Sorry to be super dense...but I just don't want to blow away my good config.

I have 10.5.1 running on an Asus P5K Wifi, EFI V8 GUID partition, Vanilla kernel...are you saying I can manually download the 10.5.4 update file from Apple's website, run the update, and when it reboots I'll be in 10.5.4...bo problems or mod'ing required?

Thanks!

You are all running C2D so none of these "it worked for me" comments are any use for people with P4, PD and AMD. In fact, the posts here could mislead newbies with these early CPUs into thinking it is a straightforward software upgrade when it is not. Please be more descriptive to help others.

Unfortunately your right. My perfect Leo4All install on my P4 system was working great. Kept seeing all these posts about how software update worked for them so after some hesitation I tried it and it killed my Hackintosh. I backups so no big deal, but I strongly urge anyone with an older CPU to NOT upgrade until we get the facts on a simple and safe upgrade path.

my OSx86 : Kalyway 10.5.2 updated with JaS 10.5.3 Combo Update

.2 and .3 seem to have broke set ups,..so no, jumping from .1 to .4 will prob break your setup since it has .2 and .3 !

So i have 10.5.2 now, just got it installed since a couple of days finally and all set up now. I didnt update to .3 because i heard some couldnt boot their install so i just waited.

But now it says Combined. This means it installs .3 and .4 update right? Will this work from .2?

Unless you are running a Core 2 based CPU (Pentium Dual Core Exxx, Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad, Celeron D4xx, Celeron Dual Core) YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO USE SOFTWARE UPDATE TO UPDATE YOUR SYSTEM!!

(Don't take offense at this, I am just highlighting it for users in your situation:))

OK...Update went well, but I still can't solve the problem of "Unknown" CPU and I also don't want to have my Motherboard as the identifier...I'd prefer to have MacPro.

I've tried about 15 different SMBIOS posts...can anyone help me get the right info?

I have an E8400 OC'd to 3.62.

Thanks in advance...

Hello. I am using an Asus A8Jr (Core 2 Duo T5600, 2GB RAM, 120GB SATA, ATI Mobility Radeon X2300) and I tried upgrading to 10.5.4 using Software Update (Before that, I changed the kernel to Vanilla 9.2.0 from ToH 9.2.0) but it hung at 18% copying files. It cannot reboot after I forced shutdown. I reinstalled Leo4All V3 (Which I am using) and did all the same thing mentioned above and again hung at 18% and reinstalled again. Next, I changed the kernel to Vanilla 9.2.0 from ToH 9.2.0 again and tried Kalyway's 10.5.3 ComboUpdate with the patch thingy (which said in the readme that it is necessary) and selected the Vanilla 9.3.0 kernel. Restarted and BSD error. Reinstalled. Changed the kernel to Vanilla 9.2.0 again. Ran the update. Did patch but did not select any kernel to install, BSD at bootup. Reinstalled. I would like to ask if I actually needed to change my kernel to Vanilla 9.2.0 before doing Kalyway's ComboUpdate or can I just leave it with ToH 9.2.0 and the update would work? I'm going to give up soon. Can anyone tell me if it is necessary for me to change my kernel from the original one during the Leo4All V3 install and can anyone provide a very detailed step-by-step upgrade guide to 10.5.4 and instruct if we needed to do anything if we had a some kernel (e.g. Vanilla-OK, ToH-No) and provide some kind of tutorial. Anyway, is it necessary to install the patch after the ComboUpdate from Kalyway??

try AppleSMBIOS-27 rev.6 by mac.nub

or try eddie11c's method

Howto fix CPU name which is identified as 'unknown' on "About This Mac"

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=98775

Browse to /System/Library/CoreServices/Resources/

and open AppleSystemInfo.strings and scroll down to unknown, as most cpu's that are reported as such.

Just change the text where you currently see your cpu info back to "unkown" or whatever you want.

you can install 9.2.0 ToH Kernel+System.kext after update. worked fine on my Kalyway 10.5.2 updated to 10.5.3-10.5.4.

currently I'm using 9.4.0 Modbin Kernel+System.kext , also works fine.

use Mac OSx86 Tools Utility by ~pcwiz to install.

Anyway, is it necessary to install the patch after the ComboUpdate from Kalyway??
I dont know, because when I tested, I always run the patch.

my Kalyway 10.5.2 more better with JaS 10.5.3 Combo Update.

GFX CI & QE still supported without install any patch/driver after update.

Everything worked great for me as well, aside from the "About This Mac" issue shown below.

System: Kalyway 10.5.1 install, Kalyway 10.5.2 IntelCombo + Kalyway Vanilla 10.5.2 Kernel, Kalyway 10.5.3 Combo update

Machine: Dual Xeon E5430 (2x 2.66Ghz harpertown xeons), Intel 5400 chipset (Supermicro X7DWA-N), 8GB Ram, EVGA NVidia 9800GTX 'superclocked', Intel pro/100 Nic (full details in sig)

Seems to be seeing some default strings, instead of using some automatic installer (eddie11c's method) or hand-entering data (custom AppleSMBIOS method) anyone have any ideas? This has worked fine on every other OSX version since 10.4.8.
