Early builds of Apple’s upcoming OS X 10.9 include Siri and Maps integration

Mr.D.
  • Sources say that early builds of OS X 10.9 integrate Apple’s Siri voice command software much like Apple’s newest iPad models running iOS 6. Early builds in testing of the next-generation Mac operating system, OS X 10.9, point to Siri and Maps integration coming to Mac computers next year, according to sources.

New OS X version next summer? Again? Oh no! Soon Apple will be releasing new OS X(XI) version every 6 moths... I don't have budget to buy new PC every year.

Though I do speak to computer every now and then (hush, don't tell anybody), I don't think it would be a good idea for the PC to understand me and even worst to reply back in human voice! It wouldn't be a pleasant conversation esp. if the thing is misbehaving.

As for the map application, it won't be much of the use if there are no GPS build-in in the Macs.

This is something really interesting but I don't think it useful. Take dictation for example, I tried it when Mountain Lion came out, but I rarely used it indeed. So will Siri and Map be.

I'm sorry, what?

Since when have we needed a GPS antenna or module to do Google mapping on a PC?

They will just use an internet connection?

Siri with Flyover is used for turn-by-turn directions on the iPhone 5. Adding Siri and Flyover (Apple's map app) together seems silly. perhaps if i could install osx 10.9 on a UMPC then fine, otherwise, why would I have my macbook air riding shotgun? use an iPhone or - better yet - a Galaxy SIII. the internet connection location service is either ISP dependent (for wired connections) or WiFi dependent, which is like ghetto GPS. my ISP reports my location exactly 60 miles west of where I am. While WiFi 'GPS' would work, it'd only work where there was a large concentration of WiFi hotspots. Perfect for Chicago or Las Vegas - not so much for BFE Wyoming.

And for the record... everywhere in Wyoming is BFE.

Globalsat BU-353 GPS USB receiver SiRF III
Well, it can work, but may not be as convenient as an internal one (like in Googloid smartphones).

Yes, the internet connection. But the internet connection is not available everywhere, contrary to GPS data which is available in any place where a clear sky is present. If there are maps stored on HDD/SSD (free storage space is not an issue with PC), then at least some Map feature would work even without internet access (via GPS provided location data).

Really? :) It's just I'm not 100% sure that some of newly added features would work on some older Macs.

Very true Dr. D of what you said, which brings up another question, does Apple plan to embed the same WiFi/4G chip in all MacBooks and Airs?
