A quick update on my system:

I just installled this NVInstaller V.3.1

And.... Woooohoooo!!!!

Got my 8800 GTS 512Mb working fine! :)

No more freezing retouching in iPhoto or Photoshop!!!!

Still have to test Final Cut, but it's looking great so far!!

Only thing letf is Wireless and I should have a 100% working editing station :D:D:D

Thanks a lot for all your help guys.

@Weaksauce, A big thanks to you again man!!! I'm so happy with my system!

The USB Wifi stick that I got from eBay was a dud (didn't work at ALL) and the seller went out of business, so I got hosed on that transaction :P I'd say go with tuukka H's recommendation and get a Buffalo WLI2. Ecost has it for under $50:

http://www.ecost.com/detail.aspx?edp=24909...;ci_sku=2490960

Thanks guys, will see if I can find that one here in Australia. :-)

This is normal when you've activated the secondary controller but don't have any hard drives hooked up to it. The secondary one is the Marvell/Blue-Red connectors. So that error message is not the source of your problems.

Try moving the HD to one of the other black connectors...

thankx for the reply,

well ok, this is because the hdd is not bootable ?

i hope weaksauce made a single disc install soon, because the last fews days i spent many time trying many combinations but without success so far...

i still investigate...

If someone didnt notice. Check this out:

Answer to the hackintosh thing with geekbench. I have to try if it works with BA2.

Edit: Dont install! Issues with sleep and other stuff..

using the new AppleSMBIOS.kext does take an extra 2 mins to start up and a weird circle dash(the kind you see ona no smoking sign) shows up on load...use at your own discretion.

post-163052-1201581043_thumb.png

well,

is there something missing in the weaksauce guide ?

no success so far , i've followed line by line..

with the kalyway cd 'make hd bootable for Leopard' , disk utility cannot format the HDD,

unmount it and name it disk0s1, (there no options nor mount blue button or context menu)

Then i tried the DVD Kalyway 10.5.1, here it allow partition the HDD but only in GUID, when i try MBR it fails, so after the GUID partitionning it install correctly Leo but no make the HDD bootable,

then i've the "no bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key" , i've followed the USB stick terminal command but same result, the HDD isn't bootable !

WTF ?

spent so many time for no result is a pain :-(

why there not a hassle-free single DVD with included scripts to avoid hand-made errors in terminal scripting and allow format/install/efi/make bootable hd/ ?

well,

is there something missing in the weaksauce guide ?

Nope, works completely. How is your maschine setup in BIOS regarding disks? how many HDs do you have in your rig?

Are you really in disk utility when after you started with kalyway make bootable? You must go to the menu and choose disk utility to format your drive. It's all like written in the guide...

Explain exactly at which step you didn't make progress, then we can sure help...

Still playing Disk_jockey with my system. After all i'm now with Eleven(!) HDs on my System...(roughly 4TB) ;)

Today i stuffed the second fast, true Hardware-RAID-Controller RocketRAID 3120 in my system and just for fun and speed added a second WD Raptor 150 GB, so i have two fast 10.000 RPM Raptors as RAID 0 on this speedy controller. As done before i cloned my 250 GB Bootdisk with CopyCatX to the Raptor-RAID-Duo (280 GB, lost roughly 50 GB because of cloning, but this is ok for me).

So, it has worked again, i can now Boot from my Superfast RAID. xbench gave me 220,45 for my Boot-RAID :dev: , not that bad, and this is just at the normal 2,4GHz Speed of the Q6600, i will go back to 3 GHz after a break and thest new. :D

So, eleven HDs, 2 Highpoint RAID-Controllers, a fast and lean Boot-RAID and application-disk with 230 GB. This bootable RAID is backed up within under an hour to an external Disk with CCC, to make this external Disk again bootable i just have to manually add EFI 7/8 and set the partition bootable flag and i'm again in the game if something happens.

All User-Data and applications (only those who are not needed to install in the normal application folder) is on my second RAID 0 (2 x 500 GB). All critical data is backed up to a bunch of disks setup as a normal zfs-pool.

If you have a multi-disk system i highly recommend moving your home-directory to another disk. This Link tells you how and it's easy too, so nothing to loose.

It's really amazing what one can do with such a system, i couldn't be happier... (OK, those 4 marvell ports...*arghhh*).

Very nice! How did you manage to fit 11 hard drives in your V1000?

What would be the 1st fastest true-Hardware RAID Controller? How about the 3rd?

1. ?

2. Highpoint RocketRAID 3120

3. ?

The Raptors in RAID sound amazing, I was debating whether or not to do that (2 Raptors in RAID), or go SAS.

What kind of cooling do you have one your CPU? I'm interested.

ZFS+, I didn't know this filing system was used already. I last remember reading about ZFS was when Apple had interest in using this system in the future plans of Mac OS X. Isn't ZFS file system compatible with both PC and MAC? Right now I'm seeking a solution other than FAT32 and macfuse to share hard drives with both platforms.

