Hello All!

I almost finished building my dreamy hackintosh for editing.

Mother Board:

ASUS P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP

Proccesor:

Q6600 (as soon as the Penryn gets out and rich good price - i'll swap)

But what about Graphics??

what is the best supported card around?

is it the ATI 1900XT 512MB?

will he work "out of the box"?

What about the amazing NVIDIA 8800/8600 series? are they working good?

tell me ppl!!

:D

I don't know much about ATI cards but for Nvidia it's best to stick to the Geforce 7xxx series.

Check the HCL: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...#Graphics_Cards

Yeah, check the wiki!

The easiest and best IMO is the fastest 256mb 7-series nVidia graphics card you can get...Although the x1950 I think works as well, and might be even faster...It's your call!

Yes, if you want the most compatible card, the 7xxx series is best IMHO. Ati's x1600XT was pretty easy to get to operate fully. If you are looking for the latest, greatest, fastest card, you are asking for driver and functionality problems...at least for the present.

Im just wondering... That motherboard isnt in the HCL, how do you know that it will work for OSX86?

First of all thank you guys:

Looking at the HCL 10.4.8 - Graphics Cards page, there are many suppoted cards.

Here is a list that compiled of:

best cards that are working "out of the box" or with simple patch (such as Titan/Natit)

-that do not require ROM Flash or Terminal commands

Nvidia: 7900 GS/GT 256MB

ATI: X1950XT (256MB) with JCCOOL Driver looking at the JCCOOL Method it seems that this is an some sort of a package to install... So it suppose to be rather simple, right? no Terminal tweaks?

Conclusions:

it seems that 512MB cards demand more work and advanced tweaking then the one's I listed earlier.

correct me if I'm wrong.

assuming that what I listed above is correct, the question is who is better?

The ATI X1950XT 256MB or the Nvidia 7900 GS/GT 256MB

Also I saw this on the HCL 10.4.8 - Graphics Cards page

Note: As of right now, all ATI cards with working kexts have severe slowdown issues with nForce3 chipsets. There is no fix for this, save getting editting out your card from the kext or using Quartz Debug to shut off Quartz Extreme. Edit: Just use agpgart to get no slowdowns at all on nForce3. Joblo10

is it true? or fixed? :)

P.S

I'm a complete newbie in both the mac world and the osx86 world.

;)

P.P.S

What about S-video Out and VIVO?

I understand you can get QE/CI, OpenGL, DVI, ROTATE, Dual Monitor options with the right config, but is it possible to enable the S-video out option?

and hell, If I'm not mistaking the X1950XT has a VIVO option! will it fully work?

Is it possible to capture analog to OSX86 with this card?!

If it is possible I'm seriously thinking about buying that X1950XT!

I'm sorry that I got a bit carried away..

:D

I have the 1950 with jcool's method, you just have to install a package that you can found here:

http://www.happyupload.com/download.php?fi...8bd569542e0142a

It's totally hasslefree

But the X1950XT is a bit noisy.

My advice would be to take a 7900 GT(X), the cooling is more efficient and silent.

Have a look at aquamac's website.

Don't ask me for the URL, I don't have it bookmarked...

Whats more important to me is the competability and perfomance of those two (X1950XT VS 7900GTX):

- Who is more powerfull

- works better on OSX86

- Which of the two card's HDTV\VIVO\capture perfome better

In the worst case I can buy a cooling device to the X1950XT, such as:

Zalman Vga Cooler VF900-Cu Led

or

ZEROtherm GX810 2 Ball VGA Cooling - Retail

and BTW - thanks a lot...

Hi buddy,

i also look around for a PCIE graphic-card.

But i make my choice for a XFX Geforce 7900 GS (Its cheap !) and will change when the Geforce 8800 will supported.

The Geforce works well with my Quad-Boot -> Nvidia has better Linux driver as ATI...

But X1950XT is faster as the Geforce 7900GS.

Driver : Titan/Natit works!

Well Obviosly competability is the most improtant.

But if both cards are compatible and working hassle free, than I can ask who works/perfoms better.

I do want to dual boot, and Im going to play games - not an extreme gamer but love to play every once and a while (between girlfriends :) )

By the way no one answered about the TV out, HDTV and VIVO!!?

did any1 managed to run the VIVO? and actually capture to the OSX86!?

Is it true to say that the X1950XT permoms better than the 7900GT?

I just looked at some benchmarks and its pretty much speaks for itself...

http://xtreview.com/review136.htm

x1950xt pretty much kills the 7900GT

and they to have the same price.

I think I'm going for the sapphire X1950XT 256MB VIVO HDTV

and in Israel it's cheaper than the 7900GT

Do you think Sapphire is the best brand fot the x1950xt or would you recomend something else?

JCool package is made for Sapphire, so stick with Sapphire

Thanks man U the Best!

But please tell me will the TV out work?

and is Jcool's method support the VIVO option on the SAPPHIRE X1950XT 256MB VIVO?

thank!

In fact, I guess none of us have tried... and I am pretty sure it doesn't work.

Ask JCool himself, he will know, or create a new topic on that matter

TV-OUT wont work, huh? so what about the Nvidia 7900GT?

Is there a card that supports TV out / VIVO on the OSX86

Is it possible to set different resolutions for each monitor when using DUAL display?

on x1950xt and/or 7900GT

Hello, i have the Saphire x1950xt PCIe for my Hackintosh. Check out my thread, but now that i have it working, so far it has been flawless. Everygame i throw at it runs full speed with all the goodies on. and i only have a lowly Pentium 4. :-P from what ive read, thats the most powerful %100 supported/working video card out there for us hackintosh peeps/ until someone makes/modifies 8800gtx drivers this is the best. i got mine for $130 at newegg about 2 months ago!! cheap as heck~!
