French Unlocked iPhone only 750 Euros

Apple has just announced that it will be selling unlocked iPhones for only 750 Euros ($1105). Other prices for the iPhone will start at 399 euros ($589) for a version tied to the Orange network with a two-year service contract and an "Orange for iPhone" plan, or 549 euros ($810) for a model without one of the iPhone plans, but still tied to the network.

The entry level plan starts at 49 euros per month and includes 2 hours of normal talk time, 2 hours of late evening and weekend minutes, and 50 SMS text messages. The most expensive plan is priced at 119 euros and includes 8 hours of normal talk time, 8 hours of nights and weekends, and 1000 SMS messages. For those in America, the hours are so low because incoming calls are free in France.

Simulated GPS

The new My Location feature takes information broadcast from mobile towers near non-GPS equipped mobile phones to estimate the device's current location on the map down to approximately 10 city blocks. Google has released a beta for the Java, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and Nokia/Symbian phones, but not yet for the iPhone. Apple has promised us to keep the iPhone updated, so this could be included in the January (probably) update of the iPhone.

I love the fact that the plans offer "unlimited data", with a maximum of 500MB..

Orange reserves the right to reduce the bandwidth made available to any customer having exceeded 500MB of data in a single month

WTF? do you pay for incoming calls in america? what kind of stupid money-making rule is that?

and how much do you pay for a call (is it per minute, or is it a connection fee or both?)

glad i live in belgium

i pay 0,16€/minute and 0,08€/sms after 16:00 (4 pm) and in weekends. is it cheaper or not in america?

Man glad i am in India, i pay INR 1.00 for making a call that's about 0.02$ a min & same for texting! :(

the only problem i have is high cost of GPRS/EDGE & slow speed in return :)

Glad I have unlimited incoming and outgoing calls with the cell phone plan I got. Unlocking my iPhone was the best thing I could do because if I had gotten it when it came out with the 2 year contract, I would have had to give up my awesome cell phone service plan. No way I'm ever giving that up.

You pay for incoming calls in America

We get more minutes for the same price (relatively) and we don't pay for incoming either

It's not as bad as it seems. U.S. subscribers get a bank of minutes allocated to them each month. Any phone usage between the hours of 7am and 9pm on weekdays will deduct minutes from this bank of minutes and all other calls are completely unaccounted for and don't deduct from your plan, nor do calls placed amongst people using the same wireless carrier. Secondly, we are allowed to call anywhere in North America (including Canada) without incurring an extra fee.

For example, I pay about 6 cents per minute for the 950 minutes that are included in my bank of minutes each month, but when you consider that I actually talk on my phone about twice as much, but don't get charged for the minutes because of the stipulations set forth above, it's really not a bad deal at all. Plus there is no connection fee of any kind.

P.S. SMS pretty much works the same way with the whole "bank" thing.
