Leo4allv3 finished and released

apowerr

Version 3 of eddie11c's popular Leo4all release has been uploaded to a private ftp, and should appear 'around' shortly. Leo4all is a 'universal' release and works on AMD and Intel. The official release notes are attached, here are the highlights:

First and most importantly is a totally rebuilt filesystem. The advantage with this is I no longer had to script a repair permissions from the DVD. This speeds install a good bit for most people. Don't worry if the timer says some outrageous time, as it does not calculate it correctly. The initial package install is very large and takes the most time, but once its done the install is almost done. I still recommend running repair permissions from Leopard once your all loaded up to fix some errors, but none of these will stop the system from booting. If you run it twice you should see zero errors on Intel and 2 SUID files on AMD. There is an install script that crashes on AMD machines causing this, but to keep everything perfect on intel I chose to leave the script intact.

This DVD now supports AHCI with more than 2 drives thanks to the updated kext's posted by Cyclonefr.

Also fixed this go around is X11 for both Intel and AMD. If, when you close it the first time, cpu usage jumps to 100% open terminal and type xeyes & to fix it. You will need to reboot after, but it should never glitch again.

There is no longer a ./RemoveVideo script, it has been updated and is now called ./options.

ACPIPlatform:

1.1.0 or 1.2.1. Included in each is ACPIPS2Nub to fix PS2 issues.

AppleSMBIOS:I put in lots of choices for different versions based on bus speed if you want it to show your proper memory speed, or if you want your hack to look like a real mac. The default install if nothing is selected is Netkas improved version 27.

Options are:

DDR667

DDR800

DDR1066

DDR1333

iMac

MacBook

MacPro

Kernel:

I have added Netkas 9.2.0 sleep kernel, and 9.2.2 binpatched kernel ny Modbin(Be warned this does not work on all AMD machines! SSE3 CPU is required!). The default install is still Netkas 9.2.0 speedstep kernel. There are also the Stock kernels(vanilla) 9.2.0/9.2.2

RemoveFireWire:

For those that have issues with FireWire, or those that just want to speed their boot time a little. This moves all of the IOFireWire kext's to /FireWire folder in the root of your install drive.

About This Mac:

This is my own little installer to customize "About this Mac" with your processor info. No it does not fix memory speed, you have to do that with AppleSMBIOS. It should work for all languages and should report overclocked CPU's properly.

Power Management:

By popular demand I added the laptop power management bundle to the install. You will still need to set it up in system preferences. This is known to have a few minor bugs. It may not report the proper time remaining or any time remaining for that matter, so use at your own risk. If you select this please do not select an ACPIPlatform, as this requires version 1.1.0.

AMD System Fix:

You will notice it is checked and greyed out by default. To take out alot of user error (people forgetting to check it for their AMD systems) I have added a script to detect the CPU and patch accordingly. When its running it will echo your processor information in the install log (if you show all). It will then skip the patch process if your on Intel or patch if its an AMD. I hope it works well for everyone!

Bootloader:

This option is checked and greyed out by default. It is Dense's script to install EFI and make the partition active. If you already have an existing bootloader (like from Vista) on the same logical drive it will not overwrite it. It will however flag the partition you installed to active, so you will have to manually set your Windows partition active again if needed.

Chipset Drivers:

(NOTE- JMicron is the only driver that always installs so please choose at least 1 option, some will have to choose 2 [if you have Marvell IDE and Intel SATA for example] ) If your not sure you can click all but 1 Nforce, as they will overwrite each other.

Nforce Old - This is the older version of Medevils Nforce(1.0.2) driver. Install this if you have issues with SATA enabled causing a panic. Known to work for some Nforce3 users.

Nforce Test- If you have a SATA DVD or do not have issues booting the DVD normally choose the NforceTest.

SiliconImage3132 - I have not found anyone that uses this specific chipset to confirm if it works.

VIA, SiS, Marvell and SB - Please install this if you are using any of these chipsets. If you have a Marvell IDE drive please install this as they should be supported. I have added many ID's here so I hope they all work! This chioce installs AppleVIAATA, AppleOnboardPCATA and AppleGenericPCATA. Confirmed working for SiS!

SAS - By request I added support for this, as of my writing this its untested. Hopefully it works.

Intel ICHx- If you have ICH7/8/9 chipsets you should install this. This is the modified version by -Dune- to support more than 2 drives and fix the over 2Gigs of RAM panics.

