haloseven
hey guys- i need some wisdom. im trying to install leopard on a compaq laptop model c727US. specs are: E965 chipset and a P-Dual Core 2130 (1.46) ive tried the kalyway CD with the error of 'waiting on root' which seems to be a SATA issue. its a stock bios so i cant really edit anything in it. i used the Gnome program to repartition it to Fat32, and ive inserted the brazilmac DVD. it reads for awhile, spins the HDD, gets to the apple logo grey screen with the twirling 'loading' indicator. then that indicator freezes. i have a cursor. and it eventually turns into the spiralling 'wait' ball forever. i thought it might take awhile to load, so i fired it off and went to bed. 7 hours later, i have nothing else to show for it. anyone have any ideas? haloseven
ive since rebooted, im going back thru this now. although this laptop specs show it has the x3100 graphics driver. it also leaves the spinning 'wait' ball after it loads that last line of text. okay, the errors above are ' display: family specific matching fails' this is right after the 'dsmos: starting...' dialog. help? Ghostburster
Hi, Well, my first message on this forum. I have problems installing ALC888 sound driver. When I install it, reboot won't work after that. I used the ToH install cd and everything works fine except sound. When i apply skippyretard's ALC sound driver, after shutting down and rebooting, impossible to reboot. Same thing happen with Mac OS 10.4.6. Any clue? djchaos82
Hi djchaos82,It's the infamous Welcome Loop Syndrome. Did you read this? Good luck --S Hm, so now i patched IONetworking but im still stuck in this Loop. damn... EDIT: OK got it: Just enable all networking cards and serial/firewire ports in your bios and it works! (You can even disable it after you booted once). But now i've got another problem, which probably doesn't belong in this thead but i try it: I use EFI v8 with GUID Partitioning and since i've got an 8800 GTS 320MB GFX-card, i'd like to used the gfx-strings instead of injectnv, but when i do that i get a totally pixelated screen. I can choose the resulution but its pixelated as hell... Nano07
Hi guys, I'm looking after some advice. I want to build a video editing / Graphics machine.I will be using mainly Adobe CS3 and Final Cut. At the beginning of this post I saw a config that is fully working with Leopard, but I was wondering if anyone can tell me what hardware upgrades can be done to that config that "WILL WORK 100%" and will also make it a fast machine for graphics and video editing. JonyBravo
I am currently going through the motions outlined in the guide (post #1). I get into the BrazilMac install, do customize. Check your install media or internet connection and try again or contact the software manufacturer for assistance. Thanks for your reply! What I meant is that if that config is good enough to be used intensively for graphics/video editing. Can I improve the hardware somehow and still be 100% working with Leopard. (ie. Can I put 2 processors in that motherboard?, or should I be looking at a better motherboard? if so, what brand and model would be compatible?, What about the Graphics Card? Would that be enough for Video Editing, or should I be looking at something better?) As you can see I'm a nooooooob with Hardware stuff. replicant
Well, count me among one of the successful. OSX 10.5.1 Vanilla Kernel MBR PC EFI v5.2 NVInject 8800GTS 320MB Used this guide plus help from Stel, Onetrack and weaksauce12 Rig specs: Intel D975XBX2 "Bad Axe 2" (audio working, ethernet working, sleep and wake working) Intel Q6600 (stock cooling, stock speeds ---- for now) 4GB (2x2GB) 800mhz G.Skill EVGA 8800GTS 320MB SC (All video options and enhancements are working) Cooler Master 690 (750w PSU -- don't be fooled, I went with a 550w at first, this was NOT enough for this rig.. go for as high as you can afford) 1x Seagate 7200 Barracuda 400GB (Sata 3.0) 1x Seagate 7200 Barracuda 500GB (Sata 3.0) Asus DVDRW (DL) with Lightscribe (Sata) Used WiredByNature's custom Bad Axe 2 only patches, etc to get everything working (including audio, video, pc efi, and time machine). Some hiccups I ran into, that will hopefully help others. When creating your Brazilmac patched DVD, you MUST do this from Tiger, the Oct 31 revision of the patch will result in a BAD patched dvd if you do this in Leopard. Had to install Mac.Nub's Tiger dvd to repatch my retail leopard dvd, because I originally patched it from Leopard. BIOS settings for the Bad Axe 2: HPET enabled Sata mode set to IDE as to prevent from having the removable drive icons (the yellow/orange icons that so many people have had problems with) Disabled 2nd Sata controller (not 100% necessary, just saves a few seconds on boot time) Thank again to everyone here, especially Stel, Onetrack and weaksauce12. Next up will be either a.) installing PC EFI 8.0 to try and get native video card support, or b.) work on getting XP x64 or Vista x64 dual-booted on the same drive, but a separate partition. Good luck with yours! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/72493-leopard-perfect-install/page/21/#findComment-535749 Share on other sites

