Update News: I edited post#2 for 10.5.3 update guide explaining related information about main titles to briefly show what is what and what are needed...

Here is a quick shot of the 10.5.3 update package guide/information for lazy a$$ ones...

1) 10.5.3 OSX Combo Update and Fix 10.5.3 are necessary and selected

2) Kernels : By default 9.2.0 ToH Sleep Kernel selected with correct system.kext version, if you dont select any kernel, it will install 9.3.0 vanilla kernel and 9.3.0 system.kext

3) Drivers: By default, no audio/video/network selected, but chipset drivers selected, unless you know what you are doing, dont touch chipset selections. Install anything you need.

Special Note to Nvidia VGA Owners: 10.5.3 update disables old nvinject, therefore QE is disabled as a result hardware acceleration is trimmed. So everything on screen may lag. There are two solutions to this problem.

Solution A-): Use gfx strings (not included in this update package, although I intended to) if you know how to... (gfx strings supported by efi v8, R3 iatkos doesnt have it, so you either need to install it manually, or make a clean Kalyway 10.5.2 in the first place)

Solution B-): In nvidia drivers/nvinject section: Select OLD Nvidia Drivers + Correct Nvinject as usual... (this is temporary solution for nvidia users, and once new 10.5.3 compatible nvinject comes out, I will make gfx update fixer for newest drivers, sou you will get back everything)

4) Patches:

Mac.Pro Named Smbios by Mac.Nub is selected and works quite well, however if you know what you are doing, you can change this setting to any other, but suggest not to touch it.

USB: If you have issue with your High Speed Bus (aka USB 2.0 Controller) you can use this driver. However do not confuse this driver as USB NOT MOUNTING (read frequent problems section above for details of usb not mounting issue) fix. This is totally different. Make sure you understand the difference.

5) Usefull Program: By default none is selected. I recommend all of them.

Candybar: to change/sort your OSX icons.

Colloquy: IRC client

Kernel Installer: Very simple kernel install program for newbies

Kext Helper: Very simple kext (aka driver) install program for newbies

Perian: Various video/audio codecs for Quicktime. Think of it as multipack codec pack to play majority of the video files, in quicktime without need of any 3rd party apps.

VLC: This is all-in one multi purpose video/audio player. Even if you have perian, this is one of must-haves...

Let Me Know the test results so, if anything wrong, can be fixed ASAP.

@parm: Good luck, I hope you are using 10.5.2 Kalyway... :)

My route to successfully updated to 10.5.3 using Mysticus C* Updater apart from USB devices not mounting (see later)

1) Ran Mysticus C* Updater without choosing any VGA mods to the current 0.21 version NVinject.kext

2) As a result video not working beyond blue screen but restarted using -v -f -x to go into Safe Boot and then did the following:

Manual Fix (http://www.infinitemac.com/nvkush-to-fix-qe-ci-after-1053-update/)

If NVkush didn’t work you can try to use an EFI string for your card. If that doesn’t work either you could try Krazubu’s method instead. He claims that the process is very simple and the problem is caused by a little detail in the plist. However, the guide assumes that the card was working before the update, which means you were using the right kexts with the correct IDs and the injecter correctly set.

1. Open the Info.plist of your injecter

/System/Library/Extensions/XXXX.kext/Contents/Info.plist

2. Find this line

<key>IOProbeScore</key>

<integer>XXXX</integer>

3. Replace XXXX with 0

4. Save the new file to the desktop, move the file back and overwrite the original one. You will need to authenticate.

5. Fire up the terminal and type the following 3 lines to repair the permissions

sudo chown -R root:wheel /system/library/extensions

sudo chmod -R 755 /system/library/extensions

sudo rm /system/library/extensions.mkext

6. Exit and Reboot, QE/CI should be back.

But video still not proceeding beyond blue screen and working slowly in Safe Boot mode but with display artefacts. So I then downloaded and ran NVkush Installer (http://diabolik1605.com/DHF/) and rebooted with -v -f.

