Greetings,

Included as an attatchment in this topic is my Post-Install-Patch v1.0.3 which will allow you to fix

the Windows File Sharing (SMB/CIFS) and Apple File Sharing (APF/Firewall) bug in the latest

JaS 10.4.7 Install DVD.

To fix your system simply download attatched DMG, Mount, and launch MPIP103. This patch

will automatically fix your system, update your prebindings and exit when completed, however I would recommend restarting your system.

If you are intersted in the shell code included in the patch please see previous topic in this forum, the shell code is also included in the ReadMe file inside the DMG.

PS I would greatly appreciate if this could be made a sticky.

The forum software appends a ".zip" to the download. The file is not zipped, it is a .dmg.

Simply Rename and Remove the ".zip" from the file name. Leave the ".dmg"

MPIP103_10.4.7.SMB.CIFS.APF.FIX.dmg

this doesn`t work for me

APF is working but smb does not work

it just says the original server could not be found and the alias is wrong.

so any hints or news?

Greetings,

Normally that error is related to shares or persmissions, or selecting the wrong workgroup that the computer is in (For ex Win2003 shows my server in 3 workgroups, on the domain one works) To test and see if your SMB is broken or not use the Go-> Connect to Server and smb://x.x.x.x/sharename if the 'Connect' button does ANYTHING then your SMB subsystem is not broken and the problem is something else. If you SMB system is broke the connect button will give you nothing, it wil ljust depress and thats it :poster_oops:

Its not working for me either, when I click connect, it begins to connect but immediately fails...see screenshot for errors, the part thats weird is the top window...whats with the afp://smb??

Greetings,

Well the connect button itself is yeilding a result which means the smb system is working. What exactly are you typing in the Connect To dialogue box? Have you attempted connecting to the machine from browsing the Network viewer in Finder? Is this the latest 10.4.7 Install DVD by JaS?

When I try to connect through finder I get:

The alias "My Server here" could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found.

doing a "connect to"

also gives a error message like "error 51" or similar

using Terminal with sambaclient (or smbclient?) works

mount_smbfs also doesn`t work for me :D

afp is working fine but that`s not what I want

@modbin

The first thing I would attempt testing would be to enable Windows File and Print Sharing in Sharing Preferences then attempt to browse to yourself through the Finder Network Browser. When you were attempting to connect did it prompt you for the Network Username/Password for the share. Was it in the proper workgroup folder? Is it a Domain? I will take a peek on my end, but as far as I know the SMB bug should not even be present on AMD installes if you picked the AMD combo update during installation.

Windows File and Print Sharing in Sharing Preferences is enabled

did it prompt you for the Network Username/Password for the share? yes

Was it in the proper workgroup folder? yes

yes checked the amd combo update.

I`m in vmware and want to connect to a shared folder on my ntfs partition in server 2003.

it works in 10.4.5, installed services for mac and created a shared folder for mac

I can connect via terminal but not in finder network browser

I try to make a 10.4.7 live/install dvd but that network thing is driving me nuts. :P

Greetings,

If you are presented with the username/password prompt SMB is operating correctly. I occasionally get the same error as you, it is related to permissions for the Server 03 box (If you have XP you wouldn't see this). Make sure in the Username/Password box you are entering a valid username/password combination from Server 2003, it requires local user privilages to see the shares, and you most likely will not be able to browse them without modifying your server config. Attempt to do a direct connection to a share using Connect to Server.

ex smb://192.168.0.1/storage

If you enter a valid username and password (and make sure the realm area in the username/password box matches either the server name or the workgroup name)

Let me know how it works.

Hi {censored}-X I tried the scenario of enabling windows file sharing on the osx box, then trying to make a connection to itself.

It failed with the same error. However, connecting to the osx box from my xp box worked fine.

I use guest (as I have done in the past) to connect to the xp share from the osx box...

I'm Stumped...

Greetings,

How did you attempt to connect to yourself? Did you Connect to Server smb://127.0.0.1/shortusername ?

And are you using AMD or Intel? So you are getting the username and password box? If so, do not use a specific user account if it is a standard XP box, simply hit OK. You may run into problems reverse authenticating with the Guest Account. When did you start having this problem? And was this off the 10.4.7 Install DVD or did you upgrade from .6?

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say thanks to both JaS and {censored}-X for this patch which works great on a 1.4.6 System, terrific job, and thanks again, because now i can say that i have a perfect Hackintosh system!

Greetings,

Thanks, it was the only thing originally holding me back as well

I actually tried connecting via the real IP, but I can try the loopback when I get home.

Also, I never tried just clicking ok without specifying any username when connecting to the xp share, but I'll try that too when I get home. I'll try that when connecting to itself also.

I can't specify (for various reasons) what version I'm running, but suffice to say, its about as close to a real osx installation as you can get

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for you suggestions!

ex smb://192.168.0.1/storage

I did that already it gives me the user/pass prompt and error message -50

it must be something within osx 10.4.7 `cause in 10.4.5 it is working so my server 2003 config is ok.

anyway I post some screenshots to make it clearer what works and what doesn`t.

hope you can help :(