acideraser
Thanks to all of you for ignoring my question about the kexts. I understand you're all busy with your own stuff, but I think I have waited enough. I am still stuck with a no go no boot install, whatever I try, so I'm going to give up and get back to Jas Tiger. My 2 cents to those who bump into this. Farewell and good luck Hi mate. I'm new here and had "still waiting for root device" problem first. 1st I had IDE DVD and IDE HDD, mobo p5K Jmicron IDE controller - "still waiting for root device" then I bought SATA DVDRW but tried to install to IDE drive "still waiting for root device" finally pluged IDE drive via IDE/SATA connector and SATA DVD boots with Kalyway disk perfect and then according to the tutorial. In my situation the problem was the JMicron controller - I disabled it totally and installed from SATA DVD to SATA HDD. Hope this helps. nevvvw
Compaq Presario V6336EA Formatted hard drive in to 3 parts bcoz i hated VISTA, installed XP home and Pro (thats just for fun) and formatted the third partition with another tool (i don't remember...was it the XP cd?) to FAT named it Leopard, C has Win XP Pro, and D has Win XP Home & E is Leopard Changed bios settings to boot from cd/dvd copied this file to c drive http://www.digitmemo.com/files/tboot.zip add the following line to boot.ini c:\tboot="Mac OSX Leopard" 1 Copy of a properly prepared Brazilmac disk 3910907 (search that in bay site) 1 Copy of the Kalyway boot prepare cd for Leopard 3890122 (search that in bay site) 1 USB Flash drive (formatted FAT) name it 123 http://rapidshare.com/files/65965115/files.rar.html extract this to your USB (123) so once you have finished extracting it should contain a folder called 'files' if you are ready with all the above lets start Insert the Kalyway cd and press any key to boot the cd when you are prompted. After about 5 minutes you will come to a slimmed down tiger install, here in the toolbar at the top of your screen. you'll see 'Utility'. select Disk Utility and select partition we made earlier! Leopard, prepare your drive as HFS+ (journaled) and call it Leopard again. When the disk utility completes, exit it and continue through the installer, there will be 1 package already selected, install it and you are done. Insert the Leopard install disk and reboot your computer. Wait for the DVD to boot up and select a language. The in the toolbar at the top of your screen. you'll see 'Disk Utility'. Open it and select the partition you created earlier (Leopard). Format it to HFS+ (journaled) and call it Leopard. Now do a repair permissions on your drive, this is optional, but it probably won't hurt - safe to do and it might save you another 20 minute bootup into the installer just to do this. When the disk utility completes, exit it and continue through the installer, go through steps on your screen. Select Leopard partition hit customize. deselect all packages. The install will take about an hour, depending on your computer configuration. Take a cup of coffee and start praying. Plug in the USB. When the installation finishes let your computer reboot, with Leopard DVD! This time Select Language and when you see the Welcome screen click Utility'. select Terminal Type (please note thers gap between cd and dots, and also a space before /Volumes) cd .. cd .. cd /Volumes/123/files ./9a581PostPatch.sh select Y for remove .kext and reboot Let your computer reboot, but be sure to leave the install DVD in the drive. When the DVD prompts this time, just let the countdown time out. When it does, your installation of Leopard will automatically boot up. You've done it! incase if you want to feel really good!!! turn the volume way up! i really felt GOOD :-D when i heard the music. and do not update OSX!!!! i got a blue screen after bootup so had to go thru the pain of starting from scratch again. wjj268