SUCCESS - NVkush guessed correctly that my GPU is a GeForce 8600GT and so my Samsung 913N 19" display running fine :D

Also, there was initially no audio until I reinstalled the AppleAzaliaAudio.kext and ran the Taruga_AD1988b_rev3_Installer - Audio working fine e.g. on iTunes radio streaming and audio CD playback vy DVDRW:

However, although System Profiler see High Speed USB bus and shows USB devices as being connected, no USB devices mount (i.e. not USB device icons appera on desktop).

During startup verbose logging shows "failed to load com.orByte.driver.PCGenUSBEHCI@ and running the Mysticus C* USB Not Mounting Fix v1.0 package does not resolve the issue. :(

Have yet to try the Lingon route.

Mysticus C* - can you help?

Also I have found out that USB devices mount on the desktop if connected before booting.

BTW My system XBench score of 162.31 under 10.5.3 is much better than my Powermac G5 Dual 2GHz score of only 85.7 under 10.5.3.

hiya, not much progress here for the graphics ... :] in need of idea now.

Graphic Drivers updated to 10.5.3, gfx-strings work -confirmed-

sadly reports, the new update didn't solve the MILD laggy mouse problems.

haxi, in the first place, you have pcgenusb2 driver in place... you do not need that!!! if you used kalyway 10.5.2, most likely installed with default settings, w/o reading my install guide... this is how you got it... usb not mounting fix v1.3 definetely fixes it, if you choose the correct settings... i tested it myself and can confirm it works... do you go to customize section in any installer? if so read the titles carefully...

Hi mysticus,

1. Thanks for your great contributions to coordinating and progressing the installing and running of Leopard on nForce MOBOS!

2. I was not blaming you for my USB devices not mounting, just reporting my current state of progress in updating to 10.5.3 using your updater

3. I do not believe I have PCGenUSB2 driver installed:

usb not mounting fix v1.3 definetely fixes it, if you choose the correct settings... i tested it myself and can confirm it works...

Because it has been a while since I have had to tinker with my fully working Kalyway 10.5.2 install, I had forgotten that the USB Not Mounting Fix v1.0.mpkg did not force-delete kexts, and so I had manually installed matching mach_kernel and system.kext versions (9.2.0), giving mountable USB devices!

So this time I had just used it again, obviously without success:

uname -a

Darwin xxxxxxx.lan 9.2.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.2.0: Sun Mar 2 00:11:08 SCT 2008; made by ToH:xnu-1228/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_I386 i386

cbp-PC-quadcore:Plugins nforcer$

<key>CFBundleVersion</key>

<string>9.3.0</string>

And because I had a working 10.5.2 system I was not aware of usb not mounting fix v1.3.

So, I will locate, download and run it to sourt out mu USB not mounting problem....

do you go to customize section in any installer? if so read the titles carefully...

I do.

Thanks for you help in pointing me to usb not mounting fix v1.3.

@haxi: i m just pointing out that you need to read around a bit... the reason for it is because I ve been updating the guides and info in post#2... so better to check it frequently... i try to cover as much problems/solutions and new guides in post#2... Once you check post#2, you will understand what I mean... There have been some changes and additions in it...

and glad you read some of the stuffs... you are on your way...

@haxi: glad you solved it now, from the look of your kextstats, you have choosen the iousbfamily.kext as well? because of pcgenusb2? because current usb family is 3.1.5 looks like you have old one from usb mount fix, no biggie, but you should have installed the usb mount fix b4 the update first so 10.5.3 would give you correct latest drivers... anyways... it should work fine still...

I will test the update package again on my system to see if I missed anything in the installer... because looks like, system.kext may give some trouble, to revert to older version, which is not hard to replace using usb fix v1.3 after the install... I m sure most of you can live one restart w/o usb not mounting issue :D dont know why, but kernel is replaced fine, and system.kext didnt for some reason... I will check what was wrong...

Hi mate.

I don´t even know how this update will work for my rig.

I´m still downloading the Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD in order to update to 10.5.3.