Audio:

These choices have not changed much, only added support for STAC9271 by request. If your not sure what chipset you have, please choose AzaliaAudio(for most HD) or AC97Audio.

Choices are:

ALC850/882/883/888/889

AC97Audio

ADI1988

STAC9271

AzaliaAudio

Graphics Drivers:

I have updated many of these packages.

ATI- there are options for:

3850

3870

2600XT(PCIE)

2600XT(AGP)

3870X2

2600PRO(PCIE)

2600PRO(AGP)

X1600(PCIE)

X1600(AGP)

X19X0

X1400 Mobility

Nvidia- I have updated the drivers to the latest available from the Mac Pro's and edited to include all Device ID's I could verify. This should cover mostly all 6XXX/7XXX/8XXX series cards. (List of ID's found in attached release notes)

NVinject- By request I have added options for different version of Nvinject(0.1.3/0.2.0/0.2.1). If your not sure choose version 0.2.1 with the proper amount of RAM your video card. I have added a modified version of 0.2.1 for 1Gig of VRAM.

GMA950 - QE/CI+resolution change with some artifacts

GMA950 - No Aritfacts QE/CI but no resolution.

GMAX3100 - suppose to give QE/CI(confirmed for device ID 0x2a02)

Network Drivers:

ForceDeth- This is compatible with most Nforce LAN.

ForceDeth-V - This is compatible with most Nforce LAN(recommended version)

Skge - Driver for most Marvell LAN cards.

RTL8187- Just as it says for Realtek 8187

Zydas USB- For the USB Wireless LAN adapter

Tiger IO80211- Some Atheros cards require this Tiger version to work. Default install is IO80211 from 10.5.2

Broadcom- WLAN driver for BCM4306/4309/4318/4320/4324

RT2500- Suppose to support Dlink WMP54G v4.0, may support some others.

ViaRhine- Just as it says, for ViaRhine chipsets

Intel 100Pro VE- Just as it says, for the Intel 100Pro VE chipset

RT2860- Driver for some chipsets like WL-181, may also work on some others.

Good Applications:

You can choose to install or not, but I do recommend many of these useful programs. They include:

Adium

AppZapper

BBEdit

CandyBar

Colloquy

FireFox

Gumby 50c

Invisibles

KCNScrew

KextHelper

Marvin's AMD Utility

MD5

Pacifist

PackageMaker version 2.1(old harder to find)

Stuffit Expander

Textmate

Transmission

TubeSock

Unison

VLC

Xbench

The Official Leo4all Wiki can be found here.

The mentionedAbout This Mac CPU information installer is an absolute gem! Thanks for all of the hard work eddie11c: I can't (and I know many of you can't either) wait to try this out :thumbsup_anim:

Hello,

I ran leo v2 without any additions or anything needed. I just put the disc in and installed it and it worked. Now on v3, it installs perfectly, then on boot gives me a *waiting for root device* and just keeps repeating. Are there settings I need to change or something? Gigabyte G965P-DS3 is the board I am using. Dual core 1.8. I use the onboard sata and video. Any help would be appreciated, there were a lot of options on this disc and I didnt know which would be nest for me. I knwo azailia audio, and intel gma950 is for my video. But waiting for root device, is that the sata drive? What option could i use to fix it? Thanks

EDIT: I did add a sata dvd burner drive before installing. But if the hdd on sata works I wouldnt think that would cause it.

Be sure to install the Intel chipset driver.
I am getting the "waiting for root device" error also. The thing is... I get this error while booting into the DVD to install. Any ideas?
Is your DVD SATA or IDE? Try the old Nforce kext ppf I included. Some ID's do not work on the newest version(such as 0x055010de and 056010de) both of which are IDE controllers.

Hey guys, I've used Leo4All V1-2 and as soon as I've booted into the OS, I've ALWAYS had QE enabled on my 128MB AGP Geforce 6800.

But, as soon as I've installed Leo4AllV3, I no longer have QE supported. I've tried every version of NVInject from the disk, I've added my deviceid I believe the correct way, and I still have no QE support.

Everything else works fine, but for some strange reason this release makes QE disabled and I'm not allowed to change my resolution.

Can someone PLEASE help me, as I have no idea what to do now, as I've tried to install every version I could, and it's just not working for me.

My card is a Geforce 6800 OC, 128MB AGP. It worked on NVInject 0.1.3 when I used iATKOS, and it worked with 0.1.3 when I used Leo4All Versions 1 and 2, but it won't work with 3 no matter what I do and it's the only thing I'm having trouble with.

