Maxintosh
My first computer was an Atari 400 with a cassette drive. I remember those. I still have a Commodore 64 brand new in the box Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/116994-the-stupid-ways-people-do-things/page/2/#findComment-829367 Share on other sites
(MoC)
My first computer was an Atari 400 with a cassette drive. I have found memories of hammering out basic code on that membrane keyboard. I believe it had all of 16k of ram. My dad considered it an expensive toy with little purpose. I remember telling my dad that one day every home will have computers to manage all of our affairs and that it was the future. He dismissed that notion. My first computer, was a Macintosh Color Classic, on which I remember I used to play with the old SimpleText program and make it speak then get excited. Then right after that I had an IBM laptop, a Pentium 1 with DOS, 8 MB RAM, and a 2 GB HDD. I used to play emulators, GTA, and RPGs. Fun, and I also loved to do basic with that thing. I still have it today, but now I upgraded it, 64 MB RAM and 20 GB HDD. Filled with ROMs, MS BOB, and my very own BASIC code. Oh the memories. Thanks for giving me the nostalgic moment, vaporATX. Going to boot that baby up and have some fun! vaporATX
My first Apple was a IIe rev.B with a bad power supply. I rebuilt the supply and had my first Apple. I sold it shortly after and got an Atari 800 because the games were better. My next machine was a Amiga 500 followed shortly after by 2000. I remember laughing at Macs... The Amiga and AmigaOS just laid waste to the Macs in performance and features and was half the price. My first PC was a 386DX/25. I had it for a few months... just long enough to master it so I could start making lots of money off the poor fools who used PCs. I couldn't stand that thing and remember laughing at how bad DOS and Windows were. My first mac was a Powermac 6200. I wish I still had an Amiga... loved my Amigas. FrankOS_Scripting
In Win 98, DOS was an important part of the OS. These commands you gonna miss it because it's not xcopy but move. And in my IT diploma, I followed a course of "Old OS'es" like DOS, Win 98. And the first part was on DOS. Never on my whole life I learn DOS and the commands (that include batchfile). At the end, I finished the course with 92%. My batchfile was made on base of REM, xcopy, dir, if. The loops was awesome!! Black screen with only this C:\ and the underscore flashing, that's not very excited loll Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/116994-the-stupid-ways-people-do-things/page/2/#findComment-829856 Share on other sites
djet
The most frustrating thing for me is when people say, "Well me and technology don't go together well." You should probably change that, shouldn't ya? First comp I remember was an Apple II. aylamrin
When Moms do mistakes that acceptable. Few things that my mom does... 1. I can never make her understand that "www." is never part of the email address. It might come in a web address. (To her everything its all the same anyway) 2. After more than 5 years of training, she finally manages to remember the key layout. What a relief. She still tries to type with only one finger though (especially when I am not around) 3. I was planning to gift her my MacBook Pro 15 (she thinks its too heavy for a laptop), but she simply can't manage the trackpad. She does not understand the difference between single click, two finger click, two finger scroll. (My MBP does snot have multi touch though.) When the click does not work as expected she simply exerts more pressure on the feeble thing. But all that is still OK... Now consider this. In my previous company I had a colleague, a little junior to me, now that fellow is responsible for maintenence work on a HP-UX server. What bothered me most is that every time he would do that, he would open the MS-Word doc and copy+paste the command in to the putty window. And that includes cd, ls, pwd as well. Even after one full year of doing this rigmarole he never learnt what is "." or "..", or how "grep" can be used to do simple tasks or how commands can be grouped using the ";". Utterly hopeless, is what I felt...! And the worst part is he does not want to learn too!... What a retard!... Kinda reminds me of the guys from my office that come at least once a year with the same retarded questions. How do I create a PDF file? How can edit the PDF file I created last year? Can I close the lid on my laptop? How do I tell the camera to copy the pics onto my computer? Where are the pics the camera automatically copied onto my computer? etc... It makes life a pain.
