NVIDIA RELEASES 19.5.8f03 for 285 but should also bring performance from 10.6.3 back to 10.6.4
Works also on lower cards like 8800GT.

Besides pacifist, there are two ways to modify the installer to work without checking if you have a 285 (the drivers are universal). I used the second way to install on my GTS 250.

To remove platform dependency from the package:
1. Install XCode if you haven't yet(from Mac OS X Install disc).
2. Run /Developer/Applications/Utilities/PackageMaker.app
3. Drag the package with drivers on the package maker dock icon.
4. Remove the system check procedure from requirements:(see attachment img)
5. Build&Run
This works on Mac OS Install dvd's in a similar way as well(if you have a non-retail restore dvd). The package name would be OSInstall.mpkg in /System/Installation/Packages/ on the dvd.

19.5.8f03 can be installed on any system if you edit setup checking algorithm. Simply locate "distribution.dist" inside driver package, then delete part of program with "unsupported_title" and "unsupported_message" strings, save and install.

extract with Pacifist , so you dont need to change smbios.plist.
just copy the kexts to S/E/E and run pfix ( clear cache / set permission) and reboot

NVIDIA Driver Installer 19.5.8f03 with hardware check removed:

http://filebeam.com/...c28a5a3236b7a81
was going to upload this for people a while ago but spaced it.
Alternatively you can (and what I did originally) view contents of the original package and install each package (theres 3 of them) individually since the hardware check is only on the parent installer but you will need to repair permissions after.

Be carefull !
My 8800GTX lost (before working) GPU powermanagement. GPU now runs always at max speed.
Went back to 10.6.4 orig. and AGPM works again.

Do you run 64 bit kernel with these drivers? Have you previously had KP in 64 bit mode using earlier drivers?

You can use NVCLOCK info tool (together with an .kext for kernel mem access)
run as superuser sudo nvclock -i and you get the GPU/SHADER/VRAM Mht in which the card is running (at time you run nvclock).

In smbios.plist it needs to be MacPro3,1 or MacPro4,1 not 3.1 or 4.1

Yea that's how I installed them, hoping for an HDMI fix, but it did nothing
but kill Adobe Flash on Firefox and Chrome, stuff like YouTube would just
show a black screen, oddly Safari still played them, I restored the old KEXTs
from a backup, and Adobe Flash worked again

You see that it runs at high(700) MHz, not in 2D / idle mode 300 MHz gpu).
