braid
My comments about the install and pos-install on my 3500+ /a8nsli se: 1- I had to install 10.4.9 first, then install the leopard to enable the darwin boot. Otherwise system hangs into the black screen of "please boot it please boot it " 2- had to install nvinject and edit the plists putting the ID of my nvidia 6600gt to have QE/CI enabled. 3- the nvidia lan only works with forcedeth and I had to buy a new 10/100 hub. - it did not work with my old 10/10 (it was working on the 10.4.9) 4- (and here it go what really got me pissed!) the adobe cs3 suite did not work. (And I used the same dvd I use with 10.4.9 uphuck) the crack/patch could not patch the files. And when I finally downloaded a stand alone version of photoshop cs3 that could be patched, it works slow like a 386... so after 2 weeks of fight, I decided to go back to the 10.4.9 uphuck... just because of the adobe issue. Other wise, the system was stable, it seems... Svein_Jarle
Okay, I've got another couple of issues... First off - The network connection is slow as hell. I have deactivated the nForce LAN to get around the LAN-freeze bug, but my Marvel Yukon-chip seems slow and unstable as hell. In regular HTTP, everything is snappy, but when it comes to file transfers outside of http-protocols (torrent, etc), it never reaches speeds over 100kb/s, no matter how open the ports are and how good the seeds are. It usually lays around 50kb/s or way lower. This probably is a hardware-problem, so I hope someone has a solution for the forcedeth.kext, so I can use the nForce-LAN again. Secondly, everything stops periodically. It doesn't freeze directly, but applications stops responding, and I can't launch other applications than Safari. Can't force-quit them either. I can tell when it is about to happen, as the internal hard drives spins up, as if they were to be used. This is very common when trying to install something. The disks spins up, and the cursor-wheel starts to spin, and the application and so to say the whole system stops responding. The only way out is to force-restart the computer the hard way. Third, I experience really poor performance in games, such as Command & Conquer 3. All the videos are really choppy, no matter the resolution and quality settings. The game itself runs at an acceptable speed. However, way slower than it does on my Windows XP-partition. And yes, there are no sound at all in the game. I tried to delete the preference-files, and I actually got sound (!), but only in the menus, and as soon as I changed resolution and quality settings, the audio disappeared and was never to be heard from again (literally). Fourth is that Adobe-programs quits immediately after launch, but I will try the antifreeze-files mentioned earlier in the thread. Julz
Hi Guys I can't even get this disk to boot to install screen on my AMD laptop. It stops on some "can't determine firewire power scheme - defaulting to ....." error even though it seems to load the firewire kext successfully a few lines before. Just as a test I popped the same disk into my missus intel laptop and it booted fine to install screen. i've had a sucessful install of JAS's 10.4.8 before now so I sort of know a few things but this is really bugging me as I can't even get to the install welcome screen. I've tried waiting for ages and all the usual flags but it stalls every time. I notice the disk tries to use Intelgenericpata.kext when other disks use AplleVIAATA.kext (my laptop has via pata controller and chipset K8T800 & 8325) and that this disk doesn't have the Aplleviaata.kext on it. So I thought I'd try and add the kext using magic iso but it loses its boot info somewhere. If anyone has any ideas or how to successfully edit the disk please let me know. matt simis
Tried fixboot, fixmbr and bootcfg rebuild. it doesn't work. Im guessing i set the external to 'active' now i need to set my C drive to active but i cant run fdisk! any help?! thanks! Im not quite clear on the issue you are having (I never wanted to dual boot with Windows, kept it clean and simple for a reason!), but have you tried: Disconnect the external drive Set your BIOS to boot from HDD first (internal one of course) Try Boot. If that doesnt work, start a Windows install from CD but select Other Installation Folder when prompted, do not install over existing Windows setup) then quit it, it will automatically set up the MBR to boot Windows, stripping whatever dual boot config you already had. kogepan
I've tried setting it back to booting from the in. HD. I even tried boot directly from HD by selecting it. I'll try the method you gave me just now. braid
can any one please explain to me what that meant? sad.gifand how can I do that!!!! thanks a million in advance biggrin.gif In the install process of leopard you have the disk utility, there, when you choose the partition, at the bottom of the window there is an advanced/options button. There you select mbr, or other kind of partition. But if you are getting boot error, I suggest you install an earlier version before install leopard, or try to find the topic where somebody (sorry I forgot who) tells how to make your own boot loader.
