXGLDriver.bundle GeForce3GLDriver.bundle GeForceFXGLDriver.bundle GeForceGA.plugin GeForceVADriver.bundle IONDRVSupport.kext NVDANV30Hal.kext NVDAResman.kext and just corrected the DevID in the info.plist files of following: NVDAV30Hal.kext/Contents/Info.plist NVDAResman.kext/Contents/Info.plist GeForce.kext/Contents/Info.plist I used the latest titan.kext from http://omni.starchaser.org/titan which I suspect to be the same in the package @ demonoid. Terminal: chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/Titan.kext chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/Titan.kext then deleted Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext from /System/Library/ and repaired permissions using disk utility.... rebooted and looked fine except that it just frooze here: Screenshot so i booted my other installation of osx and deleted apgart.kext in the extension folder... after that it was working QE/CI Working :} My Hardware: AMD 64 3700+ @ 2,4Ghz (SSE2) Gigabyte K8N Mainboard (Nforce 3 Chipset) 1024MB Ram 200GB Maxtor HDD i used a Myzar patched 10.4.6 and upgraded with the JaS.10.4.8.AMD.SSE2.SemtheX.Beta9.pkg to 10.4.8 I hope my english is not too bad
  9. Does anybody of you guys know of such a Problem? I've got a perfectly running Asus Z92F Notebook @ MacOsX 10.4.7 JaS GMA 900 Graphics,Realtek Audio.. everything is just working perfect.. except one thing: If I close the TFT Panel, the Panel logically turns off, but when I open it again it just stays black. I thought Osx goes a sleep when closing it, but I can't wake it up anymore. The only way is to hold the powerbutton for a few seconds, so that the whole thing shuts down. Due to this it seams that I have damaged the system somehow.. well no reason to wonder about. Does anybody know that problem with the TFT just staying black after closing and openin again? Asus Z92F 1GB RAM GMA 900 Chipset unknown ( can't even find details on the asus.com page) Realtek compatible soundcard Pentium Core2Duo 2Ghz 80GB HDD

Sorry! Got it I'm just to stupid to do something as it is written ^^ Worked that way: Creating Backups. Installing 10.4.7 Intel update (downloaded from apple.com) applying the patch as discribed in the readme. About this mac is now working.. and so on

Sam, how did you apply that patch? I just got the SemJaza 10.4.7 decrypts and tried to apply them. Well... I did twice, and I twice screwed up my system. First I tried to patch the whole thing without installing the 10.4.7 Intel update, because I thought I won't be neccesary as I'm running the JaS 10.4.7 release.. so it's already 10.4.7.. but well, got kernel panic on reboot after that. Second time I downloaded the update from apple and installed it using parcifist. That time I got no kernel panic, but the user interface didn't load anymore.. That's the discripton I have for patching: 1. First one must make backups of certain files. Issue following commands. sudo mkdir /backup_1046 sudo cp /mach_kernel /backup_1046 sudo cp /System/Library/Frameworks/Kernel.framework/Versions/A/Resources/*.plist /backup_1046 sudo cp -R /System/Library/Extensions /backup_1046 sudo cp -R /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework /backup_1046 2. Run pacifist and open the MacOSXUpd10.4.7Intel.pkg file. Select everything and install it. 3. Run replace.sh so it replaces crucial encrypted system files. This command only works if you are in the working directory of the patch! sudo ./replace.sh 3. If you are on a AMD system you must patch files that the update installed. Run the following command! AMD ONLY sudo ./patcher 10.4.7_update_patches.txt 4. Replace kernel with old one. sudo mv /backup_1046/mach_kernel /mach_kernel 5. Replace Kernel Framework! sudo cp /backup_1046/*.plist /System/Library/Frameworks/Kernel.framework/Versions/A/Resources/ 6. Replace Extensions. sudo mv /System/Library/Extensions /System/Library/Extensions_1047 sudo cp -R /backup_1046/Extensions /System/Library 7. Replace OpenGL.framework sudo mv /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework_1047 sudo cp -R /backup_1046/OpenGL.framework /System/Library/Frameworks Reboot... I did it as discribed for AMD.. but I had no success yet. Am I doing something wrong? How did you apply the patch? Thanks!
  12. Well, I tried something today.. I don't know if somebody of you guys tried also before. I have two Chiligreen machines, running with 2,4Ghz AMD64, 1024MB RAM, Gigabyte Mobo with nForce2 Chipset. First I successfully installed the JaS 10.4.7 release on one of these Computers... It works just fine! Getting 74Points on Xbench. Just the Installer is making troubles.. so I have to use Pacifist. After doing that, I installed it on the second machine... it logically works the same. But then, which is the interessting part.. I took out the HDD from one of my AMD64 machines... and put it in my P4 2,8Ghz machine, with a MSI SiS 661 Chipset.... I was sure by doing that, it wouldn't work.. but it did! I put the HDD with my AMD64 OSX installation into the IntelP4 and it worked! Before I have not been able to install OSX on that machine.. That's just amazing. After that I tried the same thing on my Dell Dimension 3100 ... running a Celeron, and it also worked with the preinstalled HDD taken out of the AMD64 machine. Except being very slow, because it seems that only SSE2 is being used, it works very well. The P4 2,8Ghz with 512MB RAM is only giving 36 points in Xbench.. which I think is because of only SSE2 being used. The thing which confuses me is: I used a AMD patch for the installation... so I'm wondering why this installation is working on my Intel machines also?
  13. Cheers! Got some troubles with Parallels... when I'm starting the app or trie to run a virtual machine, I get that following message: Attention! The configuration file .parallels_common_options, which contains common Parallels Desktop options, was not found or is not accessible in the application's home directory /usr/lib/parallels and therefore it has been created locally. It cannot be placed in the application's home automatically since the current user does not have appropriate access permissions to write to the target directory. Please close the Parallels Desktop now and copy the file /Users/xxx/.parallels_common_options to the application's home directory manually. I did it as mentioned in this message... I copied the .parallels_common_options to the app home directory.. but. Also read and write access is set to this directory. Has anybody an idea? Thanks!
  14. Thanks! Well got Paralells runing... just one little detail: I get following messenge when starting paralells or try starting a virtual machine... Attention! I exactly did that... but I'm stil getting the same message
  15. Cheers! I got following problem: Well, as the OS X Application Installer freezes (just showing the rotating wheel icon) I tried to fix that problem using Pacifist. It works fine for all programms except VirtualPc7. Does anybody of you guys may know another way? Is there some kind of "alternative Installer" available? I've been searching for a while, but could't find any solution. Thanks!