Great post, I'm very interested in your setup, and hope to hear more from you, thanks for sharing ;)

Very nice! How did you manage to fit 11 hard drives in your V1000?

actually, there are only 8 inside of the V1000, the 9th is a 250 GB External WD MyBook Premium (backup for Bootdisk), Nr. 10 & 11 are 2 external Bricks via eSata connected to the HighPoint RocketRAID 2302's external eSATA-Ports.

The V1000 gives you actually 6 Slots for HDs, but i have extended it with this Kit to give me 3 more Slots for HDs.

I have 2 RAID Controllers from HighPoint, a 2302, and the new "True Hardware RAID" (Highpoint-Marketing-Speech) 3120.

Readable ZFS is there since Leopard, writable in beta since a few weeks in public, it has some rough edges (Issues with Finder, copying large collections of files and such), but it seems stable and usable. compatible with PC? Not that i know of, only thing you can do is use your zfs-drive readable on another leopard-maschine.

hi theotherone,

i've taken somes screens :

http://iwanttobe.free.fr/h/

(flash gallery)

-The Bios setup is the missing part of the guide :)

the HDD plugged in Sata 0 Black connector (tried in other ones change nothing)

DVD Drive is primer master in IDE Channel

see BIOS SCREEN

-with the Kalyway CD "Make Bootable HD for Leopard" (as weaksauce guide said...)

in disk utility, there no options MBR/GUID and the partitionning unmount the disk and discard the label "Leopard" for disk0s1

-with the Kalyway DVD "10.5.1"

Partionning with Disk utility is ok but MBR isn't allowed - only GUID - wich works fine and following install too, but the HDD isn't bootable, even if i copy files from USB Stick from terminal at reboot,

then what my options right now ??

thanks

Hey guys, what's all this jazz about the Kalyway Leopard 10.5.1 SSE2 SSE3 disc image release? Is it really only a one step install? Is it easier?

About to start the install, so I'm just wondering if I should try this instead.

Hey Daxv,

As no one answered yet, I'll try to give you hint.

Please take in account that I'm no expert here (at all). So here's something for you to try.

I'd say that the problem you're having is in the first step using the Kalyway preparation CD, because when you're installing it, it shows the disk icon in orange (which I think means removable drive). You should be seeing a gray drive (like a HDD).

I'm in the office at the moment, and can't check it in the computer to tell you exactly how I did.

- Boot with the prep CD and instead of using the options on the right, try accessing them by right clicking in the HDD 931.5 icon you have on the left.

- Try deleting the whole partition and starting from scratch from there.

Don't proceed to installation using KALYWAY 10.5.1 until you get this right. I mean it SHOULD accept the formatting (by default is MBR) and the label.

- After you click continue, it SHOULD ask you to make this disk bootable.

After that when you boot with the other DVD you should see the gray icon instead of the orange one.

I hope it helps mate.

Cheers

Hey whyphilosophy,

I used a mix. Only step 2&3 of weaksauce's guide were replaced by using the Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD, because I had a corrupted BrazilMac DVD.

I think that the Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD did all the patching in step 3 of the guide because I didn't have to do all that for the system to work. Then I continued with the guide to install drivers.

I found this process to be much easier because no terminal commands and patching were necessary.

In summary, this is what worked for me:

From weaksauce's guide

Step 1 - same (Formatting the hard drive using the Kalyway prep CD)

Step 2 - Boot with Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD and install with all the options disabled except for:

a- Vanilla Kernel ACPI platform (some people reprted it worked for them - I didn't tick this)

b- BOOT EFI MBR

Step 3 - SKIP

Step 4 - Same

@Weaksauce:

I hope you don't mind my comments above (just trying to help)

Can you tell me if what I just said is correct??

Am I missing something by installing the system this way?

I hope it helps.

cheers

Hey Daxv,

As no one answered yet, I'll try to give you hint.

thanks to take time to answer me,

i will prefer share my Geekbench rather than boring everybody with my troubles..

I'd say that the problem you're having is in the first step using the Kalyway preparation CD, because when you're installing it, it shows the disk icon in orange (which I think means removable drive). You should be seeing a gray drive (like a HDD).

well, in the BIOS when you configure :

Configure SATA as IDE -> Grey Hard disk

Configure SATA as AHCI -> Orange Hard disk (removable)

- Boot with the prep CD and instead of using the options on the right, try accessing them by right clicking in the HDD 931.5 icon you have on the left.

When i right-click : i have only the following options : infos/SOS/ERASE/RAID/Restore

when the disk is labeled disk0s1 and unmounted, there no right-clic to mount it and the blue button in the menu bar is unable to mount it (i even try by terminal "diskutil mount disk0s1" and terminal said the disk is mounted but when i go back into disk utility the disk appear unmounted/unchanged...weird

then i decide to erase entirely (zeroing) the HDD (take 2 hours) : result, it change nothing :-((

why disk utility refuse to label correctly and unmount the disk ??? make me crazy..

Try deleting the whole partition and starting from scratch from there.

Don't proceed to installation using KALYWAY 10.5.1 until you get this right. I mean it SHOULD accept the formatting (by default is MBR) and the label.

- After you click continue, it SHOULD ask you to make this disk bootable.

Cheers

as the disk is unmounted, i cannot choose the volume where install the "enjoy" package of Kalyway CD..

