Mac extended, case sensitive, journaled would be what you're looking for. does it give any messages when it doesn't mount? did you try mounting in terminal?

diskutil mount /dev/disk0s3

(assuming your osx disk is disk3)

I haven't tried mounting in terminal no, It gives this error, and then I tried running first aid on it.is there any way to format as Mac extended, case sensitive, journaled from windows or ubuntu? And if it had to be Mac extended, case sensitive, journaled why would it transfer some files to the fat32 drive then quit?

Ok so i tried the battery meter fix from JJduro on a standard install and it didn't work. I tried it on vanilla kernel and it works, but i realised that its showing 10 hours not minutes. i charged it to full and let it drain to empty and it lasted about 40 minutes. With windows xp it would last around 2 hours and 15 minutes. Is there any way to make it last that long?

I'm using Kalyway 10.5.1

Thanks all.

in your pictures it's still formatted as FAT32.. (see the bottom?)

are you sure you erased it correctly

if you are having a lot of trouble with the HD i suggest trying out GParted (google it) CD and delete the partition, create a new one with FAT32 (or HFS), and go back to the OS X install and erase it to HFS+ journalled

Yeah you are right it is still FAT32, well the erase feature in the install doesn't actually appear to be doing anything except making the partition unmountable. I'll go get GParted and see what I can do with that. thanks.

The Fat32 drive is viewable in vista though so I'm not sure if it's really having any problems.

os x can't install on FAT32, period (correct me if i'm wrong :P)

i'm not sure what the install is doing to your HD though...

@python:

I'm not sure, last time I checked my battery lasts about the same (3 hours, give or take), on os x and windows. maybe 10~20min less for osx cuz it doesn't have cpu throttling

speaking of which, now that we can use the new acpi and apic kexts, can we get cpu throttling to work too? :D

yep, I have same problem, it can't mount usb devices

I finally got it done and i'm on 9.2.0Vanilla(not sure yet but its 9.2.0) right now and the usb's mounts all you have to do is to install the System.kext from the kalyway_10.5.2_kernels.mpkg and it'll work i hope this would help you! and by the way how do i know if i'm on vanilla thanks!

I tried to use the disk utility but I got the same issue again, I chose erase format to extended journaled case sensitive and it didn't format it as that, it just stayed fat and became unmounted and unmountable. the only way to mount it is to erase it as fat32.

it is possible that your install disk is corrupt, i'm not really sure. does it give any error msgs when erasing? can you try erasing it to something else first then erasing to HFS+ journaled again? I'm pretty sure there's a way to do this on terminal...

diskutil eraseVolume HFS+ Leopard /dev/disk0s4

see if it gives you any errors

@easycome24,

vanilla kernel/kexts requires EFI to work. I am not too sure how you would check whether your kernel is vanilla or not though, depends on how you installed it, etc.

that gives me this

"Started erase on disk

disk0s4

Erasing

Mounting Disk

Could not mount disk0s4 with name after erase

Finished erase on disk0s4"

it seems like an oddly large space after name doesn't it

oh the forum got rid of the extra spaces between name and after, it looks like 3 spaces instead of 1

it's odd, if I erase it as case sensitive and have the name in caps, it unmounts my windows partition and the ntfs data partition, if I name it lowercase the two windows drives get mounted and if I format it FAT32 all three are mounted, the only one that never mounts is the ext3 for linux. Even though the drive is staying FAT32 the whole time anyways..

how do i know if i'm on efi i tried to install efi v8 but i don't know if it in i saw some post they said that if your on you will see the model as you mainboard model but i still get mac pro so could any one tell me how to install it correctly thanks!

What exactly are you naming your drive? if its not to do with that i'm not sure what's wrong.. you might need to try another install disk

try something simple like "Leopard" (no spaces funny characters, etc)

@easycome24,

I am using EFI_v8 but it says MacPro for me too. It's because of the AppleSMBIOS. I'm not sure how you would check though... I guess if it boots up it's done correctly :D

well i think i'm done than but isn't the vinalla kernel able to make my computer sleep? and is your Boot ROM: Hack.int.0sh? the only thing that changed is the boot speed it became more faster than befor ha!

