pabloX
mac-nipulate, i couldnt understand what you were saying the first time as it made absolutely no sense. But assuming you want to know about the status of nVidia drivers for OSX, they won't ever be released until Apple releases a computer with an nVidia card inside. Or at least until they release a Geforce series .kext which actually has driver information. enb14
Guys remember that ATI guys are having problems too, then can't change resolutions so even if mac releases nvidia drivers somebody has to hack it. Protoss
Yea we should have drivers for nVidia by the time the Intel Mac towers (dunno what they are going to call them) since they will allow the use of other graphics card. I don't think they'd lock out all non-ATI cards on the towers. I don't think they'd lock out all non-ATI cards on the towers. They don't have to. The new Towers will have EFI just like the MBP and Mini, so you won't be able to put off-the-shelf graphic cards in them. So, whatever drivers come out will just be for whatever cards come with the custom firmware. I personally think they'll come with ATi so we'll still not have nvidia drivers. phor2zero
Macvidia or not: Check the bottom of this site http://developer.apple.com/labs/index.html Interesting Hasan... At first I thought these might be available in PowerPC configurations, but from the list of "over 250" machine configurations available for testing, none of them include the FX4500 or the 7800GT. Perhaps the list is not up to date, or maybe Apple is doing their own compatibility testing in the ADC lab. The problem I see with that, is that I doubt Apple would have a prototype Intel machine in the ADC labs in which they could install a 7800GT (I don't think it's physically possible to install one in an iMac) I'm sure any such testing would be done behind closed doors. This only leaves the possibility that they have 7800 GT's installed in PowerPC Macs available for ADC members, and the list of configurations is not up to date. Since the Nvidia kexts in 10.4.4 include a skeleton intel driver architecture, I'm quite positive that Apple will release finished drivers for Nvidia cards at some point. Cyrana: Since the 10.4.x intel releases still include ATI drivers "inside" the OS, they're obviously not using EFI to it's full potential. Apparantly the ATI cards they've installed in the new machines are not EFI cards, or they wouldn't be using the OS kext's. Perhaps if ATI or Nvidia can gear it up and produce EFI compatible cards this year, then maybe Apple will only release EFI drivers for them. But that leaves me wondering WHY did they start developing intel kext's (since the intel code in the nvidia kexts is nearly 90% complete, it's just NVResman.kext that is missing) if they're not going to utilize them at all? EFI drivers run in EFI hardware (like running a driver in the BIOS) and are capable of updating themselves online without the OS even being aware of it. The OS will send it's OpenGL calls directly to EFI rather than to an installed driver (kext). I do admit however, that it is a concern. If the Intel "power" macs are released with only EFI drivers, then we're all poop-outa-luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11073-macvidia-dead-or-what/#findComment-71398 Share on other sites
