Help....

I woke this morning after installing 2-Finger scrolling and then deleting something to find my mouse too fast and unstable. I slowed the mouse down and shut off 2 finger scrolloing and also deleted the package icon from the install package and cannot find the 2-Finger program now to see if its a setting in there.

Worse yet though, I can't get sound from my m1330. I read earlier with the 9228 zip installed I need to delete the AzaliaAudio kext. How would I do this? Thoughts on getting this sound working would be nice as it is my only sticky point from staying with this OS.

Thanks ahead...

I'm not sure what steps you need to follow for sound as my 1720 is different but to delete the azaliaaudio open your mac drive on your desktop open your system folder then your extension folder and scroll down to the kext file and drag it to the trash can. You'll need to enter your password and it will be gone.

To the ones who had missed it earlier in the thread, thanks to Lenka-Penka, there is now an easy way to set up Dell laptops to boot Vista/XP with OSx86 using the Dell MediaDirect button to boot Leo and Power button to boot Vista or XP. It is highly efficient and just plain kool! It also keeps your first partition active at all times, and Vista apparently LOVES to be active. In my experience, first primary partition on the HD has to remain active to avoid various OS/Boot related issues, perhaps this is due to the fact that MBR resides on the first partition.

Lenka-Penka has an excellent guide on such implementation at this address which also sheds some light on the root of the "HFS+ Partition Error":

By the way, neither Acronis Disk Director nor Macdrive is required or even needed, the free Ubuntu live CD works perfectly. It can be easily downloaded from the Ubuntu site.

Hey peepz from insanelymac,

have been reading this topic for a while and decided to give it a try on my Dell XPS m1530. I installed via Kalyway 10.5.2 - i tried iAtkos before but failed miserabely :D

But now Kalyay 10.5.2 is running on my XPS guess what, in my language, nl Dutch...

The problems are like reported before:

- no shutdown and restart

- no usb recognition unless it's plugged in at boot

- no sound (but that is probabely easy to fix with the info from Macgirl)

- some programs like Photoboot for instance crash easily

I would not mind installing with iAtkos again, but my home language on my lap is pretty handy :)

Is there any progress in solving these problems?

Macgirl, thank you very much for your efforts! the community loves you

Ok... Dont know what happened but I went to move a kext file to the garbage bin and I get this strange sound.... sounds working.

I picture this file yelling "No No I will work for you!!!"

So now I have sound...and for some reason my mouse is working fine again....and then someone pops up a link to a thread that tells me exactly what I want, to use mac on my mediaDirect key.

It's going to be a great day.

I just hope now there is no complications moving this over to a ssd.

Which brings me to a quesion... arent macs able to utilize windows programs now? Did I not here a few years ago that OSX tackled both Mac and IBM programs? Can it be done?

I would like to make an exact backup and move it over to a ssd.

Oh and next question...Is there a way to decide which sound is used for where like in Vista (ie expand/reduce/close)

I also have a problem shutting down as it closes the kernel but not the computer.

USB works with the Superhai's AppleUSBEHCI found at the TOP of this thread, the very first Macgirl's post. Sound works with the prepatched STAC9882, also found at the exactly same place. Crashing is most likely caused by the incompatible kernel.

From Kalyway 10.5.2 readme: "Even if you have chosen a kernel at install, you can still try the others kernels after installation ! (same thing for dvd boot except that only modbinkernel , speedstepkernel , kabylkernel and nforcekernel are available as boot options !)"

All you have to do is just press F8 at Darwin's prompt and then type the kernel's name you want to boot with :

sleepkernel (intel/amd/sse2/sse3)

speedstepkernel (intel/amd/sse2/sse3)

nforcekernel (intel/sse3)

modbinkernel (intel/amd/sse3)

vanillakernel (intel/sse3)

kabylkernel (intel/sse3) with sleep support"

OK...no sound again... frustrating but...enjoyable!

EDIT: Would one suggest a reinstal with no sound drivers and then follow the advise MacGirl gave and instal the 9228 drivers (kexts) after the fact? Could this be my problem is that there is a conflict I can't find?

EDIT: OK reinstalled with no sound drivers selected from Leo4AllV3 and then installed 9228 kext x 2 from the first page after the fact for STAC 9228 which this system contains...NO LUCK!

On ssd.... It give anything for sound!

Which procedure to install the STAC 9228 did you follow exactly? Via terminal? If so, did you repair the permissions afterwards? Or was it the Kexthelper b7? I find that deleting those kexts first is better than simply overwriting them. Again, they must be deleted properly! If you just slammed them into your extension folder, then you did it incorrectly. Which kernel are you using by the way?

Thank you for the offer to help. I am on my umpteenth re-install.

I installed this time trying the AzeusAudio kext. Its HD from what I saw when looking in my properties...and it never worked. I just went into extensions and deleted it.

