Nightmarez
**UPDATE** I was able to resolve this issue by booting into safe mode and then doing a "repair disk permissions". I'm guessing this issue occured as a result of installing Final Cut Studio. Thanks for your hard work in developing this project. I successfully installed GigabyteOSX last week on my EX58-UD5 and was running Snow Leopard. Everything was fine, I shut down my system on Friday, but when I tried booting it last night I got a blue screen. Luckily I have a Time Machine backup created and fully up-to-date. Unfortunately when I try booting from GigabyteOSX/Snow Leopard Retail, I enter the time machine restore utility and it hangs at "Trying to find Time Machine backup" and never displays and disks. I've also tried booting from the Kalyway boot disc and doing the Time Machine restore, but it hangs when I click "continue" on the initial screen. Has anyone else had the same issue? I'm considering trying booting from Leopard retail as well as doing a Snow Leopard fresh install, and then trying to restore my Time Machine backups inside of SL. Any advice is welcome, thanks! axed81
Is it possible to do the USB install method if you only have Windows? I don't have access to "Disk utility" or "Finder" that is described in the manual. maccompaq
If someone wants support for a video card, check out the forum here for drivers or use the google search.. I have spent several hours last week, reading in that same area you suggested, and there were no answers. I have also spent many hours reading other forums without success. I thought mrjanek's method was supposed to be effortless. I would have bought a 9800 GTX had I known that ati was going to be this dicey. Meatwagon
Hi there, everything working realtively well with my UD7A here but I am getting random crashes. Can't seem to trace it to any particular setting. I have tried turning off turbo memory and set the bios settings as suggested. Any other ideas? I installed using the Gigabyte USb method, haven't changed to kakewalk. Hardware is all new, temperatures are good. A little stuck! I get varying uptimes, heavy use seems to make it happen earlier, but varies from 10min to 2 days I get KP's as well, mostly when using Java. I have 2x2gb of ram, i took one out and didnt get one for about 5 days, figured that was the issue until i got one.. so now im running 2x2 again, just not in ddr. I notice my KP's are when im using Java in a internet browser. Is it possible to do the USB install method if you only have Windows? I don't have access to "Disk utility" or "Finder" that is described in the manual. NO sorry I have spent several hours last week, reading in that same area you suggested, and there were no answers. I have also spent many hours reading other forums without success. I thought mrjanek's method was supposed to be effortless. I would have bought a 9800 GTX had I known that ati was going to be this dicey. effortless with this motherboard, so everything on the MOBO should work. video and other add ons do not apply with this. Therefore you have to find a compatible one to use. leafhound
<br />So my only solution from Windows is to make a Kakewalk cd and burn my snow leopard image on a dvd (I have it on usb memory now)? You would probably need a dual layer DVD to burn SL as SL comes on a DL DVD from off the shelves. Fb2003
Hi I currently run osx 10.5.7, but want to upgrade to 10.6.x. I just found out about Kakewalk , and I have questions..maybe somebody can answer . Is Kakewalk ever going support 1 TB partitions? I have a GA-EX58-UD5, does the firewire port work ok? (in 10.5.7 it does not) I'm currently using an old 7900gt graphics card. With this 10.6 upgrade I also want to upgrade graphics card...what's in your opinion the best compatible (most powerfull) solution? With this 10.6 upgrade I also want to upgrade graphics card...what's in your opinion the best compatible (most powerfull) solution? 2 - Yes. Firewire is working in my GA-EX58-UD5 without any patch or hack. Just work. 3 - I would recommend the same graphic card that I chose: GeForce GTX 260. This card worked without any special task, just plug and play. Good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195248-kakewalk-minimal-effort-install-ep45-ex58-p55-g41/page/50/#findComment-1406456 Share on other sites

ZoZat
I’d like to know the proper way to install with Kakewalk. I’m new to this and have done extensive reading which has left me more confused do to the amount of conflicting info here on the site and others on the internet. This is my problem… I wish to dual boot with SL and W7. I have a separate hard drive for each. Which OS do I install first? I’ve tried various methods but usually end up with the BIOS freezing at DMI Pool. I’ve read that I should install W7 first. I’ve read that I should install SL first. I’ve read it doesn’t matter which OS is installed first, as long as the first OS install is unplugged before installing the 2nd OS. I’m confused. What do I believe? How to I proceed with dual boot on two hard drives with getting a DMI Pool freeze. Any help would be greatly appreciated. johnaldo
So close! I have the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R board... I used the GA-EX58-UD3R option and it was almost perfect. I could not get sound to work... but QE/CI and my PNY GeForce 9800GT 1GB worked OOTB. I read through the "aserebln method" and was able to make my own DSDT.aml for my board but I am not sure how to incorporate it. Any ideas/help/support appreciated. I was able to created the DSDT.aml using an Ubuntu LiveCD... I tried to attach it to this post for others to make use of but it was not permitted. Nicholas8681
I'm curious....with the known issues with the i3, i5, etc processors and Snow Leopard installations. mrjanek
So mrjanek, are you going to update kakewalk so that OSX can support 1TB drives? The support is already present. The bootloader (Chameleon) can't handle partitions >1TB though. I'm sure you'll find information about this in the forum. maccompaq
I can only boot in SAFE Mode. When I boot in Verbose, the screen stops at fakesmc key not found BEMB After a short delay, the screen shows colored mish mash. I know that the fakesmc kext is there to fool the hardware into thinking this is a Mac, but I am not sure what is needed to fix it. FACT fakesmc.kext is located in the Extensions folder inside the Extra folder. lonestar2006
Hi, do any of you know if the Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 works ok with the Kakewalk method? I've tried with Kakewalk on the P55A-UD3 and it just reboots when trying to load the Snow Leopard disc. I was able to get SL installed via tonymacx86-P55BootCD.iso , however I had difficulty getting my graphics card to work correctly. I was hoping kakewalk would be better, but no dice.
