claud3
hey nemon. first of all you have to use an ide dvd drive and an ide hard disk. Format your partitions to mbr. Install OSX using 10.4.8 jas or 10.4.10 mac nub. If you're using 10.4.8, after your first bootup start updating the system with the tutorial found in the beginning of this thread. Once your at 10.4.10 install mac.nubs vga installer and you should be good to go. claud3
guys what if we stick one of these on the 680i : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....&subcat=424 or http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....&subcat=424 would sata work? What i'm saying is that we stop using onboard sata and revert to a pci-controller and try and format the disks. Would we be able to install osx86 on a sata drive on a 680i this way? eleazar
Hey Guys, Just thought i'd give a quick tut of my method for some of you having trouble. It took me about 20minutes to install Leopard. So, I think some of you might be interested First, download this "Mac OSx86 leopard flat image INTEL" You can find it various places (ie. tehpirate, etc etc). Follow the instructions, make sure you have it install on the correct drive, it wipes whatever drive you set it to (ie. you can't use it on a multiple partitioned harddrive). Once you have it installed successfully, try booting. When I tried to boot, it would immediately reset as soon as the apple logo started loading. And if i booted with -x -v, it would scroll text then immediately reboot. So anyways, go to irc and get the mach_toh kernel. I don't think I can post instructions on how to do that, but it is pretty easy to find (#kernel). Now, install the Macdrive trial and it should detect your new leopard disk, open it up and replace the mach_kernel or whatever it's called (i can't remember atm) with your newly downloaded mach_toh kernel. Also, I had to delete the AppleIntelCPUPower kext file. That isn't the exact name, but it is something silmiar. Now you should be able to reboot with the normal flags. I booted with -x -v -legacy cpus=1, just to be safe. I then installed the golden kernel and that got both of my cores and audio working (wee! ). The only thing I can't get to work is my Geforce 7600. I had it working fine on the JaS 10.4.8 install with NVinject, but it isn't working in 10.5.0 right now It shows up in the boot (correctly identifies it). but then I only have 1024x768 available in resolutions Oh and I still can't get any leopard install to see my sata drives, so if any of you guys have ideas, please let me know Anyways, you should now have a "working" install of leopard Took me literally 15-20minutes! Can't beat that My Specs: evga 680i geforce 7600GT geforce 8600GTS 5 SATA Drives 1 IDE Drive (leopard) Let me know if you guys have questions. -eleazar Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69705-650-and-680i-chipset-thread/page/19/#findComment-540708 Share on other sites

claud3
that's god to know jae-v. I'm not sure if a generic card will work, what i'm sure of is that sata controllers by acard or sonnet will definitely work, however what I'm saying is totally based on what i've read. Good luck I hope it works, this addition would complete everyone's Mac 680i pro. Hyper Salad
I tried ToH Leopard and 10.4.9 Upchuck with many tweaks but no joy... but i did manage to install the 10.4.8 JaS OSX disk fine by pressing F8 and then -f -legacy. once 10.4.8 was installed i tried to update then to 10.4.9 with the updater from apple site but it messed everything up i think because it would just hang on the spinning wheel when it tried to restart after update. so i went back to 10.4.8 JaS again and OSX now boots and runs perfectly apart from it not seeing my PCI cards or slots (I checked to see if the slots were recognized in the system profiler, but no it thinks there are none ). Can anyone help me with that? Thanks a bunch, everyone and anyone...
