SpiffyChee
I'm on the search for a laptop that I can hackintosh to be fully working. 12" or 13" would be my favorite, but all sizes welcome. So I'm asking you all. Does your laptop work 100% in osx Do you know of one that does, and is a model you can find right now? i know there are topics about this, but they are mostly old and I really need some help. AlpineRaven
I would be interested to hear other replies here - as my wife is planning to buy a laptop thru work and I'm planning to convert to apple, its Compaq but dunno the model - i've installed OSX on it once already and it does work. MaaseyRacer
Price range would be help full. Also 13 inch laptops start around 900. At that point you might as well buy a macbook. Ruddy
Cool looks like a nice hackintosh but the graphics is where it looks bottlenecked- only 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS on the vostro 1310 and no hdmi out Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/134639-fully-working-laptops/#findComment-961436 Share on other sites
infectedco
I have an e1405 with 14 inch screen. Works well but only able to use 10.5.1 through iatkos. everything seems to work pretty much after installing with just efi and brodcom patch. Both cores working also. Just use the apple hda patch for sound and you are good to go. Ruddy
Has anyone found any better deals on a computer with similar specs? Since the lan port isn't reported working its not technically a 'fully working laptop' but I primarily use wifi which does work on this model. Dell XPS M1530 Laptop $949 before taxes and s/h Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 ghz 15.4" widescreen DVD/CD+/-RW 3GB Ram 250GB 5400rpm sata hd 128MB nVidia GeForce 8400M GS Wifi with dell 1395 mini card which works Would the geforce 8400m gs be faster then the intel integrated graphics coming standard on most laptops? Also I would be considering paying the extra 100 for the nvidia geforce 8600m gt if anyone has noticed significant improvements in performance. What do you guys think? Feel free to post suggestions, comments, or a different laptop that has higher quality components, same price range or cheaper. Note: I also found some 20 and 30 percent of coupons for the dell xps which is good for computers over $1699, so in theory you could add on about $700 worth of addons and only pay around 300 more. It's nice but a little out of my price range as im looking to stay closer to $1000 before taxes. Well anyhow, heres the link: http://www.xpbargains.com/index.php/send_deal/97847 -Ruddy Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/134639-fully-working-laptops/#findComment-968044 Share on other sites

Ruddy
Yes thank you for your Contribution Paranoid Marvin, you are indeed correct. The Powerbook G4 does count as a fully working laptop, thank you for pointing that out, nice job, kudos. Just to clarify in case any else is contributing, this is a hackintosh laptop we are referring to. Thanks, -Ruddy Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/134639-fully-working-laptops/#findComment-968290 Share on other sites
coasterjob
Any luck with the MSI laptops, 15.4" etc? It seems the Wind is a great platform to hack, so what about their other laptops? JaE-V
Go with an xps M1210 with the nvidia 7400 Or the M1330's work extremely well! I've installed Leo on a few of these. You'll just have to change the wireless card to the 1390 or 1490. moderndrummer
I would suggest Toshiba U300-154. 13.3" display. What DOESN'T work is: wireless card (works but needs a bit of a workaround - not very usable) no sleep. Does Restart instead of shutdown but only when on power source. On battery it shuts down beautifully No mirror mode on external display, working though with 2 displays next to each other. It costed me 520 euros. Not bad hey? mschilling
Do any of these lap hacks have working sleep? Seems to be difficult to find, and one feature which is so nice to have working on a laptop. That's one feature I envy on my wife's old ibook G4. She can slam it shut, without worry and throw it in a backpack. It never has to be rebooted, which takes forever, and lasts long using the battery while asleep. bobbobson
I'm looking at the vostro 1510, they don't sell the 1500 anymore with an upgrade to make the 15.4inch screen useable [1920x1200] thats still only $650 with the same 2.4ghz CPU as in the high end Macbook it makes it less then $900. The video is not quite as good [same as the base model macbook, or upgrade to an 8400m and still cheaper then a MacBook] but for what most people would use it for its fine. If it's similar to the 1500 that someone mentioned here I don't see the issue in buying one ofcourse I'm in Australia so that might be the difference Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/134639-fully-working-laptops/#findComment-969695 Share on other sites

Macarelo
Have you seen the MSI GX700(9S7-171948-225)? Specs are similar to the Mac Book Pro 17", and is 700dlls. I´m thinking of buying one, but I need to know if its going to have compatibility issues. Tell me what you think. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16834152082 (MSI´s site doesnt list this particular model, they list one similar but with less CPU, the 9S7-171948-227 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/134639-fully-working-laptops/#findComment-972482 Share on other sites

moderndrummer
Mine doesn't sleep. It wakes from sleep immediately. Which is bad at first glance, yet it activates the fans when it wakes up so its a good thing to use when in ned to cool it. I have also managed Ideneb 10.5.4 on my asus eee 1000h. Sleep works OTB there. Yet... Sound doesn't. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/134639-fully-working-laptops/#findComment-992147 Share on other sites
