Now I had reverted to AsereBLN v1.1.9 bootloader, remove NVEnabler64.kext and GraphicEnabler=Yes to make my GTX285 detected correctly in SL 10.6.5. Looks like it doesn't need any thirdparty kext to make it work. Safe to say it is supported natively.

Wasted time to try other bootloaders and injector, all it need only to remove NVEnabler64.kext. Then other bootloader detects it correctly too. :)

The main problem is now, data corrupted when I use a microSD card reader to any USB port. This is a bit scary. Luckily I managed to recover lost data.

Yes.......GraphicsEnabler and EFI strings and Injector kexts are mutually explicity graphics "driver" methods.....

Yes......using USB card readers is often problematic........

Here is the KP screen. How does one go about getting the kernel log?

The problem kext may be AppleACPIPlatform.kext and/or its dependencies, IOACPIFamily and IOPCIFamily kexts.........you could try an earlier version of AppleACPIPlatform.kext e.g. 1.3.2 i.e. pre-1.3.5.......

Go to Applications >>> Utilities >>> Console........double-click on Console, then look in the following sections:

DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION >>> System Diagnostic Reports and User Diagnostic Reports

FILES >>> ~/Library/Logs >>> Crash Reporter and/or Diagnostic Reports

FILES >>> /Library/Logs >>> Crash Reporter and/or Diagnostic Reports

FILES >>> kernel.log

i no this is for intel CPUS but i was wondering if you knew what was wrong with my install on SATA drive when ever i try to install it just goes to 'still waiting for root device' an my bios does not contain AHCI settings at all, i was just wondering if you could help..

here is my southbridge

mainboard.jpg

also when using distro's i get an KP as follows

'Unable to load driver for....IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1441'

It all depends upon what SATA/ATA controller chipset "drivers" i.e. kexts the distro DVD loads into the kernel when it boots.......if the ID075E chipset is AHCI compliant then you should not need the AppleNForceATA kext.........

Sorry but all I can suggest is that you try an AMD compatible Install DVD distro such as

Kalyway 10.5.2

LawlessPPC-10.5.4-Phenom-AMD

iATKOS 4a AMD

Leo4Allv4.1 AMD

iPC 10.5.6

iDeneb V1.4 10.5.6

xXx Mac OSX 10.5.6 Final V2......etc.

and you may have a ACPI - APIC issue, so may need to choose an ACPI - APIC fix option in the Customize menu if available..........

@ RaMDay Nothing obviously jumps out from your log relating to your KP screenshot......except that in my kernel log I only find instances of "ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForService(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) timed out", whereas in your log I also see an instance of "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagementClient: ready"........

How are you dealing with AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext.....?

I'm using NullCPUPowerManagement.kext at the moment.

So am I........so no obvious reason for the difference in the kernel log.........

  • 2 weeks later...
I installed yesterday with no problems. My specific setup is my my signature, but both my nForce rig and MSi Wind updated without any issues.

Strangely, a Software autoupdate from 10.6.5 to 10.6.6 went fine, whereas for the first time ever I could not successfully update the system using the standalone Combo Update..........using the 10.6.6 Combo Update on a 10.6.5 system gave a successful install but on rebooting there was a mouse cursor and hence system freeze.... :)

The automatic Software Update uses the Delta Update that lets you update from Mac OS X from the previous to the next version (it is also downloadable as a standalone installer), e.g. from 10.6.5 to 10.6.6, whereas the Combo Update (downloadable standalone installer) lets you update from the first system version up to the version of the Combo Update installer, e.g. from Mac OS X 10.6, 10.6.1, 10.6.2, 10.6.3, 10.64, or 10.6.5 to 10.6.6........

There are no kext overwrites in going from 10.6.5 to 10.6.6 that may be an issue except AppleHDA.kext if you are using the 10.6.2 AppleHDA kext and have not renamed it to AppleHDA_10.6.2.kext but left it as AppleHDA.kext.......

UPDATE: On the 10.6.3 system, the 10.6.6 Combo update worked 100%..........the 10.6.5 and 10.6.4 systems were successively updated from the original 10.6.3 system, so perhaps "changes" have crept in that now stop the 10.6.6 Combo Update working with these 10.6.4 and 10.6.5 installs.......

I have been using Software autoupdate since 10.6.2 with any issues other than having to update Sleepenabler.kext each time.

I am assuming SleepEnabler.kext is on your Laptop as I was not aware of it working on nForce MOBOs since the last time I checked......

I have SleepEnabler.kext on my laptop and desktop.

Interesting............I will try it on my OC'd CPU and RAM MOBO on 10.6.2 through to 10.6.6........if you would like to post the version you are using here..........is it the xnu-sleep-enabler project kext......? ;)

I'm not sure of the version so I'll just upload it here. I'm not overclocking my desktop however.

Thanks for that.........you check via kextstat command in Terminal......look for:

sk.triaxis.kext.SleepEnabler (1.0.0) <7 4 3>

which is the xnu-sleep-enabler kext......

@ RaMDay

I tried the SleepEnabler.kext in /Extra/Extensions/ with pmVersion=21 in com.apple.Boot.plist, with and without OC'ing under 10.6.5...........unfortunately, even with this kernel-independent version of SleepEnabler.kext, sleep still does not function properly on my MOBO.......... :(

Just updating my story. I'm now running 10.6.6. I updated from the combo, and it took about 4 restarts to get things going. I'm not sure what happened between them. One of them was a kp. I just installed, fixed permissions, then shut down. Everything is working fine, except sleep, front headphones, and anything power related other than shutdown.

about sleep, I discovered my sleep wasn't working in windows either, then found this post

the solution to get sleep working in windows was to set some jumpers on the mobo from +5 to +5vsb. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it (I still can't sleep, but never could) but it might help get to a solution.

Thanks again VERDANT!

wait a second... do people have sleep working?!

{censored}, going to edit this again. also don't have esata working. Don't need it badly, but would like it. I'm looking over the recent threads from a couple pages back to figure this out, will report back.

Hey

I want to install Snow Leopard on my desktop, specs are below. I'm not sure what installation discs I should use etc.. I haven't exactly followed the OSx86 scene in quite sometime now.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad 8300 @ 2.5 GHz

Graphics: nVidia 9800 GT

Motherboard: XFX nForce 630i with GeForce 7100 Chipset

Memory: OCZ Single Channel 4096 Bytes of DDR2

I did install 10.5.something a few years ago, and had massive problems with startup and shutdown etc. It took over 2 weeks I believe of continuous support from this forum and some dude (forgot his name) to help me out.

I also do want QE/CI working (I'm sure that won't be a problem with the 9800 GT); I would also love to have all 4 cores working without overheating issues in the actual PC itself (I remember you had to delete some kexts to get that to work). Would love to have hibernate/standby to work, and shutdown/restart (compulsory). I often connect over 5 USB's to my computer at once, so USB drivers must work.

If this sounds too much let me know... I am currently using Windows 7, and recently have been running into problems such as icon cache loading, useless windows popping up every now and then... not to mention the fact it takes over 2 minutes for Windows to complete boot (I dont understand what it has to find first). I own a 15" Macbook Pro Core i7, so if I need to use anything from that (be it not harming drivers/kext/cpu/the body itself in anyway).

Would EXTREMELY appreciate help for anyone here!
