Not that I use Windows, but I've heard that Microsoft thinks the GMA 900/950s aren't powerful enough for Vista's new graphics effects and such. bigboss Posted April 6, 2006 Share Posted April 6, 2006 ive got a geforce 6800 gt and im still not happy with the performance of aero glass @ 1280x1024 on my rig on build 5308.. i guess when dx 10 compliant cards come out and nvidia and ati code somewhat better drivers, we'll see an improvement in terms of graphics card performance.. and the 915 chipset will not support aero glass (atleast with the integrated gma 900).. the 945 or above (with a 950 series gma) will work with aero glass for sure.. im sure that when we get close to rc, they will probably find some way to support older dx8 cards and the gma 950's less powerful cousin, the 900 series. Not that it prevent me from doing any productivity, but the sluggishness is surely annoying. Why can't we have a lightweight eye-candy such as OSX? Darth Circuit Posted April 12, 2006 Share Posted April 12, 2006 Interesting. the Glass effects have never performed slowly on my box. i have a nvidia fx 5200 and a intel PIII 800Mhz. Slow box, but it runs vista and glass effects better than xp.... if microsoft dropped all legacy support and became like apple, nobody on earth would be able to use a computer. i may be exaggerating, but id say nearly 75% of microsoft's sales of windows off the shelf are to people upgrading from 95, 98, or me. Besides, just to make you happy, microsoft removes support for legacy hardware with each build of windows that is released. For example: When i was running 2000, i could use my Buslogic scsi card. when xp came out, i had to upgrade to an Adaptec card. Now with the betas of vista, i cant even use my adaptec card. it is only about 4 years old! this is only one example. many people have to upgrade every build. i havent been able to test many recent builds, because my mobo hasnt been supported since beta 1. even so, i have tweaked around enough to get some of the latest builds working. like i said earlier though, if ms cuts legacy support, they will lose major profits. but thats just my i guess ill stop BSin now though.
