I was just curious is anyone had tried using one of the new Intel Quad Core chips with OSX86 yet. I saw the Q6600 on Newegg for $289. A little expensive, but not ridiculous. The reviews on Newegg look pretty good...I'm sure it would fly on XP doing some of the video compression that I do. But I wouldn't want to get one and it not work nicely in OSX86, so I was wondering if anyone had used one with OSX86...if so, how does it work?

No uphuck here ;)

I used Jaz 10.4.8 then the 10.4.10 update found at the bay of pirates.

Nothing more..

A friend of mine is using a 8-core Xeon PC with Jas 10.4.8 DVD (he probably updated by now). Fast as hell.

Allsop, what is the file name?

Quad Q6600 for me.

Successfull install with Jas 1.4.8 PPF1 & PPF2, with NV40 patch for 7600GS.

The Q6600 is found like 2 * Core2 Duo @ 2.4 Ghz

Sometimes, my hackintosh freezes.

I have try Uphuck 1.3 and Uphuck 1.4i r3 but i have no luck. Always does not work, maybe i have not found yet the right combination.

That's weird, mine shows up properly ...

Processor Name: Intel® Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6700 @
Processor Speed: 2.67 GHz
Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
Processor Features: FPU VME DE PSE TSC MSR PAE MCE CX8 APIC SEP MTRR PGE MCA CMOV PAT PSE36 CLFSH DS ACPI MMX FXSR SSE SSE2 SS HTT TM SSE3 MON DSCPL VMX EST TM2 MNI CX16 TPR

I used uphuck, too ... version 1.4 (don't remember which revision I have), I picked the universal kernel dated May, 3 (or similar, but I do remember it was "May" something)

Weird, yes !

I have try to change the "kernel flag" to "fsb=266" but always the same.

Thanks for your feedback, i will retry the Uphuck 1.4. Which patch did you choose in addition to the remove apple_power_management ?

If someone could post 1.4.10 update on usenet, it will be great

8 cores work perfectly over here.

My setup:

MB: Tyan Tempest i5000XT

CPU: 2x quadcore Xeon E5310

Ram: 4x1GB FB DIMM

VGA: NVidia 7600GS (Dual Monitor - Dual DVI)

I chose the Tyan Tempest i5000XT after a serious research. Mac Pro uses the same chipset and uphuck 10.4.9 OSX runs flawlessly.

Actually, my DVD was older than I thought ... I have uphuck's 10.4.9 DVD v.1.2 - sorry for the mix-up. Here's what I chose when installing:

  • 10.4.9 Intel uphuck
  • Universal Kernel 2
  • Natit drivers

Yes, I did not check the "Remove CPUPowerManagement kext" option - my system works fine with it being installed.

Yeah, never seen the 10.4.10 update on Usenet, either. I grabbed Pascal's updater via BT - worked wonderfully, btw.
