  1. Asus 1018P Netbook

I'm also interested in this netbook. Anyone got success? Which method? Thanks
  2. Anyone run Pro Tools on a Hackintosh?

Hi XLR, Yes, only the UD4 in the EX58 series has 3 PCI slots. But it will be very hard to get one. It is a bit old, and no one looks to have one. Do a search. A friend that was searching that specific model for the very same reason than you ended to purchase a GA-EP45-UD3R. The only problem he had was some conflict with IQRs. He could solve the conflict woking with DSDTSE app.
  3. Hi XxL1Lm1kxX, I suggest you to keep out two of your graphic cards. I guess that it would be best to make the initial install with only one. But, I'm not an expert.
  4. Hi SnowFlakes, I have a GeForce GTX 260 and a BlackMagic Intensity Pro. The first one is a graphic card while the second is a video card. Don't know what is the purpose of your third monitor but just in case I told you. In my case, GTX 260 feds two Dell 23" monitors, while Intensity Pro feds a 42" LCD TV. First Dell monitor for ProTools Edit window, Second Dellmonitor for Plug Ins windows and 42" TV for video display. All via HDMI cables. Sound post for film and TV.
  5. Hi ollvin, I use a GA-EX58-UD5 + i7 (with Kakewalk method) as host for a ProTools LE 8.0.3 with an interphase Digidesign's 002R. Perfect. Never a crash. Solid. Responsive. This mobo has three FireWire 400 connections: 1 external and two internals. I moded the case to allow extend the internal FW socket to some place of the case (one in the front and one in the rear). Each one works perfectly well. One of those FW is connected to 002R interphase. In the others FW sockets I connect external hard disks. Also I have connected several times a MacBook Pro in target mode to any of those FW connections. Go a head.
  6. Pro Tools LE issues-

Hi UppyD, My hardware is close to the one you have. My mobo is GA-EX58-UD5. And my graphic card is a GeForce GXT 260. Also my ProTools LE is an 8.0.3cs2. OS is 10.6.2 (in another partition I'm testing 10.6.3). Had no problem with FW or iLok. I followed Kakewalk method http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=195248 And everything was quick and no problem at all. It is very stable. I recomend Kakewalk method. Give it a try. Your mobo is supported by this method. Good luck.
  7. Hi Gael, I would like you to know that in my case, I have no problem with DVI/HDMI connections after 10.6.3 update. May be, because my graphic card is a GeForce GTX 260. Good luck with your ATi 1950 Pro tests.
  8. (SOLVED) After 10.6.3 update no sound

Something was wrong installed. Some conflict reside in your operative system. To my taste it could be wrong kexts. My level is low to your problem. Hope someone here with higher level than mine could help you.
  9. I guess that I solved my problem. Probably I was rude as a butcher but now I have sound devices. This is what I did: I dragged to trash both VooDooHDA.kext (from Backup Extensions folder and from System > Library > Extensions). Also I dragged to trash AppleHDA.kext form System > Library > Extensions. Then I installed with Kext Helper AppleHDA_10.6.3.kext that I downloaded from kexts.com. When it was done I run Kext Utility and then repair permissions with Disk Utility. Reboot. When it opened again I had in System Preferences > Sound > Output: IntSpeakers LineOut LineOut DigitalOut Digidesign HW ( 002 ) <-- this is the interphase for my ProTools. While in System Preferences > Sound > Input: InternalMic LineIn DigitalIn Digidesign HW ( 002 ) I will test the whole system during next days but I guess I've done it. And very important! I have both DVI/HDMI displays connected and running healthy. Thanks to all of you. mrjanek, it would be wonderful if you could update your great Kakewalk method to a straight and easy 10.6.3 upgrade for the same long mobo list. Thank you again.
  10. (SOLVED) After 10.6.3 update no sound

Hi Rick, Your sound chip, your mobo and your micro are different than mine. I just solved my problem, but my solution could not work for you. I dragged to trash both VooDooHDA.kext (from Backup Extensions folder and from System > Library > Extensions). While in System Preferences > Sound > Input: InternalMic LineIn DigitalIn Digidesign HW ( 002 ) So I guess I've done. Also I have both DVI/HDMI connections from my GeForce GTX 260 live and in good conditions. So I guess I solved my problem. May be you have a conflict of kexts. Try to trash the old and suspected, install the fresh one for your sound chip and repair permissions. Good luck, Rick.
  11. Hi, I have done my Hackintosh thanks Kakewalk method. It was perfect. That installation ended in 10.6.2. Now, I wanted to upgrade to 10.6.3 and after that I have no sound. No sound devices/options to choose in System Preferences > Sound. I've done many things trying to get sound. Probably those attempts left old kexts that are responsible of the silence of my system. My mobo is a GA-EX58-UD5, so audio chip is ALC889a. My micro is i7 920. In Backup Extensions folder there is: AppleHDA.kext SleepEnabler.kext VoodooHDA.kext In Extra folder: com.apple.Boot.plist DSDT.aml In Extra > Extensions folder: fakesmc.kext HDAEnabler.kext IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext JMicronATA.kext LegacyHDA.kext And in System > Library > Extensions, between others: AppleHDA.kext HDAEnabler.kext VooDooHDA.kext Are any of those kext colliding between them? How can sound return back? Thanks in advance.
  12. I upgraded from 10.6.2 to 10.6.3. Solved a "Version mis-match between Kernel and CPU PM" PK thanks a Gael's suggestion. I have everything OK. But ... no sound. I downloaded AppleHDA_10.6.2.kext from kexts.com. There I read "This is a patched version of AppleHDA.kext, taken from Mac OS X 10.6.2. When 10.6.3 is released you probably need this kext, because the 10.6.3 version has the device id's hardcoded". Installed that AppleHDA_10.6.2.kext. Done permissions. Reboot. But no sound yet. As I'm on a EX58-UD5 that has an ALC889a sound chip I suppose it will not be applicable kexts for ALC888, right? I can't find any other kexts for my sound chip and 10.6.3 compatible. So, there is anybody that knows how to fix the lack of sound devices in System Extensions > Sound? Simply, there is no options to output or input sound. No Internal Speakers, no headphones, nada. Thanks in advance.
  13. Yes! Gael. Your were right! I searched in my disk any sleepenabler.kext. No one. I was not using it. I searched in Google and selected http://www.meklort.com/?p=167 From there I downloaded the sleepenabler.kext compatible with 10.6.3. Installed thanks Kext Helper. Then, OS upgrade. When it finished a window invited me to restart. Not yet. Run Kext Utility to repair permissions. When done, yes, restart. Almost perfect! The only problem remaining is the lack of sound. That is my battle now. Ah! Another important thing! My both 23" monitor connected via HDMI cables to GeForce GTX 260 work perfectly. I will continue checking the rest of the system but everything looks great. Tomorrow I will fight with the lack of sound. Thanks Gael and trwoolley.
  14. Thanks trwoolley for your answer. Now I erased my backup disk (where I was trying to test the OS update) and CCCloned my main disk into this partition. So, now I can show you my folders in 10.6.2 stage. I believe it looks equal than yours. Also, I'm trying to do the OS upgrade just Delta, as Software Upgrade wants. Not as Combo. In more than one hour it will finish to download.
  15. Hi trwoolley, I followed your steps in my test partition (not in my main one) but I can't reach the 6) item. I got a "Version mis-match between Kernel and CPU PM" Anybody know how can I solve this? Thanks in advance. Ah! My graphic card is a GTX 260. And I downloaded and installed the Combo version, not the Delta one.