I am not sure which component sleep has to deal with, but a lot of laptops have trouble with sleep (and some desktops too), it's not as simple as vanilla kernel. my boot rom reads hack.int.osh too... it's to do with the AppleSMBIOS.I will try draining my battery later to see how it goes. I never really did before but from prior usage it gave me about 2:40~2:50 whereas windows gave me ~3 hours

btw, when you drained your battery, did you adjust the display brightness accordingly? if not, that could drain your battery pretty damn fast

Edit:

It's been 1:02, and my battery is 49% drained (51% left).

this is quite odd, and as the timer on the battery meter isn't working (says 5:04), I can only guess that it's due to the fact that CPU isn't throttled. I will try again later with the 10.4.8 APIC/ACPI kexts, which work with the battery meter. Could be due to 2 cores running as opposed to one core before, but i'm not sure.

This is how I run my tests: battrey at full, no apps running, no screensaver, hard disks are not put to sleep, comp sleep is disabled and monitor brightness adjusts itself apparantly, because it gets dimmer when i unplug it. On xp I was surfing the web or listening to music and it would last around 2 hours. So far these are the results:

With vanilla kernel but without power management kext : ~1 hour 20 minutes

Without vanilla kernel and without power management: ~1 hour 20 minutes

Without vanilla kernel but with power management: ~1 hour 20 minutes

I will still test with vanilla kernel and power management.

Hey guys,

I just flashed the custom bios for my asus w7s, all went smoothly, and then i tried to run the iatoks i1.0r3, and to my surprise i didnt need any perameters at boot, went straight in and worked fine, i even noticed the battery icon appearing int he installer, also very good.

everything was fine until I have to choose a HD to install to, it couldnt find any, only the DVD ROM, so i fired up disk util, and it also wasnt able to see my hard drive or my dvd rom either, Not sure how to fix this, so now I am gonna install the kalyway from scratch, but i wanted to try iatoks coz even from the apple loading screen kalyway has it wide and ugly where iatoks had the correct resolution, i aint sure which is the better release but oh well, it seems like the modified bios's do work i will keep you guys posted on the outcome =D

Thanks antaholics I finally got it to install. One issue though.. when it went to restart into OSX it came back with a b0 error. How do I stop that? thanks.

Did you make your partition id=af?

to check, go to command prompt in windows and type the following:

diskpart
list disk
select disk 0
list part
select part 4 (replace with partition number)s
detail part

if id is not af, do:

set id=af

good luck!

I did two tests so far, and got interesting results:

1. I unplugged my computer from the back and started a timer. The timer on the computer said 9:56, at 99%, etc. By 49%, it had only been 1 hour 2 minutes. (I was running firefox, iTunes, and Adobe Premiere CS3, but not taxing any resources too much.)

2. I started my computer unplugged, and started timing. The timer on my computer read 2:40 correctly  ... xbench scores are significantly lower (~72, vs ~95 of a normal bootup), and the CPU score is exacly 60% of original. I kept track of the time and it approximately followed the 2:40 timing, perhaps a few minutes longer. I checked back an hour or two later, and the battery was at 13%, with the timer at 2:30 or so (I don't exactly remember, this was done last night), and I calculated the approximate batter life to be about 2:50+. (I was running MS Word only, but it's not taxing anything either. Screen was dimmed most of the time or automatically turned off.)

I believe that when you start your laptop with only battery, the mobo puts itself on power saving mode. Unfortunately, OS X doesn't have a way (with CPUPowermanagement) as of yet to distinguish and interchange between the two modes. Does anyone know if anything has been currently implemented to fix this? I didn't look too much into CPU Throttling yet, but I couldn't find much last time I checked. It would be very helpful now that we can use the updated ACPI/APIC kexts! (vanilla ACPI can't have battery meter, I am using iATKOS r1? I think.... 's ACPI)

Try going into BIOS and putting your HD into Comptatible mode, and see if it works. Good luck!
