vikingboy i made the partition active under windows. but still

not booting. only with dvd.

can u let me know how u did it? step by step?

how did u format your harddisk and what way did u partition it.

oh yeah i dont have the flat image i have the full retail and patched it. hope u guys can help!

hey mike

i'm not familiar with the brazilmac version but i think theres an script you have to run AFTER the install for the bootloader to setup properly..

are you sure you ran it after booting into leopard after installation?

i'm pretty sure its discussed in forums before.

hey thanks to all, i finally made it working!

only issue is now that i have to change always from ide to ahci in bios coz i cant install xp in ahci mode it crashes for some reason. but anyway. i was wondering if anyone has tried to update leopard? and if yes and successfully can u share how u did it? i know i need the efi stuff can someone point me into the right direction? thx

To get winxp to work with ahci, you need a slipstream xp disk with the correct drivers. There are several ways to do this, and multiple webpages/blogs etc. instructing how. Here is just one:

http://www.davidreedonline.com/wordpress/2...-inspiron-1420/

Working from this EFI recipe got me EFIing:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=72493

Macmaniac. Have you got pc_efi working on the p5k-e?

Can you give us some more juicy details?

First off, get rid of your Pioneer DVD, get a Samsung SH-S203B. :P

Ok, I got EFI working by doing the Onetrack recipe here:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=72493

Read the whole thing through.

I have some minor issues. I'm not sure if the issues are because of my homemade BazilMac source DVD, or if its an ASUS P-35 only problem. I'd love to try the process with ToH source DVD, but haven't had luck getting it going.

I don't get a Mac Pro reported by the Profiler. In fact, I need to patch it to make the profiler work. I have posted a fix.

Because I am using 1066Mhz memory, the memory speed is incorrectly displayed. Internal HDD drives get recognized as detachables, with the corresponding icon. Not a big deal. I posted a fix. Note that fix only changes the icon, not how its recognized.

Sleep works well, power button to wake up. I got a slightly higher score in Xbench with vanilla kernel. I'd like to see someone else back up this result, though. Everything else is working awesome. Rock solid. No kernel panics yet.

Same old restart/shut down issue after a sleep. No big deal there.

If you can't get EFI working, you can always upgrade to 10.5.1 the "kingroach" way.

Grovvy man.

I'm not sure if I will get on that bandwagon yet or not. I'm not so sure of the advantages. Maybe after the pioneers have gone a little futher. Speaking of which I ordered a Lite On Burner. Hopefully it's a little better.

i installed this on a fresh install of TOH RC2. unpatched, booting using tboot from xp bootloader.

it also broke my install. kernel panic at bootime.

i have a P5k deluxe with wifi edition.

if there is a way to have just sound working, i would be happy. it's working so far (booting in vga, no sound), and i can use the 2nd network interface on the mother board (deluxe edition).

ps: for those fighting to have sound, i found out that my photon X25 works out of the box for audio and midi. i guess any generic audio usb device should work !

  • 2 weeks later...

i hope most of the p5k-e users would be trying to install iatkos release by uphuck on their hackintosh right now...

so please post your experience whether you were able to do it successfully or not...

i'll be trying to install iATKOS later this weekend when i'm free

if anyone here wants the "rapidly shared" link to iatkos just pm me

i cant post them here due to obvious reasons

thanks everyone and enjoy the weekend

EDIT: iATkOS installation on P5K-E : runs perfectly

  • Download iATkOS v1.0i (2.08 GB size)
  • Extract the zip file using WinRAR 3.71
  • Burn the ISO file to a DVD using the slowest speed possible... usually 2x
  • Restart and make sure "SATA configuration" in BIOS is set as AHCI
  • boot from DVD by pressing F8.. it should boot fine into graphical mode and bring you to the installation screen
  • Now select disk Utility from the utilities menu and partition the disk on which you plan to install leopard.
  • I installed iATkOS on a separate SATA hard disk with just one partition... and chose MBR mode while partitioning... remember to format the partition as Mac journaled file system
  • Now start Darwin_boot under utilities menu... it'll ask for your disk and partition number which you can get from disk utility... remember if its like disk0s1 in disk utility then you have to give disk number 1 and partition number 1 (not 0 and 1.... speaking from experience here)
  • choose yes to install EFI
  • now the script will do its thing... make sure it doesnt throw up any errors and then exit terminal
  • now choose your partition on which to install iATkOS
  • click "customize" and select vanilla kernel, video card drivers, macfuse, etc
  • it should install without any hitch and reboot
  • when it restarts and shows the darwin loader press any key for advanced options and enter "rd=your leopard disk id"... e.g i had to enter "rd=disk0s1" without quotes... if you dont perform this step it'll loop the welcome animation many times
  • now it'll ask you to customize which you can as you like it... and boot to the desktop
  • now edit apple.com.boot.plist file and include the rd command in kernel flags so that you dont have to enter it everytime
  • run the p5kefix script as above.. and reboot.... after this your audio and LAN should be working
  • install the realtek wireless client... which will make your asus wifi work... (i havent been able to test the connection yet)
  • and thats it.... most of the things working right now.. with correct processor and graphics card detection all running on vanilla apple kernel with EFI... the sleep issue is still there.. amybe someone else can help with fixing it...

Ok I am kinda new to this so be gentle.

I have the plain PK5 Motherboard, 1 sata 500gb drive with xp, 1 sata drive not partioned or formatted, EVGA 8800 GTS 640MB, lite one dvd, 4 gb ram, the PK5 can has a ide slot for an ide drive but I have installed the drive yet.

I have done the following:

  • Download iATkOS v1.0i (2.08 GB size)
  • Extract the zip file using WinRAR 3.71
  • Burn the ISO file to a DVD using the slowest speed possible... usually 2x

Restart and make sure "SATA configuration" in BIOS is set as AHCI---the only choice I have in the BIOS is IDE for some reason

  • boot from DVD by pressing F8..

