HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini with RX560 dGPU
deeveedee replied to deeveedee's topic in Installation Guides
@CloverLeaf So far, I have created this thread and reviewed a few other threads for the RX560. I haven't yet created the new EFI for testing. I hope to be able to look again later next week. -
@chris1111 Thanks. That is similar to @droples suggestion here. I haven't tried it, but I'm sure it would work. I'm going to test again when OC 1.0.0 is officially released. Thanks again.

@chris1111 Thanks . I have been setting FixupAppleEfiImages since here, but it didn't work for me and I still needed to use OC 0.9.6 legacy boot. I'll try again after OC 1.0.0 is released. EDIT: I have always required HfsPlusLegacy.efi on my HackBookPro6,2 since I created the Open Core solution for it. Since OC 0.9.7, I have assumed that I'm doing something wrong, but never took the time to debug and just reverted to OC 0.9.6 legacy boot.

This thread extends the EliteDesk 800 G4/G5 Mini thread here which provides a macOS solution using the UHD630 iGPU. This thread provides a macOS solution for the HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini with the AMD Radeon RX560x dGPU. The specifications for the PC that I am using for this solution are as follows: HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini i5-8500T CPU AMD Radeon RX560x 4GB dGPU 32GB DDR4 (2 x 16GB) 500GB WD Black SN750 M.2 NVMe SSD 150W Power Adapter

I haven't worked with AMD graphics since my hack here. For that old hack, I needed an ACPI patch for GFX0. I prefer to extract native ACPI and inspect. It doesn't take long and helps me to understand what I'm patching. EDIT: The first ACPI table that I looked at, DMAR, is different for the RX560-equipped EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini. DMAR includes an additional reserved memory region that is not present in the DMAR table for rigs without RX560. Since I started including a modified DMAR table in my EFI, I will be revising DMAR for my RX560-equipped EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini. I haven't looked further at the newly extracted ACPI, but this is why reviewing the extracted ACPI is my first step in examining a new PC for hacking. Not because this DMAR table will be critical, but because examining ACPI is a simple step that eliminates guessing.

I finally got a chance to play with my "new" EliteDesk G4 Mini with AMD RX560. It is currently running Windows 11 Pro just to make sure everything is working properly. My strategy for building an Open Core EFI will be to extract ACPI with the AMD RX560 installed / enabled, inspect the ACPI to determine necessary patches (specifically, graphics patches) and then to implement the new Open Core EFI. I don't have much time to work on this, so my progress on this will be slow.

@hiphopboy In addition to using @jrhende 's kext, did you change the LayoutID? If this requires further debugging, please start a new thread for your HP EliteDesk 800 SFF since this audio solution does not apply to the 800 Mini documented in this thread. Thank you.

HP Elitedesk 800 G5 Mini under desk-mount
deeveedee replied to HerrOtttesen's topic in New Users Lounge
@HerrOtttesen I like your under-desk mount. Nice! @HerrOtttesen I received your PM about heat issues with i9-9900. I don't have any problems with heat and I also have an i9-9900 CPU, but as I mentioned in my PM response, heat issues can be caused by high ambient room temp, incorrect application of CPU thermal paste, air-flow obstruction, addition of a second M.2 NVMe SSD and also SATA SSD (especially if you don't have a SATA caddy fan). Do you experience the heat issues / CPU fan constantly running without your under-desk mount? I ask, because much of the EliteDesk Mini's cooling for 65W models is via the vented cover. With the upside-down mounting of your EliteDesk Mini (your only choice so as not to block the cover venting holes), the rising heat is trapped in the unit. Do you think it is possible that your under-desk design is thwarting convection cooling? -
I bought it from someone local, but you can find them cheap on Ebay. I've seen them for as low as $100 USD on Ebay (try searching for 'HP Mini EliteDesk 800 G4 65W 8th Gen i5-8500T' and inspect the listings). Sometimes sellers don't include the AMD graphics in the title/text (maybe because they don't even know what they're selling).

I am hopeful that the OC OpenDuet issues that I've experienced since OC 0.9.7 are resolved in the next release of OC. The fix "Fixed problem loading non-firmware runtime drivers" seems promising.