Note:There are now MANY confirmed people on the forum running 10.5.1 - please read through for various board issues and how they were overcome Confirmed installations : Onetrack, Stellarolla, Doug The Impaler, jngletiger_im, Macmaniac, flibblesan, Brywalker, bigvalboa, bigcletus, eleavampas, elfdood, sojasMAC, sticman, Ho11ywood45, Memphis2K, Replicant, SwissTurbo, Pepes01, Plas, abeltcb, rpmsquita, BJoestein, Chinasky, steadyboot, decilling, Yoshiko Washima, Weaksauce12, sdmac, jzaw, smorf, sjeezo productione', Geofferooney, Mooo, DJChaos82, Replicant, Stravaganza Direct link to my video because I know you all want to see it Congrats guys - hope you like your new Hack Pro's --------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Folks, Here is a quick how to which will be fleshed out over the next little bit as to a full installation method for Leopard with a properly created Brazilmac disk, the Kalyway Make Boot CD for Leopard and the kexts you need for a perfect system. First off, see my sig for the computer used in this build, YMMV but I picked up my motherboard for 56.00 and its well worth it. Note - terminal commands are bolded Items you will need: 1 USB Flash drive (that you know the volume NAME of) NOT formatted as NTFS - IMPORTANT! If the flash key is ntfs, the installer will not see it. Format as Fat32 first, then put the files you need on it. On the USB key, put the following items, unzip where needed. pc_efi V5.2 (its the latest) NOTE PC_EFI V7 is now out and includes grub - we are testing this solution to see if we need the kalyway disk still dsmos.kext AppleSMBIOS.kext NVinject for Leopard (only if you have an Nvidia based card, if not - ignore any references in the guide to NVinject) 1 Copy of a properly prepared Brazilmac disk 1 Copy of the Kalyway boot prepare cd for Leopard First make sure your assembled computer is able to boot off the DVD drive, insert the Kalyway cd and press any key to boot the cd when you are prompted. After about 5 minutes you will come to a slimmed down tiger install, go to Disk Utility and partition, prepare your drive as you require. Once you are happy make a note of what you called the drive, it will be the [Volume Label] and you will need to know it during patching later. When the disk utility completes, exit it and continue through the installer, there will be 1 package already selected, install it and you are done. Reboot with the BrazilMac dvd in place of the Kalyway disk, same procedure - it will take about 20 minutes to fully boot to the install screen, go have a drink or some food while you wait. At the installer do NOT use disk utility, instead continue with the installer, make sure CUSTOMIZE is selected and DESELECT all packages (Printers, Fonts, X11 etc) that you can, just install the bare system. If you want to have the system check your installation media go ahead, otherwise skip - it takes about 10 minutes. Once the installation is complete you will have to shutdown the computer manually, power on, and again boot into the installer (again, another 20 minutes or so). In the installer, this time go to Utilities -> Terminal. At the #prompt cd to /Volumes/[usb drive name] I called mine PATCHER. Now its time to get friendly with the command line, the commands are simple you are changing the location and ownership of the kext files you have on your usb key. Edit: The first step to do is to remove the original AppleSMBIOS.kext file as you will be putting another in its place and it will not copy over correctly if the one that was installed by Brazilmac exists. skipping this step may cause your computer to have a stop error on bootup. You can do this by typing in rm -rf /Volumes/[Volume Label]/System/Library/Extensions/AppleSMBIOS.kext first: dsmos.kext cp -R dsmos.kext /Volumes/[Volume Label]/System/Library/Extensions/ then AppleSMBIOS.kext cp -R AppleSMBIOS.kext /Volumes/[Volume Label]/System/Library/Extensions/ Optional if you have an Nvidia card: cp -R NVinject.kext /Volumes/[Volume Label]/System/Library/Extensions/ Now chown the lot of them: chown root:wheel /Volumes/[Volume Label]/System/Library/Extensions/dsmos.kext chown root:wheel /Volumes/[Volume Label]/System/Library/Extensions/AppleSMBIOS.kext chown root:wheel /Volumes/[Volume Label]/System/Library/Extensions/NVinject.kext And change permissions You can change the permissions of all of them at the same time cd /Volumes[Volume Label]/System/Library/Extensions/ [enter] chmod -R 755 dsmos.kext AppleSMBIOS.kext NVinject.kext And delete the CPU Power Management - Netkas says its useless and removing it hasn't hurt my system at all. rm -rf AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext It is time to patch EFI/Bios - the command is pretty straight forward, but you will need to know your RDISK information - if you don't