Run darwin in -v because the graphical mode hangs on me.

and it stops after trying to determine fire wire security and I get "waiting for root device"

Any ideas?

Thanks,

SM

hey smoose... you get the waiting for root device error because of the AHCI setting only...

search for it in your BIOS it must be present somewhere..

also you can try updating the bios first from Asus site..

after setting sata config to ahci it should boot fine..

f there is a way to have just sound working, i would be happy. it's working so far (booting in vga, no sound), and i can use the 2nd network interface on the mother board (deluxe edition).

you can edit the p5kefix script to only install AppleAzaliaaudio kext... and it'll install just that.. try if that works for you.

Thanks for the tutorial, firstly than A questio , whe u say audio is workng u mean even the multichannel/out ??

nope.. i'm afraid multichannel is not working at the moment

well.. resuming from sleep still doesnt work with me.. but i havent really tried to get it working.. maybe someone else has...

reboot works fine with me..

and i havent really had any stability issues with leopard yet...

hope it helps..

Hi, I have followed your instruction to install iATKOS. I can boot the first time and configure my system. But when I reboot, i've always an error even if i have modify nothing during the first boot.

It seems to be acpi errors, so i have removed Power managment apple in the "customize screen" before install, but I still have the error.

I have type -v options on boot and the computer freeze on this line :

"Login window application started"

Thanks for your help.

So I did some research:

At the sata configuration I only have one option thats IDE so I updated the bios, no luck still only one option, I went on asus website, they claim for the PK5 family of boards the ICH9 chipset does not support ACHI, which I dont get because I think you all would have the same problem,

The only other place I see ACHI is with the Jmicrom raid controller. Do I need to setup raid to do this.

I am on xp is that the issue?

Thanks in advance?

SM

@.Ga

try booting with your iatkos dvd in disc drive

also try rd=disk0s1 option while darwin is loading... (ofcourse u'll have to customize the command as per ur own disk setup)

@smoose

i've got no raid setup, still it works fine

maybe you can try asking other p5k users... note that mine is p5k-E

xp shouldnt be an issue

@nikey

can you elaborate a little more about what seetings you chose in package installation and if you installed any additional kexts

can somebody confirm that after running iatkos for a long time (days)

as the primary osx in this mobo with a lot of tasks ,applications

burning dvds maybe ...anything that you would do in the pc

it will not crash?

i have kalyway ,EVERYTHING works even sleep ,i've done ALL the apple updates with no probl

but sometimes it crash ...not randomly ,if i push it a lot

does it happen in iatkos?

PLEASE if somebody will reply to my question i need to know that he tested the osx A LOT

not just open it ,surf a little ,play with itunes ,download some updates

and then back to XP for play some games

thank you ..maybe i need to try again iatkos

but please let me know how it works with you

@.Ga

I have modified the com.apple.boot.plist and it's now fine.It didn't work when I enter the rd options at the boot after pushing F8 keys. Now it' ok, everything works fine : graphics card, sound, ethernet :) Really good Good job

Here is a little post about my success with iATKOS v1.0ir2.

Pre Installation:

In BIOS all sata controllers are set to AHCI

My boot disk is partitioned MBR and a blank primary partition is formatted HFS+

During Installation:

DVD Booted fine

The following packages were installed-

*Darwin Bootloader

*All the EFI Packages

*NVInject 320 (for my 8800GTS 320 MB)

*SATA (for JMicron an IHC9R)

*AppleSMBIOS by Netkas

*Remove Thermals

Install ran fine

Post Installation:

Had to set the leo partition as active using a linux live cd and fdisk

Booted with -v and no other flags

Booted fine with dual monitors - recognised from start

No welcome screen loop

All this was recognized out of the box:

*Firewire and USB 2

*JMicron as Generic AHCI, and IHC9R as IHC9-R, and the JMicron ATA bus!

*G80 and both screens (no hotplug)

*Recognised as P5K-E and Q6600 with all cores

*Sleep works when you choose it from the apple menu, and it wakes with the power button. Horay!

I needed to remove the stock AppleAzaliaAudio.kext and the IONetworkingFamily.kext

Replace them with the 2 found in the p5ke leopard script on the front page of this thread. It's my advice to NOT RUN THE SCRIPT, instead manually replace the 2 kexts and do a chown and chmod, then delete the Extensions.kext file and reboot - that will get the LAN and audio working a treat. As the JMIcron and IHC9R are recognised from the start there is no need to install the other 2 files in the fix script.

Only thing about the r2 version is that NTFS support doesn't seem to be an option... Guess I will have to install macFUSE manually.

I've been using it constantly (okay i have been waiting for leo for a long time...) and so far I have had few issues with iATKOS. In fact the experience has been really positive. I used migration assistant to copy my tiger /Library over, and so far:

+Adobe CS3 worked without a hitch (though I did have to reset the activation).

+MS Office worked (as expected)

+Firefox is great

+Quark works

-Parallels needed to be reinstalled

+Logic Pro works

-Final cut studio is flaky. FCP won't launch and neither will compressor - FCP waasn't working because I had deleteed en0, and compressor will probably need to be reinstalled. To do that I'll have to do a fresh install of everything to get it working.

-Candy bar 3 doesn't seem to be able to load my system icons and crashes half the time.

HD performance (rated through Xbench) is much better using the native IHC9R (I don't know if it's hacked or not), I'm scoring 70-80 for uncached write, when it used to be 20.

I'm using a symlinked Applications partition as my apps folder (through fstab) and this doesn't seem to be properly supported. I may end up reformatting the disk to have a larger leo partition I can put all the apps on.