As Mysticus told, this latest update won´t work for 10.5.2 ComboUpdate. ;)

Hi Mysticus,

Should I wait for you to check the 10.5.3 updater before (on my bootloader volume) do the following:

1. Run Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD with PCGenUSB2 not selected and correct VGA choice etc.

2. Run USB Fix v1.3

3. Run Mysticus C* 10.5.3 Updater

4. Install AppleAzaliaAudio.kext

5. Run the Taruga_AD1988b_rev3_Installer?

6. Install the updated 3.1.5 USBFamily kexts, then repair permissions etc. in /S/L/E/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins on the current 10.5.3 install after deleting the old USBFamily kexts you refer to?

What do you recommend?

1 correct! if you are making a brand new install... including erasing the partiton first before you install everything once again... make sure you have important files (update packages personal files etc) saved somewhere b4 you erase anything...

2 partially correct, in usb fix, use customize window, and uncheck iousbfamily only leave 9.2.0 system.kext only. but since you are gonna run it again at step 7, no need to do it, just keep your usb flash disk where your all update files... so you dong have the issue in this step... but installing will not hurt either...

3 correct!

4 not needed!

5 yes!

6 not needed! because since you unchecked pcgenusb2, update installed original files, 10.5.3 will update original files to 3.1.5 already...

7- run the usb not mounting fix once again, same as step 2, customize uncheck iousbfamily, and install 9.2.0 system.kext only ... because somehow 9.3.0 system.kext is not replaced with the 9.2.0 one, dont know yet why, but usb fix 1.3 will fix it, so no worries...

Hi Mysticus,

I clean installed Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD to my external eSata volume with NVinject 256 selected, but need to do -s mount -uw / and /movevideodrivers to get past blue screen?, then ran v1.3 USB mount fix, installed your 10.5.3 updater, booted -v -f -x to go to Safe Boot, set NVinject Info.plist IOProbeScore = 0, then installed NVkush, but still had to do -s mount -uw / and /movevideodrivers to get past blue screen?, then ran v1.3 USB mount fix.

Anyhow, I managed to get everything running under 10.5.3 on the eSATA volume (just as on the internal HDD volume) but now with the updated USB kexts:

so then booted 10.5.2 on the internal HDD volume with maxmem=2048 and cpus=1, enabling me to use Carbon Copy Cloner 3.1 to clone a bootable copy onto the now erased previous 10.5.3 install with the old IOUSBFamily kext etc.

I would like to understand

(a) what -s mount -uw / and /movevideodrivers actually did that fixed the blue screen issue, as your 10.5.3 Updater NVinject 256 kext was already installed?

I noticed using kextstat -l that in 10.5.2 that the following video kexts are loaded:

and

(;) how I have enabled full QE/CI without having to use either gfx strings (EFI strings?), or by selecting OLD Nvidia drivers + NVinject 256 in your 10.5.3 updater?

How does NVkush differ from NVinject so that it enables glitch-free and full QE/CI operation under 10.5.3 (with NVinject Info.plist IOProbeScore = 0 in my case)?

Thanks

Haxi

best way to upgrade you system from 1052 to 1053 is use pacifist, by not selecting new kernel and appleintelcpupowermanagement.kext. then you are good to go...

@envying, it is not entirely correct... i assume you didnt check the scripts that are also needs to be run before and after installation... to clean up some mess...? did you?

for the gfx card enabling qe/ci... like i said, before, i dont know about nvkush, neither able to test it because i dont have nvidia gfx card...

but i know two methods that works...

+ gfx string? with all newest drivers...

+ old drivers + nvinject selected during update

+ nvkush maybe working but didnt read anything about it, so no knowledge to what it does...

Hi all.

I have some news about my attempt to install 10.5.3 update in a fresh 10.5.2 Kalyway DVD install.

The update process runs fine, but when rebooting, system starts - using the -v flag I could see a message in yellow saying something about USB Gen - but I didn´t install this package from the update, ´cause I never had problem on USB mounting.

When I installed the nvidia drivers for my first test it booted fine but my mouse and keyboard - using PS/2 yet because Microsoft didn´t returned my usb one till now - freezes and I couldn´t do anything to see what happens. I was thinking about install NVKush to test it but didn´t have the chance.

