with your favourite tool (partiton magic, diskpart, fdisk, whatever) delete your chosen victim partition & create a new one in its place, type AF, unformatted if neecessary, then format it with macdrive (Ive never done that, but I believe it works)

I tryed to do it with acronis disk director suite 10, transmac 7.3 ans mac drive 6, but it doesn't work...

I have an unformatted partition of 25gb now, but i don't know how to select de type of partition to put AF..

I can't do it with those softwares...

Do you know maybe how can i make it with diskpart???

there was a great set of instructions for doing it inside of XP with diskpart. its on the wiki though, and I don't remember the details as I only used it once... You can wait as the wiki is supposed to come back up ASAP, or maybe you can find it elswhere - maybe google 'diskpart help AF' ? :)

IIRC, it goes like this:

diskpart

list disk

- shows you your disks

select disk 0

- or whichever drive you want to use

list partition

- shows you the partitions, verify that the empty space is there

select partition 2

- or whichever you want to delete

delete partition

- now it's unallocated space

create partition primary id=af

- makes a new parititon in the unallocated space with type AF (you can add "size=XXXX" for XXXX megabytes")

Acronis can also make the AF offset...just right-click the partition, go to 'advanced'...has all the hex offsets in there.

If you still cant format it in windows after doing that, I found you CAN reformat to HFS on a mounted disk in OSX by selecting it in disk utility and choosing 'Delete' with HFS+...boom, formatted :)

I was having the exact same issue. I've been a windows guys for years but learned about computers on a MAC back in the mid 90's. Software issue back then. I'm still working on formatting as well. When installing OSx86 10.4.4 it won't allow me to format to HFS+ to a seperate partitian, however it will allow me to format the entire hard drive which I obviously am not doing. I currently have a dual boot with XP Pro and SuSe 10. I attempted to format through the Suse 10 boot disk. I also have tried using Acronis Disk Director Suite with No luck. I'll try the suggestions listed here and see how it goes. Thanks.

Which partitian type (hex) there are about 40+ listed. A couple look like posibilities.

Apple Booter

Apple UFS

None of the others look compatible. Thanks.

Running MacDrive 6 with latest updates and read this in the help section.

"You cannot use MacDrive Disk Manager to add a Mac partition to a PC-partitioned disk. Using MacDrive Disk Manager on a PC-partitioned disk will destroy all PC partitions."

When I try to partitian using MacDrive it only shows my entire hard drive and thats it. It doesn't show any of the paritians I have. Can I format my other partitian somehow with Acronis DDS so they will show up in MacDrive Disk Manager. I have my primary/active C:/ drive with my XP Pro on and three other NTFS logical drives.

In Acronis, choose ShagOS (Swap) type. It will then be listed as type 0xAF, confirm changes, reboot with OS X DVD in. Disk Utils will now be able to 'Erase using hfs+', install!

I wasn't sure if the partition had to be at the beginning or end of the drive, but my OS X partition is snug between a 10GB Vista partition and a 90GB FAT32 partition. < --- Will be re-formatting to HFS+ soon, can't stand FAT's limitations.
