Ayla
Diabolik Your setup is "rock solid" you say, no crashes etc. Could you please tell me the exact model number of the RAM you use? Then I will buy the same RAM for my next build with this motherboard. Thanks Martin
General_Cartman
I haven't been able to get sleep or shutdown working on this board either. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the orange icon issue is something you'll experience with any hackintosh. Just give your hard drives custom icons or the default internal icons and they'll always stay that way, unless you erase or repartition them. I installed an orange icon fix when I first installed OS X on mine, but my transfer speeds became horrible. Sleep and Shutdown don't work when you install an external video card, and/or a PCI card in PCI slot 2 Take it out and use the iGPU and you will get sleep and shutdown. (has hda enabler and gfx injection in dsdt) voodoo kernel i also run a bootloader that runs -f always w/o being set in the boot.plist as for bios settings, i have my iGPU oc set and i have legacy usb disabled, the rest is basically default. that is it. like i said a long time ago, its not that hard to get this board running perfectly. -D-
FrodoKenny
FrodoKenny, I used Uinstaller to install the kexts in my system with the new DSDT and didn't pay proper attention. Later I saw I failed to remove NVkush. Maybe that did it. I was careless in my updating and in trying to get back to a stable system, which made things worse. If you want to add a warning, maybe something like: Pay attention and read. Don't be like me(Eastwind). Should be ok then FrodoKenny - What happened to your great post about DSDT? Also having trouble with sleep and proper shutdown on this end... Can you let us know what hardware you are using...keyboard, mouse, SATA drives? What BIOS, Kexts? Vanilla, retail, installed from real mac or hack? All my installs, and I mean many, have resulted in Orange HD Icons, using -f in the plist to boot and lack of sleep (both the computer and me) and shutdown that results in the computer shutting down but the fans keep running. Post is still there... #355... I have a relatively plain system: Asus P5N7A-VM mainboard, Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200, Kingston ValueRam Dual Channel 2 GB PC6400, 800 MHz 5 Kit Of 2, SATA hd and one PCI slot occupied with a supported Broadcom based WLAN card. This is what I use for a clean install: BIOS: v0407, set SATA to AHCI, USB 2.0 to FullSpeed Boot loader: EFIv9 or Chameleon 2.0 ACPI fixes: dsdt.aml (post #355) Decrypter in /Extra: AppleDecrypt.kext or dsmos.kext Kexts in /Extra: LegacyAppleAHCIPort.kext, LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext, LegacyAppleLPC.kext (post #355) Kexts in /S/L/E: LegacyAppleHDAController.kext, LegacyAppleHDAPlatformDriver.kext, AppleHDA.kext (post #364) That's all! No need for HDAEnabler, Disabler, NVKush or any of that. I use a 10.5.6 retail DVD to install: 1. Restore the 10.5.6 retail dvd image to a partition <partition>. 2. Install the boot loader 3. Place dsdt.aml in root of partition or <partition>/Extra depending on boot loader 4. Place kexts in <partition>/Extra 5. Create kextcache: sudo kextcache -m <partition>/Extra/Extensions.mkext <partition>/Extra/Extensions/ 6. Place kexts in <partition>/System/Library/Extensions 7. Make sure the kextcache rebuilts: sudo touch <partition>/System/Library/Extensions 8. Reboot, install and repeat for the installed version! As DiaboliK my system is rock solid, no problems at all. Also work fine, booting without -f is you're done messing with the kexts. Orange icons should be resolved by LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext as you can find anywhere on insanelymac. If they are still orange, it means it is not loading!
Hugo_bee
excuse me i've done all the steps.. the system boots fine in 17 seconds.. it's stable..quickly.. i'm so happy but 1: shall I remove really nvkush? 2: why every memory stick or usb drive or usb sata drive doesn't want to run? in the system.log I never see activities!! .. and as diabolik wrote.. i've removed hdaenabler. Hugo_bee
ok everything is ok BIOS: v0407, set SATA to AHCI, USB 2.0 to FullSpeedBoot loader: EFIv9 or Chameleon 2.0 ACPI fixes: dsdt.aml (post #355) Kexts in /Extra: LegacyAppleAHCIPort.kext, LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext, LegacyAppleLPC.kext (post #355) Kexts in /S/L/E: LegacyAppleHDAController.kext, LegacyAppleHDAPlatformDriver.kext, AppleHDA.kext (post #364) That's all! Hugo_bee
ok.. i've added news.. i'm right with you. i've a good stable and very fast boot. the only issue is the ehci. i've made bios settings like in the photoes in 355 post. i've the last bios in asus main site. then.. legacy is enable.. acpi is enabled.. and the log still write: -unable to obtain ownership