I really don't understand why the Kalyway DVD 10.5.1 partition correctly (GUID Only) and install fine but doesn't make bootable the hard disk...

experts advices welcome :-)

Hey all, been crazy busy at work, sorry for the recent lack of communication! My Griffin iMic showed up ($30 USB sound card) and works GREAT. It has Stereo Output and Mic Input plus a selector switch for Line Level input or Mic Input. The keyboard volume adjustment WORKS, I am pleased to say! It also comes with a stereo RCA adapter so you can hook it up to receiver or stereo. Here is the Newegg link:

I am on a heavy project at work and am working late for the next 10 days or so, so I won't be in much. Revision 2 is done, I just have to finish up some documentation. I should have that up in the next day or two, sorry for the lateness!

experts advices welcome :-)

Sorry mate, it looks like I'm the only one here.... :(

thanks to take time to answer me,

well, in the BIOS when you configure :

Configure SATA as IDE -> Grey Hard disk

I assume you updated your BIOS right?

In mine, I have:

Advanced/Drive Configuration

-----------------------------

Use Automatic mode: [ENABLE]

ATA/IDE Mode: [Legacy]

SMART: [ENABLE]

....

HARD DISK Pre-Delay: [0]

BOOT

-----

Boot Menu Type: [NORMAL]

Boot Device Priority: [CD/DVD-ROM]

[HDD]

HARD DRIVE ORDER: [1st the drive you want to boot from] ;-)

(I have 4 drives so this step is important in my config. Wrong drive setup here causes my machine not to boot)

.....

Boot to optical devices: [ENABLE]

Boot to Removable devices: : [ENABLE]

.....

When i right-click : i have only the following options : infos/SOS/ERASE/RAID/Restore

It must be a BIOS setting then....

When I right click I have

Information

First Aid

Erase

Partition

RAID

Restore

So, when I click on Partition, I can choose:

- 1 Partition

- Fromat (Mac OS Extended (journaled)

I'd suggest you make the changes to the BIOS SETUP and see if that makes any difference.

I hope this helps mate

Sorry mate, it looks like I'm the only one here.... :P

fortunately there someone..

I assume you updated your BIOS right?

right :

-configure SATA as IDE

And the only one different from your setup :

ATA/IDE Mode: [Legacy] (was Native for me)

But it change Nothing for me :( ,

with the Kalyway CD "Make Bootable HD For Leopard",

there no "Partition" in context menu right click

Something (or Someone : Devil itself maybe) doesn't want i format in MBR,

when i try with Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD , Partitionning is allowed in GUID (fails for MBR)

and install is fine, but i need to make the Partition active and the HD Bootable manually,

i think i 've make the partition active via command in terminal, because now i've black screen with the blinking underscore, but there also a problem with the startupfiletool wich refuse to copy...

ARRRGH.... :) i feel like a F :( Looser

I hope this helps mate

No this time but thanks for the effort :-)

What about using only a external usb dvd-r drive to install?

I plan on doing this as my internal drive is cd-r and IDE, and the hard drives I have to use for OSX are sata.

would it be the bios that has to see the drive external drive to boot from it?

fortunately there someone..

Sorry, I don't know what else to do :-(

Maybe you can try sending a PM to Weaksauce or theotherone, they might be able to help you.

@daxv: sorry, i am late, but i struggled with my RAID-Setup and Migration, i hav some ideas for you, but first must read completely your messages, in a few hours i will respond with details.

seya soon...

@daxv: Sorry for being late!

So, your screens look OK so far, your problem seems to be with formatting your hdd in MBR.

DVD on IDE is OK for install and works very well. You install to a sata-drive, right?

HDD on black sata is OK

check your BIOS Version but it doesn't look like a BIOS-Problem.

HDDs configure as IDE in BIOS (AHCI might work too, but you get the orange icons).

To go fast to success now i would recommend to use the 10.5.1 Kalyway DVD and install new complete with MBR, this works in one step without doing something in the terminal, but consider this after the DVD is loaded and you go first to Disk utility (in the menu) to prepare your drive:

On Partitioning your Drive: I would recommend (to have at least one time success with installing) to make just one partition, under "options" make sure you used "MBR" as Partitiontype for your HDD, if your'e not allowed to Format in MBR then format the whole drive first in MSDOS and/or other formats, directly after that you should be able to format it new with HFS(journaled) and MBR.

Hope that helps a bit. If this isn't possible then there must either a problem with your hd (try another) or with your install-dvd, i guess the hdd has something which woudn't let you do mbr, don't ask, its just guessing, you can also try to install to an external usb-hdd, this works also.

If this works and after you restarted imediately after the BIOS-Screen hit F10 and choose your HD to which you installed as boot-disk and hit enter, then your system starts. If you installed to a usb-drive make sure that you marked "boot first from usb" in the BOOT-Screen of the BIOS. Then, in case of usb-drive wait a minute or two it will load the darwin bootloader then, usb is a bit lame and takes a bit time to boot, in the case of the built-in sata-drive it should immediately boot the darwin bootloader.

Hope that helps abit, good luck! :D
