Hassan Rai Posted May 28, 2008 Share Posted May 28, 2008 Hello Guys, Thanks for all the fantastic work you are doing. i own a MBP, but I want make OS run on my desktop machine too. I just upgraded it yesterday and haven't installed anything on it. Wanted to try Hackintosh first! I got a Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD from a friend who had just installed it on his Asus P5B system and OS was running fine on his system... i put it in my DVD drive and after a few tries it booted to the install screen. I selected the options as directed by Mysticus... it verified my DVD and then tried calculating time to install, however immediately after it gave me a 'Failed to Install' error with a big yellow exclamation mark saying "The installer could not validate the contents of the ‘base system’ package. Contact software manufacturer for assistance." after that it only gives me the option to reboot. I have been trying to find a solution to that on this forum and on google for the past 4 hours but i have had zero success. i find it astonishing that many people have not faced a similar situation. When someone has mentioned this issue, no one has responded. I got frustrated and therefore reluctantly decided to ask this question. Can any of you please help me out? Mysticus C* Posted May 28, 2008 Author Share Posted May 28, 2008 validation error is caused by not being able to read the dvd properly... either the dvdrom is old and cant read the kalyway dvd, or kalyway dvd is damaged, or it is burned at high speed... + it has to be burned at 4x or lower speed... + you have to skip the dvd check when it starts validating! (this is said in my guide however the pic is gone for some reason, but still note is there, click skip on the validation screen) your problem is most likely the dvd media is damaged, or your dvdrom is old that cant read the dvd try reburning the dvd at lower speed!!! check my post#2 and find the trumpet buttons to learn how to get the kalyway... so you can have your own, or ask your friend to reburn it to a new dvd at 4x or lower speed.... Today something strange happened to me. I made some updates through the software update and got my hole system restarting even using flags. I had to made a recovery. I downloaded - Update 1 to JAVA for Mac OSX. This kinda file should be downloaded or this is the kinda to avoid??? As I remember your advise here on not downloading major updates, I made only the software updates. I don´t know what could gone wrong. Just to know... is there any chance to get an ALC888 working in 5.1 home theather system or by now this is a dream?? Now that 10.5.3 is out, will i be able to go straight from 10.5.1 to 10.5.3? I haven't seen this covered before, and am new to the update process of macs. I told that was none but I made myself misunderstood. There was none for ME, because my 5.1 system is a little bit old and I haven´t spdif digital input. Sorry bout that. Hi Mysticus. I ran your package of ALC888 drivers - specifically the 6 ports one - and got my sound working fine, but not in 5.1 channels. Is there any problem to install more than one driver for ALC888? Because my sound runs fine 2 channels, just using the driver in leo. I am using kalyways update linked in your first post. it sounds like you have some problem with integrity of the packages... it may have been damaged while downloading, sometimes happens... validation error is usually damaged files... are you sure you downloaded all the pieces and extracted the file correctly? i dont think anyone had this error before... make sure your file is not damaged in the download process... download it again... and see if it helps... So patience is needed... There is no BIG BIG rush for this update I suppose, didnt see any world changing differences... (Please dont ask when it will be out... It will be out when it is tested and safe...) + will fix the nvidia drivers for nforce chipset but you guys will need to have gfx strings for most of the devices, as far as I can see current nvinjects dont work... I´d like to know, if there´s big big differences in choosing kernel. I explain why. I was surfing through some topics here about many subjects, and saw that some people uses vanilla kernel and say it´s the most. I´d like to understand this differences. Thnx in advance for replies. Is this the same as the driver on medevil's thread, or is this something new? I ask because I've been getting random lockups with his driver when copying files and I'm wondering if there's something more current available. I also second B4D's thoughts about all your hard work to make this easier for noobs like me! You're guide has really saved my !**. cigarettes Posted May 30, 2008 Share Posted May 30, 2008 OK, I got the 10.5.2 installed. I redownloaded, and it worked. After installing according to your instructions, along with the gfx update, I rebooted, and everything worked fine. However I rebooted again just a few hours later, and it locked during post. I dont have time to mess with it at the moment, I am way too tired. I'll mess with it tomorrow, and hopefully be installing 10.5.3! Mysticus C* Posted May 30, 2008 Author Share Posted May 30, 2008 @brekaing bad: vanilla has been explained in many places, but here again, (i will also give some short description about kernels in post#1 or post#2) vanilla kernel: is the untouched original Apple's kernel for real MACs. The reason some people can use it is because they meet certain criteria like chipset (certain intel chipsets) models, cpus (intel core 2 duo/quad==aka c2d/c2q), efi emulation (i m not quite sure about necessity of this for vanilla==may need correction)... The reason why you cant use this one is because, apple changed the scheduler function in the kernel since 10.4.9 tiger, which doesnt work correctly on nforce chipset. Vanilla kernel is double the size of patched kernels usually because vanilla contains PPC code in it addition to x86 as well for backward compatibility (and maybe intel xeon cpus in mac pros==may need correction). whereas patched kernels usually compiled to work on x86 cpus... kabyl (golden) and ToH kernels: Kabyl is the first one to figure out the scheduler problem on nforce chipsets (I was begging netkas for this issue for months but he always ignored most likely he was not aware of the issue and didnt know the answer), and later Kabyl figured out to change the new scheduler with an old scheduler (from 10.4.8 i think== may need correction)... Someone named this kernel golden, now people call it golden for no apparent reason... lol for that... Kabyl told to netkas (netkas is part of ToH team==team of hackintosh) about this issue and now netkas also knows the answer from Kabyl, and he embed the solution to ToH kernels (since 9.2.0) as well. Before Kabyl's kernel, nforce users needed to use cpu=1 flag in boot to be able to boot w/o kernel panic... @tuck: I explained this issue already on my post#2 regarding working on large files cause panic, caused by 4gb or more memory. Solution to this is to run the system with 2gb only memory by physically using 2gb or limiting by using maxmem flag... No other solution... The Medevil Test driver is the same test driver from medevil's topic. Nothing new about it. The real solution to this problem will be to recompile the driver for 64 bit functioning, or rebuild the driver with 64 bit in mind... The problem exists on intel chipsets as well if the additional jmicron controller is enabled... It has the same effect of nforce @cigar: Locking at reboot sometimes happen when you are rebooting from windows. I cant recall why but it must be related to bios to not release some information or some part of ram being kept some information regarding bios by windows. Better to shutdown first and power on the computer again. I used to have that issue sometimes in nforce chipset, guess what i sometimes have similar issue but not at boot, at network driver. It doesnt get an ip address manually or auto, if i reboot from windows and switch to osx... It doesnt happen always but it does occasionally... @everyone: I am still working on the update package, and i can assure you it is not very easy to work with non standard package... damn thing is so big and so many damn scripts for just copying and deleting some files... would have been much easier to simplify some of the scripts but no.. apple hang on there I will try to finish it, in the mean time, I need an experience NVIDIA user to help me get gfx strings for various cards/models so I can add these. As some of you already know that old nvinjects dont work with this update hence QE will not work... (Anyone with proper knowledge enlighten me with the files and necessary information so I can add these to update package...) Bad News: I have one bad news as well, if you are on iAtkos R3 it means gfx string will not work due to different efi being used in the bootloader which doesnt support gfx strings, so you either will need to manually apply the efi v8 by netkas, or totally new install with Kalyway 10.5.2... At worst, if you dont wanna change/install Kalyway, you will need to wait a little while until new nvinjects comes out that supports 10.5.3 update...