After doing an fresh install of the Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD and update to 10.5.3 with Mysticus Combo Update - my monitor doesn´t show the desktop screen, my display goes to standby mode, but my HD is still running and loading the system.

I´m still waiting for my USB mouse & keyboard to arrive to see if this freezing is something about PS/2 compatibility issue. As soon as my desktop kit arrives, I´ll make another test using it and see if it still freezes.

Any ideas of what´s may happening here?

I´m all ears, or better, I´m all eyes.

Hey Mysticus, thanks for all your help...

Unfortunately the updater isn't working for me, when I select the old drivers with the correct nvinject the installation fails and the system doesn't boot anymore. Doesn't matter which kernel I selected at boot, there always appears a message like "crash log file..." again and again.

Without choosing the old drivers, the system boots fine but really lags, like you said.

Do you have any idea? I hope it wasn't said already, didn't found anything about it.

P.S.: I think Steve Jobs himself deleted your signature :(

i will check the old driver installer, to see what is wrong with it...

@breaking bad: read the post#2... 4gb ram is a NO-GO it is written in the guide, and it has been said many times... it causes random freezes...

for nvidia gfx card owners, just be patient for the nvinject, or learn to use gfx strings...

EDIT: nvinject test version is out... anyone wanna test?

install 10.5.3 update without gfx drivers... when finished dont restart and DOWNLOAD THIS and install it... see this helps 10.5.3 users?

good luck... and report back success....

Note: I will update the 10.5.3 Update package to include new drivers and check for any problems in the installer...

Thnx Mysticus for the link.

Already downloaded the file and ASAP I´ll try another install.

I forgot to take 2 sticks of memory out.

As I was running the iATKOS with the 4 sticks I completely forgot. My bad.

You rule :D

It is working fine now, although I have a geforce 8800 GTS with 320 MB. I selected vanilla and 512 in the installer, now my graphic card has 512 MB of vram, that must be magic :|

will you fix the 320-version too?

anyway, great work!!!

P.S.: Why are you still using 10.5.2, any advantages for your system?

i will try to implement it to the main update package and extract the old version.... also need to add ahci driver fix as well... damn 10.5.3 screwed the ahci driver for my ich-9... anyways, it is no biggie... i didnt update to 10.5.3 totally because I didnt really like the performance on my gfx card,,, in fact degraded performance... for ati... and some other minor issues... as soon as I sort em out, i will update to 10.5.3... also I will replace the main kernel package in the update, from vanilla to 9.2.0 sleep kernel and 9.2.0 system.kext and vanilla system.kext and kernel as option... better that way...

10.5.3 update package revision list (very soon):

+ nvinject for 10.5.3 nvidia drivers

+ ich drivers fix

+ 9.2.0 kernel and system.kext as default drivers into the install and not as an option.

+ vanilla kernel and system.kext as an option...

+ minor cosmetic changes...

Warning: Signatures must be changed... As mods requests when they see, you will need to change signature to 5 lines max... Check mine for example... Dont add too many useless stuffs as well.. keep it clean and tidy... :D

Great, I will test the new updater when it comes out, although my system is running fine.

Ok Steve Jobs didn't delete your signature :)

I changed mine too...

Trumpet will be refreshed once the test passes. It takes approximeteley 3-3.5 hrs to refresh the Trumpet buttons... So be patient please...

Update News: Update package passed the initial test. Trumpet button is being made right now. Hopefully in 3-3.5 hrs it will be ready. I will leave the Trumpet button in a working condition, but it will work only when it is constructed. So you will need to try to play it couple of times in couple of hours until construction is finished. I will be sleeping by the time it is finished :). Pleas play it nicely so I can have a good nite sleep :) So I need volunteers to test the package in their secondary/test partition and report success. Of course any one can volunteer, but make sure you do it on a secondary partition, or if anything goes haywire, you should not have anything to worry about loosing... This is a learning curve, and it may sometimes involves bricking... I hope everything goes smooth...