Please help.

I also tested the Nvidia kexts only with my 8400M GS without succes, didn't work with any of these:

gfx string, NVinject, NVinjectGo or Natit.

maybe they need something else.

I believe there is some error with this release and some of the NVInject releases, as I cannot get it to work and I need help.

It works on the other releases.. so it can't be a problem with my card.

its something specific to the mobile go series of cards it seems. I am unsure what the cause of this problem is though. my 7600 gt go works fine, so my only suggestion would be try running leopard graphics update again. I will try to look into it more, but have no extra hardware thats not working to test with.

My card isn't a Go series card. It's an AGP Geforce 6800OC which worked in the previous releases.

I've tried NVInject, every version on the DVD, and I also tried the Nvidia kext on the DVD.

Should I try installing with no Graphics checked, then run the leopard graphics from Software Update?

I DID answer you! I said read the damn torrent. The very first compatibility part says JMicron.

Damn.

Ok ok. sorry . I missunderstood. I thought you meant that the operating system would run on a motherboard with JMicron controller. My question was bad formulated :P But anyways. That's GREAT news :) Thank you ^^

Be sure to install the Intel chipset driver.

Awesome that worked thanks! Is my best bet just using the default kernal? 9.2.0 or whatever?

Little more info that might help people with the graphics issue.

Hardware: Asus Laptop, Z71V, Intel 915 Chipset, Pent. M CPU. Nvidia 6600 Go Graphics card.

Leo4All V2:

Graphics not working "out of the box" with drivers from V2 install DvD. Did get it working using the Nvidia-Kexts.pkg file from the install DvD combined with the Nvinject drivers located here: NVinjectGo.0.2.0.zip . Would not work with the nvinjectgo kexts on the install DVD

Leo4All V3:

Graphics not working with the Nvidia-Kexts.pkg no matter what nvinject drivers I tried.

However, if I use the Nvidia-Kexts.pkg from the V2 install DvD, and the same Nvinject package referenced above, it works like a charm.

If I can believe system profiler, it's working right, including Quartz Extreme, whatever that is. I'm new to the MAC world, and I've noted a few people expressing concern about that working or not.. whatever it is, it says it's supported.

So do you think it will work for me if I copy the Nvidia-Kexts.pkg from V2 in Pacifist, and then install the 0.2.0 or 0.2.1 of NVInject instead of NVInject Go?

What is this pacifist you speak of? Sorry, I'm a noob at MAC's. I just used invisibles to set hidden stuff visible, popped the V2 dvd in, installed the pkg from the DvD, then used kexthelper to install the *.kext I downloaded from nvinject's web site. Best guess I have is that something in the V3 is horked, so using the old version works. I havn't tried the 2.1 'cause that's not for a GO (laptop) Nvidia card.

What have you got to lose by trying is the way I figure it. An hour or so re-installing? -_-

Pacifist is a program used to copy files from install DVDs. You can browse all of the packages, a lot easier than using Invisibles, and is very well updated. Check it out since you're new, it's great to copy over anything you need.

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm thinking I try it and copy the kext. pkg, and then use the installer for the NVInject as well.

If it doesn't work for me, I guess I can try to do the install again, and choose both. It seems theres just some problem with V3 for graphics :/

I believe this release is flawed. NVInject no longer works or supports QE on my card, yet it did in the last releases, and no matter what kext I use for my audio, it will not work anymore either yet it did at first.

I guess I'm going to have to stick with Leo4All V1..

Look guys I will assist with what I can, but don't blame me if your video is not working calling my work flawed. Its not like this is my job, if you don't like it don't use it. It's that simple.

It wasn't a shot against you, relax. I love your work, but this release seems to have some errors with it which wasn't your fault, but it doesn't seem like it's going to be sorted out. It could be any little thing.

You said it was rebuilt from the ground up, so one little thing could be causing it to not work for me. It's not a huge deal, as I'm sure it's figured out, but something about the compatibility got flawed.

I hope maybe we can get it working somehow, but I've tried everything that I know, and it doesn't seem to be working.

It could be my end, I really don't know, but I've never had a problem with video on V1 or V2, and I'm clueless as to what to do now.

Could the About This Mac editor that you included be causing a problem with my video somehow? I didn't check any SMBIOS I left it at default, I picked the NVInject 128MB and AzaliaAudio, and video just won't cooperate.
