Annoid
Any ideas? Hardware: Asus Z71V Laptop, Intel 915 chipset, CPU is a Pent. M @ 2Ghz, 2 G system Ram. This laptop has a very simple BIOS, almost nothing is settable. Am able to install Kalyway 10.5.1 w/no issues, but cannot upgrade using the combo 10.5.2 updater, rebooting takes 15 min. each time after that, upgrading to netkas 9.2 kernel will not boot. Running the Install DvD for Kalyway 10.5.2 results in the error below. The install disk will boot fully on other hardware, so it's not a bad d/l or burn. I've tried every documented boot option I know about, and a few wild guessses, the error is always identical or very nearly so. Thanks in advance for any assistance which someone might be able to provide. Boots apparently ok to this point. Loads drivers for the synaptics touchpad ok, then: ====== panic(cpu 0 caller 0x339C1DE0): AppleSMCPDRC ::start - unrecognized device type\n"@SourceCache/IOPlatfromPluginFamily/IOPlatformPluginFamily-315.0.3/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin/AppleSMCPDRC.cpp Debugger Called: <panic> Backtrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x33a2bdb8 : 0x12b0e1 (0x45833c 0x33a2bdec 0x133285 0x0) 0x33a2be08 : 0x339c1de0 (0x339c3460 0x339c3450 0x33a2be48 0x40baah5) 0x33a2be48 : 0x40fd2e (0x3ceb500 0x3c51c00 0x1 0x3ea6c0) 0x33a2bea8 : 0x411bc3 (0x3c51c00 0x3ceb500 0x3c7cdc0 0x0) 0x33a2bf28 : 0x411427 (0x3c51c00 0x3c6a480 0x0 0xffffffff) 0x33a2bf78 : 0x4100a3 (0x3c51c00 0x0 0x33a2bfac 0x1) 0x33a2bfc8 : 0x19f3cc (0x3c4f2a0 0x0 0x1a20b5 0x357c80) Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0 Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependancies) com.apple.driver.ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin(3.1.5d3)@0x339ba000->0x339c5fff dependancy: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.4.1)@0x2e24d000 dependancy: com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily(1.2.0)@0x2e263000 dependancy: com.apple.driver.IOPlatformPluginFamily(3.1.5d3)@0x3397a000 dependancy: com.apple.driver.AppleSMC(2.0.1d2)@0x33997000 BSD process name corresponding to current thread: kernel_task Mac OS version: Not yet set Kernel Version: Darwin Kernel Version 9.2.0: Sun Mar 2 00:11:08 SCT 2008; made by ToH:xnu-1228/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_i386
neofena
Same here. Any solution? @Annoid can u tell me how exactly did you install 10.5.1 kalyway, because i am with ASUS X51R and i have very simple BIOS too. Can u tell me what did you do step by step to make it work? thanks!
Annoid
The only issue I have is multibooting w/ XP & Vista, had some issues w/vista, but as far as the OS X install, just put the Kalyway 10.5.1 dvd in, installer booted up just fine. At the customize screen, I selected SSE2 system, Nvidia laptop drivers, Generic sound (Azaliea? or something), no network/wi-fi, and mbr-efi. Let the install go, and it went in no problem. At that point, it starts up, and can select XP or OS X with the darwin bootloader... OS X boots fine, the skge kext gets my LAN up... haven't farted around w/wireless yet. I cannot upgrade to 10.5.2 using the Kalyway combo updater, and any kernel upgrade to 9.2 failed also. I'm starting to think that 10.5.1 is as far as I can go w/that laptop. VoeN
Hi! I have the same problem as you guys, i get a kernal panic everytime i try to install this. I'm using "Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD Intel Amd", which can be found at the bay. I tried booting from the CD to start the install, however, i always get into kernal panic. What i get is: Loading Darwin/x86 Loading kernal mach_kernal Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernal] from 422d690. Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernal] from 422d690. Racunus
Hey guys, I have exactly the same problem. My machine: Dell Inspiron 9300 Nvidia GeForce go 6800 Intel Chipset Pentium 1.83 GHz I downloaded Kalyways 1.5.2 release with no problems and burned on a DVD with 4x speed, not full. -> Kernel panic like you described. Next I went into the Bios and deactivated MiniPCI, Network, WiFi and USB controller. -> Kernel panic as described. Then I used a blank DVD from a different label, burned it again and tried again -> no change. Then I removed the HD and tried to run it with DVD only -> no difference. Then I used my first DVd and put it in my company's Notebook (I have no system specs, but it's a dual core) -> runs perfectly (sure I couldn't install it, but I came very far) So its seems to depend on something on my single core Dell Notebook - but as I have no options left, I'm hoping someone will come up with a solution. I read in the forums of the Mac-Users with Mac Hardware that they experience the same problems sometimes, so this is a problem with the kernel I guess - but I don't know enough from the Kernel to say for sure. I hope I helped the guys a bit who are trying to find the mistake - would be great to have the ne Kalyway release running on my Dell...
Racunus
okay, an update to my tests yesterday. I tried to start the DVD with parameter -v cpus=1 -> again, no success. In another forum someone gave the advise to run the installation in safe mode -x. I tried this, and the process took a little longer, but ended up the same: As my Dell tried to load the 9.2.0 Kernel, I've got the freeze. K, now I'm out of ideas - I hope anyone can give some advice for the problem.

Guest
Ahhh!!!! i get this bloody problem as well... spend ages download Kalyway 10.5.2 and then i get this bloody problem. My specs are posted on my signature. I really want a fix for this since its being a flipping pain. Another thing i have tried -v -x -s cpus=1 all at once and it doesn't work. Leo4Allv2 atleast starts to install on my comp (can't select drive) JaS 10.4.8 completely installs So it seems to be a kernel problem or compatability. Sigh

Dense
The problem is caused in the following file: /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext/Contents/Info.plist In that directory you'll also notice an Info.plist.orig This was something I was experimenting with based on some information provided by Slice. In theory it should have been a good change but in practise it did nothing but cause crashes. I disabled it in my build process but for some reason Kalyway decided to add it and it was missed in his own testing. The solution is difficult because you need to overwrite the Info.plist with the Info.plist.orig to restore it to working values. Obviously on a read only media this is going to be a problem. I'm hoping Kalyway provides a PPF to fix this.
