Or it's simply plug out the old card & put in the new one & install the drivers in safe mode? Thanks again!!

cyberdrive
Doesn´t look that good. You did a fresh reinstall? Try quartz extreme checker - i guess it will tell you, that graphics acceleration is not enabled. In that case it would effect your performance. How did you install that drivers? You upgraded to 10.6.5? Do you use custom kexts like nvinject, natit,...? If so - remove them.

cloverbay
After reading all the posts above, did anyone actually tried installing the GTX 460 1GB into an existing SL sys w/o any issues? W/O any complicated steps at all? I'm currently running 10.6.4 & is still skeptical about updating to 10.6.5 & also installing the new card w/o upsetting any apps performance. cyberdrive: You running in 64bit mode? daskog
Can someone/ Anyone Please report on how the performance are? Don't you forget that this is a community based on sharing and knowledge! And don't forget to test Adobe Premiere with CUDA Support for smooth editing without skipping frames =)
cyberdrive
@cloverbay: Yes, 64bit mode. As i do have reinstalled my system that often because of some issues with my old GTO 7900 and a bunch of kexts installed. So a fresh install was my choice. I guess it should have worked because the card was able to display at low res (1024x768) from the beginning right after installation of iAtkos. @daskog: Due to some sound issues with my ALC888 i don´t want to spend time on benchmarks yet. As soon as i got it back working playing my mp3´s i will continue on the benchmark-topic. So far i can only say: QE/CI enabled If you give me the links to the benchmark download it would be available a bit earlier Cyber
Generic George
My Palit 1 gb 460 was only being identified as an unknown nvida card with 64mb ram. Until I used the PciRoot=1 option. The option is case sensitive, so if you don't type it with the capital P and R it won't be recognized. WoW for me crashed with the Lightbeams option set to anything other than basic and locked up the entire machine. OpenGL Extensions Viewer stats were about 3100-3300 fps. cyberdrive
Thats right - i guess it depends on the mainboard you use. My Gigabyte needed the PciRoot=1 option too. After that it got detected right. Cyber edit: and don´t forget: GraphicsEnabler = Yes

mikedp5
I have a GTX 460 here lying around and I was wondering if what performance impact would I see if I use it to replace my current 8400gs? I used it a while ago and I experienced "Chipset model = unknown", so I gave up and used my 8400gs. However, I don't see any Quartz extreme entry in the system profiler under graphics so I don't know if QE/CI is enabled for my 8400gs. How would I know if I have QE/CI enabled for my 8400gs? I saw from a post (screenshot) above that it also doesn't have the QE entry in the system profiler. Help please.
