Buying a new PC for running iATKOS (Leopard)

Hi everyone,

I'm new in this forum, and it seems like a great cummunity, so here's my first step of moving to OSX:

I'm buying a whole new PC, and I would like to know if the hacked Leopard (iATKOS) Operation system will work for me:

PU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L

Hard Drive: Western Digital WD3200AAKS 320GB

RAM: Kingston 2GB (2X1GB) 667Mhz DDR2 CL5

Graphics Card: Your Choice, just make sure it supports High Definition 1080p

Will it work?

Thanks in advance.

That hardware should work well. Check the WiKi for supported video cards.

Thanks for your reply.

I've check the wiki, and i found that none of the ATI HD series' card is listed, but older cards don't support HD movies, and I need that.

Should I only choose cards that are listed in the wiki?

Thanks in advance.

Just go buy a Mac Pro. You won't have to worry about hacking your machine to make it run and you'll have full support from Apple if anything goes wrong. ;)

With my budget, all I can get is a Mini Mac, which is not as good as that PC that I built..

Besides, I'm a gamer, so I can't throw windows completely away.. I still need it, and I also have never tried OSX\Mac, so It's stupid to buy the best at the first time. :)

It's like starting driving with a Mercedes..

I still dont understand the difference between the different versions of patched Leo on the internet. Most have alot of drivers built in so alot of hardware is supported "out of the box", right? And the differences are just between the kernel, methods of patching I suppose.

And if all of your hardware is supported you only need to do very minimal stuff yourself, such as making the hard drive formated correctly and some stuff during install. Right?

Buy a mac, buying a PC to run hackintosh is just wrong. Only use hackintosh if you are poor / dont have the money to buy a new system. and by looking at your specs, you dont seem to be out of pocket

Kiko,

There's no arguing about the fact that a real Mac (Book, Mini, Pro, whatever) will run OSX better than a Hackintosh solution, but I need Windows a lot more than I need OSX.

I'm making electronic music, so I need a good system, but the main problem is that if I will buy a Mac (no matter which one), I will have to switch to another audio sequencer\editor, and that's not really something I want to do.

This is what I'm planning to do:

Buying the PC that I've detailed in the main post, Installing Leopard (iATKOS) and Vista\XP (Haven't decided yet, but it doesn't really matter), and then, this is how I'm gonna use them:

Because the Leopard is much more secured against viruses (almost no viruses at all, as I've understood), and there are plenty of viruses for Windows, so I will use XP\Vista for making music and all that audio stuff, and will create a second account for games, and I will use Leopard for Internet surfing, movies, etc..

Mac, for me, means no music making and gaming.

Everyone just get what they need the most..

Yes. I have found Kalyway the easiest to install. Both iAtkos and Kalyway work OK with with my hardware, but Kalyway is smoother.

iATKOS, and now KalyWay?

I've already burned the patched iATKOS (r2)..

Should I get KalyWay? would it be better for the system I'm planning to buy?

As I have already said, both are good. The original iATKOS was a bit more difficult to install. No idea about the patched one. As always, it will also depend on your hardware.

Yeah, get a real Mac. The iMacs aren't all that expensive, it seems as though you could afford one. You can run windows "natively" with boot camp, no hacks. But if you insist on a compatible hackintosh that can handle lots of games, get a geforce 7900gs or more expensive, 8800gt.

I don't know what is the iMac's price where u live, but in my country, I can't get one with that budget.

In the price of the cheapest iMac, I can get the above PC, plus an ESI Julia audio card, a Samson S-Amp headphone amplifier, a Samsung 226BW LCD Screen, and a WOLFKING Trooper Gaming mouse.

Need I say more? :D

All the Apple products here are so overpriced, that they don't even worth consideration, unless u aren't on a budget. Is there someone here who isn't on a budget when buying a computer? nah..

Oh, by the way, I'm a gamer, so I really need windows.

OSX is just a bonus..

My girlfriends first car was a merc and my first computer was a mac.

You've come on here looking all flashy and {censored} and its quite sad really.

Get your super new computer so u can play games and watch high res porn and use your old comp to install kalyway or iatkos.

Or even better get a mac, get vmware fusion and enjoy the best of both worlds, a computer operating system that works and the ability to run windows apps.

What the hell is wrong with you people. He wants to build a hackintosh... he has said he wants to build a hackintosh... so either don't post or help him find the right parts for his hackintosh.... there is no reason you guys should be coming down on him for asking for help with a hackintosh build, on a site that is dedicated to osx86...

This is what frustrates me the most about you people... he doesn't want to dive into the mac world... he is just testing the waters...

You guys are the ones that give the osx86 community a bad taste... so shut your fricken mouths..

now to help you...

I didn't see a gpu on there what did you have in mind? i've seen people using 9800gt's :D and the 8800gt's are also a good option (you seem like your more into gaming then me...)

what are the apple employees doing in this forum.

Dont buy a mac, dont support over priced Intel resellers.

I'm all for buying OSX but not a mac.

They are not better, they are over priced and not worth the money.

This forum is dedicated to OSx86 not selling Apple Products.

I just built a new computer and picked the mobo just for a hackintosh.

I need OSX for testing. I will not buy a mac and I refuse to support

Steve Jobs and his closed source applications. However, I am not

a thief therefore I will actually pay for an OSX install disk.

I will never understand why people pay the huge markups for Intel

products when the are enclosed in a mac shell. Mac's are nothing

more then a status symbol.

How is he looking flashy, Im building alot better computer then he is.

Plus look at all the I7 guys in here.

Flashy would be a $1500 or more computer, not a $500 base build.

A Mac mini is a joke and wont really do anything better then surfing the web.

He is doing to best thing for the buck.

Dude, your system is fully supported and you can use iAtkos or Kalway.

The deciding factor is your skill level. Kalway is very, very simple to install.

As for a graphics card get a Geforce 8800 or 9600

both are fully supported in OSX and Linux

just stay away from ati. I know they can be made to work but not as easily.

Sorry you seem to being picked on.

This forum is normally a lot more receptive and I for

one am disappointed in the way you are being treated.

Die zombie thread! Die! heh.

Anyway, I hope the OP didn't listen to the fanboi conformists and got that rig. The blazing irony is, that P35-DS3L system will STILL -nearly a year later- run the retail OSX with the latest updates, bench higher and perform as well or better than any overpriced iMac or Mini from Apple that he would have paid more for. I've built several P35-DS3L builds for people that even though the hardware is supposedly 'old' for the PC world, they still outclass everything from Apple other than the dual Xeon MacPro- which of course costs over 3x as much. I've had these machines running for months on end without a restart, so they're proven as stable as it gets.

The Apple conformists simply don't know what the hell they're talking about, and give rotten advice, then, as now.

InsanelyMac is a community for those interested in the very latest news about Apple's Macintosh computers and OS X.

Above is an extract from "About Us" in OSx Project. For those who flamed the first post, what did he do wrong? If you don't like "hackintosh" why bother to join this forum.