Tharbat
Sorry for writing my first pos here... but I've been following all guides and I'm kind of stuck. I managed to install properly 10.5.6, with all the kext pointed by FrodoKenny, and I'm using Chameleon 2.0. The problem is that I get a timed out waiting for iokit to quiesce and freezes. I've tried a modded IOATAFamily kext from around the forums, but i get the same result. Any sugestion? Thanks! T.

Hugo_bee
me too.we've the same {censored}! no.. ehm.. good thing but i have some things that are not equal with what are described into that topic. for example.. i have all native (retail) .. then ioata is not invoked.. except when you use the only one ata connector.. I have an older ATA DVD.. but I havent tested if it is visible or not under osx. I think IOATA is chained to ATA device.. but is only a idea. but.. is important if you explain with more words.. what type of partition did you chose. what kind of setup ypu made (dvd patched and launched manually.. with UOI..setup from scratch..) ps. have you an osx running in order to make modifies on-the-fly? you put chameleon 2.. then did you verify if you have proper E/E folder.. with the minimum valid kext? read my last post.. i use LegacyAppleAHCIPort.kext, LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext, LegacyAppleLPC.kext and disabler and openhaltrestart and appledecrypter
Tharbat
Hey Thanks for answering. I got pi#@%^ed off so I reformatted the drive and installed everything from scratch, and managed to boot, but following step by step Ufdah's guide (old Chameleon). No NVKush, though... My Setup. Bios 5.0.4 4 GB ram Kingston 1 BR-RW Plugged by SATA 1 HD 1Tb (windows) SATA 1 HD 1Tb (Mac) eSata (external) <-- Set as primary Drive in Bios, Booted from it. Last time I tryed, I booted popperly, but on the next boot I got stuck at the spinning wheel of death. Now I'm scared to turn it off lol. btw I'm not getting any sound device detected by the OS. I'll keep updating... thanks though. T. EDIT: I was right. As soon as I rebooted, I got a freeze. I can only boot with -f. I'll try to get a log and post it. Tharbat
I managed to get it working properly, with spdif out, but I had to add the -f kernel flag to the boot to avoid freezing. I might be off topic, but now I'm trying to get my other hardrive (windows) to work with AHCI, so I can have a dual boot. Did anyone managed to get it working with XP SP3 and this mobo? I tried manual updating the XP drivers (with the AHCI drivers from asus CD) before changing the bios, but I keep getting BSOD. Thanks folks! T. You have to reinstall windows using the F6 + floppy method. Or... You don't actually have to put your BIOS in AHCI mode. All that does is changes the PCI ID and type the SATA chip will report to the OS. If you put it into IDE mode, the chip still responds to AHCI commands! (This is how I dual booted XP + Linux back in the very early days) But you need to make sure that the AHCI driver will recognize the chip still. For that you need to edit the Info.plist in AppleAHCIPort. Find the section for MCP79AHCI, change the the PCI ID. For AHCI is 0ab8, for RAID is 0abc, not sure what regular SATA mode is, you can check in windows.
eject
hi, thanks for the new dsdt and the hda kexts from frodo. i'm using the kexts he supplied in extra and the hda*kexts in s/l/e. no other kexts, no kernel flags needed for booting, all three line outs do work, vanilla kernel atm, bios still 404, i don't see a point in upgrading since everything seems to work fine. usb is a bit {censored}, i'm using the full speed option since legacy gives me no keyboard in bootloader and full speed sometimes leads to eye tv stating it wold need and usb 2.0. a eboot later it works. also i need to restart eye tv after sleep to detect the device again. doesn't happen on real macs so i think it's somehow usb related. still a very good hack in ease of setting it up, thank to you folks, diaboliK, signal64, frodo ect

CamEwardo
Does HDMI audio work on this? After setting it all up i see the main chipsets output options. I selected Digital out but it shows a grayed out volume bar. I also added all of frodos modded audio kexts and checked permissions. Do i have to use lineout or SPDIF? Im trying to get this working for my new comp i have a 47" LG attached to my comp with just the HDMI cable :/ Thks
