Urbz
hi, my secondary computer is not really used by me anymore, especially because it still runs windows (bleh...) but my sister uses it a lot. She wants mac, but all the processor has is sse. Mr. Bond
Bleh! Simply a cheap imitiation of the real thing! But good if you want the OSX look without the...well...err, OSX. And if windowblinds is any indication, I'm sure it sucks up a load of ram. Urbz
yup: i've already given up! I found a great guide, but it turns out the many apps needed really take up a lot of recources: it slows down the pentium 3 system to a crawl. All we have is 128mb of ram, so were just going to tough it out for a few more months, then get an iMac. I knew it would slow down the sytem, just didn't think it would be THAT slow as a side note, has anyone noticed that slower speed ram costs way more than higher speed ram? Mr. Bond
Yeah...I asume it's because the older technology is no longer produced in as large quantities as before, because of lack of consumer demand for old technology. I noticed that with one of my old dell boxes. We'd bought it just before SDRAM was replaced by DDR. When I went to upgrade it a while later, upgrade prices were pretty bad. quixos
windowblinds uses less ram and system resources than windows own theming service. it doesn't even run any separate executables. i used it to SPEED UP my sisters older machine, and it noticeably improved the smoothness of her gui. UNLESS of course you are using themes with transparency. anyone still using a geforce 400mx and 128 megs of ram might notice a wee slowdown moving windows, i shouldn't be suprised. bashing windowblinds is so 1990's. of course the majority of the themes, are the antithesis of the OS X aesthetic, but that's another story. Mr. Bond
Didn't mean to sound like I was bashing. Just the last time I used it, the theme I was using was heavy on transparency, and slowed down my Dell to a crawl. That + Photoshop = Maybe things have changed, but I don't really care about appearance enough anyways. DiaboliK
try looking for bricopacks they have the windows ispirat (vista theme) it just changes all the ms style shells. so virtually no slow down.( i used it on a p3 800mhz laptop w/128mb o' RAM, still speedy.) there is a bricopack most like osx its called milk. you'll have to scrounge the web deep for it, it took me months to find and now it will take me months to find the disk i put it on.