know, at the terminal prompt type enter - mount [enter] it will spit back information like this: /dev/disk0s2 on /Volumes/Storage 500 A (hfs, local, journaled) /dev/disk2s2 on /Volumes/Storage 500 B (hfs, local, journaled) /dev/disk1s1 on /Volumes/LEOPARD (hfs, local, journaled) The Volume label you are looking for is the one you installed Leopard onto earlier. At this point, you should exit terminal and load up disk utility unmount the drive that you installed LEOPARD to, when done exit disk utility and go back to terminal to your USB drive cd /Volumes/[usb drive name]/pc_efi [enter] type the following: ./startupfiletool /dev/rdiskXsX ./boot_v5 [enter] where rdiskXsX is the drive and slice identifier you saw in the mount command in my example, mine is disk1s1 (just put an r in front of it) It should write about 7 lines of text, and exit. Quit Terminal. Now back to Disk Utility, and do a repair permissions on your drive, this is optional, but it probably won't hurt - safe to do and it might save you another 20 minute bootup into the installer just to do this. Shutdown your computer, power on, eject the disk - and if all goes well you are now booting a completely unmodified kernel right to the welcome screens. Once at the desktop check to see whats working - if you have a realtek based motherboard, like the one in my signature - you should have internet, audio will not yet be working most likely - if you have the Gigabyte 945GCMX-S2 You can seek out and add in the ALC888 patch now to get all 6 audio ports functioning (including audio IN). You can't reboot now, if you try the computer will HANG, you must shutdown and manually restart if you need to. When ready to patch up your system to 10.5.1 - simple use the software update tool, when it completes manually shutdown - bootup but when you see the DARWIN bootloader hit F8 until you get a prompt and boot in single user mode with -s [enter] At the prompt you must type in: fsck -fy [enter] this will verify and repair any permissions that the update altered. when its done, power off - reboot check your system profile, if all is well, it'll look like this: Hardware Overview: Model Name: Mac Model Identifier: Mac Pro Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 2 L2 Cache: 4 MB Memory: 2 GB Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz Boot ROM Version: Hack.int.0sh Serial Number: LALALALALALALALLA YOU NOW HAVE A MAC PRO ! EDIT: TIME MACHINE FIX To fix Time Machine, you need to get the modified file IONetworkingFamily_581.zip from the usual places, unzip it onto your desktop, and navigate to /System/Library/Extensions - Right click or Command Click to show package contents. Then further navigate to Contents --> MacOS and drop the file there simply replacing the old one. You will be asked to Authenticate, enter your password to do so. Of course we need to go into the command line again for proper permissions, open terminal and type the following. sudo su [enter] put in your password when prompted. cd /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/MacOS/ [enter] chown root:wheel IONetworkingFamily chmod 775 IONetworkingFamily And you are done ! TIME MACHINE is now fully working Have fun - you have a Vanilla Kernel and the machine will rock. post pix of your builds Any questions - let me know.. I'll constantly edit this guide Special thanks to my buddy Stellarolla who stuck with me through 6 hours of broken installations until I finally gave in and got the Kalyway disk (GET IT, none of this will work without it.) Of course thanks and greets out to Netkas for making PC_EFI work, Torque for sticking with us and answering questions, EVERYONE involved in the grand exchange of ideas for making this house of cards actually work You know who you are. Benchmarks - my comp VS a 20" core2duo imac Sounds like an awesome build.... can you please tell me if this system is stable and reliable? i mean besides all the modifications you have done to..... is it like always going to need life long patching for other things? will it now be able to use evry single mac rogram that there is out there? i've just installed osx 10.4.9 on my pc... it has celeron D cpu... intel board.... and 1gb ram.... my cpu has sse3 my saffari and itunes work but the dvd player wont work ..... and idvd 08 crashes...... so now i am turning to you and what im asking is if i follow this setup is it going to work just like a store bought mac? will it run after effects and final cat pro? thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/72493-leopard-perfect-install/page/21/#findComment-536502 Share on other sites
