I want to give a shout out to everyone, esp MacGirl, for opening my eyes to the Mac! I've been a Mac-hater for way to long!

Dell M1330 triple boot with XP SP2, Ubuntu 8.0.4, Mac OS X 10.5.2

T9300 Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB ram - BOTH cores work

128MB Nvidia GeForce 8400M - Works

Dell Wireless 1505 - Works

Sound - Intermittent Working

Kbd/Touchpad - Works

Battery - Works

Sleep/Shutdown/Restart - NOT working

I used iAtkos 1.0 r2 + 10.5.2 update + full Apple upgrade (TM too)

I am having no luck with my Dell Inspiron 1525. My only problems with this machine is sound/video. I follow all the directions and I get a black screen in which i have to unplug wait 10 minutes before I can see anything. Sound works after the first reboot and then it never works again. What am I doing wrong that I cant get sound and video to work.

You can use the sleepdisplay.app as login items

on some computers only the with first boot they have sound, on some other only after several reboots.

Maybe your only works with cold boots.

Okay I found the sleep app and followed the instructions. When it boots up my desktop is different. and doesnt work at all. Update: System freezes up right after boot. No good doesnt work.

Hi,

I've a problem with my vostro.

When I look in "About My Mac" I can see that I've only a 1.6GHZ intel core 2 duo processor instead of 2.4 normally. I've already seen 2.4 so I think something has changed.

I remember that I've installed a program which would manage my processor but it didn't work so I've deleted it. Unfortunately, I don't remember its name, somebody on this topic recommended it, maybe its name was a kind of "notebook cool ..."

Do you know how to solve this problem and have my 2.4ghz processor working?

Furthermore, I'd like to know if I've 1 or 2 processors in my lappy? Mac says me 1 but I'm not sure about this. If I have 2, what is the problem?

Thanks for your help

EDIT: I've found the name: COOLBOOK

I have tested this application on my vostro 1700 (c2duo t8300, 2go ram, 160 @7200tr/min ...)

If I start the computer directly on the battery, instead of 2.4ghz, since I have installed this application, this command: sysctl -a | grep freq tell me that my t8300 is @ 1.6

But if I put the computer on the sector, the cpu remains at 1.6

If I start the computer directly on the sector, my cpu is at 2.4ghz, but if I put the computer on the battery (I remove the power cable), my cpu remains at 2.4ghz

Can I have my cpu at 1.6 when I am on the battery and 2.4 when I am on sector (without the speedstep kernel and without restart my computer)?

Thanks

Nicolas

It's exactly the problem I've got.

Did you find a solution?

Hi there,

I have a new m1330 and would like to install OSX 10.5x. I have both iAtkos 1.0i and 1.0ir2 as well as Kalyway. Can anyone point me to instructions that show me exactly how I can dual boot vista and OSX on the m1330? I have tried by using the Dell Recovery partition and I got OSX installed, but I don't understand anything about EFI or bootloaders etc and I have had missing operating system error and flashing cursor etc. I read in macgirl's OP something about having to remove an nvidia kext but I don't know how to do this.

If anyone has stumbled across good dual booting installation instructions that work for m1330, please let me know. I'm really looking for instructions that start at the very beginning of the process too, so I know how to effectively partition the drives etc...

I did find this:

http://www.daryl.mu/2008/03/05/howto-tripl...d-media-direct/

but it has been created for a linux/vista/media direct install.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Cheers

ok...

For the assistance of Macgirl or any other if I may.

Brilliant site and I just set my M1330 up with Leo4allV3 with very little problems at all. Video, BT, wifi and everything seems to be working great!

I set it up on a single drive just to 'get to know' the installation and will know move up to getting it into a dual boot system with Vista Ultimate, hopefully 64Bit.

Couple questions if I may...

1. On completing the registration it requires you to register and I am going to guess sends this info in as wifi then confirmed which I did (NOT). Is this normal?

2. Will I be able to dual boot Vista Ult 64Bit with Leo x86?

3. SSD....any complications with this? I wouldn't think so as my system is running Leo in AHCI with no prob.

4. Should I concern myself with automatic updating? Would this cause me any legal concerns down the road? Do they track people through this or registration submission ip?

Just to let you know that my M1330 died this morning.

well is not dead, I was doing some test with the Firefire in XP and the screen get garbled, then I reboot and I ran the Daignostics, when running the memory test the screen get garbled again.

After several reboots I connected the external monitor and see that sometimes it presents the darwin boot menu but some garbled.

So I guess the Graphic card or the memory of the graphic card is damaged somehow.

Fortunately the company bought it with extended waranty (so even spill coffe on it is covered).

Also with some of the adjustments in my department I will have one of the Mac Pros that one of the designers was using.

I hope that Dell repair the M1330 fast.

Im sitting here waiting to move on...excited yes...

Anyone that can answer this???

I don't understand #1.

Yes you can dual boot with Vista (32 or 64), or any other OS. I have quadruple boot.

SSD for Leopard (or windows) is no different than normal HD.

Before make any automatic update check this site, it will warn you if something will not run.

Normally Application an security updates has no harm, but again check first.

I you installed PC EFI and you are running with Vanilla Kernel just keep in mind that you still have some modded kexts, like AppleHDA, AppleSMBIOS, AppleACPIPlatform (maybe others) so if you update which contains any of those you probably end with not working device or a kernel panic.