Previously, I had downloaded STAAC9228.zip from page 1 on the advise of MacGirl and installed them with KB7 and restarted a few times..no luck.

Can you assist? Anything would be appreciated. This bump is keeping me from starting my VistaUlt64/Leopard x86 dual boot system.

I am using the new Leo4allV3 installation by the way. This is my second day even looking at a Mac and I'm learning quick.

Im a Windows junkie...but there is not much challenge there anymore

Ok..one added prob which I know will affect dualboot later. When I restart or shutdown Mac, it closes all but falls short of shutting the system off. I have noticed the fan, bluetooth and light on still indicating a full shutdown isnt complete. It doesnt go any further.

Sound is one of the most tricky parts.

1 remember that sound is in experimental stage.

2 sound could come after several or repeatedly boots or after put the system to sleep and wake.

3 sound could come from different source, not alway are the speakers, sometimes on the first headphones jack, sometimes of the second headphones jack, and sometimes even on the mic jack.

4 AppleAzalia.kext is not always installed, depends with which DVD you installed, but if exist always makes the patched AppleHDA.kext to fail.

5 the behaivor of sound chan change if you booted on other OS previously.

Hi everyone!!! I am new to this website. The Osx86 project has caught my attention recently and I am thinking about getting involved. I just happen to be in the market for a laptop and the m1330 has caught my eye, however the lure of OSX is drawing me towards a macbook. I was curious just how stable can I expect OSx86 to be on the m1330 and how is it comparable in speed to a macbook? Other than the power down and bluetooth issues can I expect a fairly integrated experience with the purchase of the addition wifi card? Could someone post bench results please? Thanks much!

Morning All....question for the masses if I may...

I have 3 partitions, these being Leopard/Vista and Data.

How do I configure Mac so that my home folder (that with my name on it) automatically is set to be in the data partition? This is a FAT partition which I want both OS's to default to in the end.

My m1330 DellOSX (lol) runs extremely well and pretty rock-solid stable. Aside from the semi-functional sound, restart/shutdown/sleep, its nearly perfect. I was showing it off to several of the die-hard mac guys at work. Each was amazed!! It runs VERY fast too boot.

Can you send me the link for Battery meter? Also, what are you using for sound kexts?

There are no drivers for 10.4.5

Possibly only the audio driver will work but I doubt it, maybe on 10.4.8, Video Drivers only for 10.5 - 10.5.2

:( i've got a lil question: (well 2)

If i replace the wifi minipci for another one will it void the warranty? (i've got the accident completecare thing for one year too). In case i can...which one should i get?

Lately i'm having some kernel panics with leopard, mostly when shutting down (yes i know that shutdown doesn't works but never did a kernel panic)...someone had this problem too?

Edit: Third question :) about battery, does osx consume more battery than XP/Linux/Vista (i've got some strange thing going with the battery....Vista consumes less than XP and Linux, and i haven't tried osx on battery too much)

Mini PCI-E is user replaceable part, it won't void your warranty.

Kernel panics is not common, should be from your installation.

It will consume more battery unless you have speedstep kernel (can't sleep with this kernel) and speedstep running.

I'd like also to know if it's possible to have 2airport cards inside the DELL. I mean that I have a Intel 4965 but I've bought a DELL 1505 which is coming home by mail so I'd like to know if I will have to replace my old Intel 4965 (not supported in OS x) by my DELL 1505?

I'd prefer to have both cards because I've read that the intel is better than the Dell so it could be better for Vista

You can put the Dell 1505 WLAN Card into the second WWLAN (I think) mini PCI-E slot and use the Black and Grey jumper cables. This is exactly what I did after I nagged this card out of Dell, and I now have two WLAN cards, both are recognized and usable under Vista. Also, I am getting much better speeds with this card under both Vista and Leo as compared to 4965AGN and any USB dongle I've ever used with Leo. My downstrem speed is up to around 15,000 kbps versus literally half of that, using the same Comcast service with Netgear wireless router; the upstream is the same, around 2,000 kbps. If you want the Vista to use the new card, after the drivers for it are installed, make sure to DISABLE to original Intel WLAN card as it seems to be the only way to force windows to actually use the new component to connect, perhaps due to it being a secondary WLAN card. I'm thinking about just using the 1505 as a primary WLAN card, inserting it into the first mini PCI slot, and the 4965 into the second. I don't know if that would make any difference at all, I'm really not sure what I would possibly need the Intel card for, perhaps it is best to just trash it to eBay for pennies.

Yes you can buy diretly from Dell, there are no two WLAN slots, there are TWO min PCI-E slots, one used for WLAN an the other for WWAN (AKA Wireless Modem, like cellular)

If you open the cover of the wireless card you can see that they are labeled as WLAN and WWAN.

EDIT:

Here is the manual page for the Wireless acces on M1330:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/syst...d.htm#wp1180236

theanine, where you able to keep mediadirect fully functional after installing osx if so how? I'm curious as to how to do this on my M1530.