Thank you,

I am writing from my new Leo4AllV3 as we speak. I muct say this OS is very different.

Regarding question #1...

When my installation completed, I was brought to a screen where I had 3 options to which I chose #3 and was sent to a registration screen to create my Mac account. I completed the registration and had to submit personal information (NOT) before I was allowed to continue. It then thanked me, let me choose my internet connection and stated it was sending the information to Apple. Is this normal?

Also, if I can ask...because you have a M1330 as well MacGirl, what audio driver did you use? I chose the 92** initially and it does not show any sound input or output devices and I have no sound. Can I somehow fix this rather than reinstalling?

Similarly, I chose the proper graphics drivers for the NVidia 8xxx series yet my only option for a screen is 1024x768. Is this normal?

And likewise.... Ricoh sd driver not available I bet? As well, can i somehow get my webcam software installed?

Thanks in advance. Can I pm you...is that possible on this site?

EDIT... Also what would you recommend for a bootloader and also, we have the same system apparently so would you advise my selection of more appropriate drivers on the install (ie Vanilla ).

One last question... can I just reduce my partition on my 64bit system, create a Fat32 partition and go from there installing this os? Would that be a start?

Yes is normal, every new install ask for account and registration.

You can use Darwin or Vista bootloaders, I prefer Darwin (there is a guide from Devilhood's for dual boot, it has nice tips to recover from errors).

Don't install the Graphics Drivers from Leo4ALL some of us had no luck, better instal any of the packages listend in the first post or with Leopard graphics update 1.0 (but install NVinject before yo reboot or the sytem will end in a black screen). When you install thosee drivers but didn't install an injector (ie NVinject or Natit) those drivers can see the graphics card, so that's why you are getting 1024x768 only).

The audio and other drivers can be installed many times, no need to reinstall the whole system again and again, MS has acoustomed users to that, (I never reinstalled the whole system btw). When a driver fails you can boot in single user mode and delete them, if the driver even cause a non boot system, you can boot with the installartion DVD and delete from there.

We have no driver for the card reader yet, since none of the real Macs have one, not even for Darwin, maybe is a good project for a developer.

Yes you can PM me but I prefer to anwser in the forum so other users benefit from that, also as moderator I have a lot of PMs, regularly I respond fast when I'm not busy, but for those that didn't write a message on the board I left their messages for later.

Thank you.

I must say one thing about this whole project that amazes me is widgets! I have never, before today, even seen this OS and am absolutely addicted to the widget abilities.

I will thank you for the help and plug away a bit at a time. I am still working on the hd that only has this OS and will move dual boot my 64 bit Vista once comfortable.

I will delete the viseo drivers that are here and go to the beginning for the proper ones. Thank you again.

Hi, I will appreciate some help for a newbie in the OSX86 world. I recently got interested in the OSX86 and bought a Dell XPS M1530 to try it out. I've been reading the forum and today decided to go ahead and install OS X. However, I got stuck right at the first step. I can't create a new partition to install OS X in. I used Paragon Partition Manager but it says my drive C already has 4 primary partitions, which is the maximum. can someone help me with this? TIA

Your initial Dell laptop is partitioned as such and Vista only allows a maximum of 4 logical partitions. These are the boot (I believe) Mediadirect, C: and... if I remember correctly, your recovery partition.

You need to free up a partition and then format ot to Fat or Fat 32. I think your system also came as an NTFS file system which is not recognizeable by Mac.

My advise...do a Clean install and then set up for a dual boot.

Fortunately the company bought it with extended waranty (so even spill coffe on it is covered).

Also with some of the adjustments in my department I will have one of the Mac Pros that one of the designers was using.

Good for you MacGirl, I may try MBP someday also. A few days ago I bought a MacBook but decided to sell it off the next day since the screen is quite small for me. For now still happily living with my so called MacDell (Mac on Dell 1520 :D ), the specs is like MBP and the screen is big also, just one shortcoming, I have to use VESA since I need to reboot quite a lot ;) the rest is superb ;)

hallo!

first of all: congratulations. this project is great!

long time i could not decide wether buying a macbook or a pc and installing osx. now i decided to buy a dell 1330. iw will be the one with nvidia graphik, 2.4ghz, 4gb ram, led-backlight screen. the only os i will install is osx

before i start installing, i have a few questions

wich package of osx is the best for the 1330? iatkos, leo4allv3 or something other?

is there something important i must now before i install it? or just put the dvd inside and klick okay?

is the fixed osx on the m1330 as fast and as stable as a normal windows? and will the battery work as long as normal?

whats about the wifi-fix?

it would be fine of you to answer a few question s

greets

hei guys,

I am pretty new in the area of installing and using the mac os, so i tried with the latest version 3 of leo4all. everything went fine till it reached the part of choosing where to put the instalation. I chosed the Disk Utility and it showed me only my optical drive. I rummaged the forums and couldn't find anything that would help me, would you? my pc is Inspiron 1501 HDD-Samsung HM080HI ATA-80GB; ACPI x86-based PC; CPU -AMD TL-50 - SSE, SSE2, SSE3; ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 256MB; Dell™ Wireless 1390 802.11b/g. Thank you
