Guest pcharles25
I am going insane here... InsanelyMac, LOL There is going to be a New Mac Cube Jobs has a Cube Fetish. NExT <-- Must i say more? The New Apple store in NY.<-- Yes. The mini is just a over priced novelty mac, not many take seriously. Well they would if it were $300 not $599(Laugh). iMac - Desktop Product (Mobile Processor) Mini - Desktop Product (Mobile Processor) Pro - High End Server (Complete over kill and expensive) You see we are missing something in the middle... I know apple is not stupid... They are Trying to get every ounce from the iPhone then BAM! The New computers... Black Model of the iMac 20" 24" might be pretty nice. (The new Keyboard is kinda sexy) Death of the Mac Mini or just merge it apple tv... New Value Line Product... For 599.00 in an apple like case that is upgradable. The Cube, I strongly feel there is going to be Cube Product. its going to fill the Gap Between the Mac Pro and Mac Mini. And its simple... If they don't make any cool products soon... Lets just say, we wouldnt want what happened to ford to happen to apple. "Ford's Car and Truck models are just boring" - AP 2005 You never want to get too big for your britches! And like i have posted... The Pentium D is what i am using. Some of you Tear me all up over it. But here is the bottom line. I have under 170.00 bucks here. and i got a Screaming Dual-Core 2.66 Mac. When i say its fast... i mean it. Zoom. OSX make both cores light off like a top fuel dragster. And the new "OSX Software" that is available for the hardware i am using is now 100% Flawless. What i mean is that there is absolutly nothing now i can't do with what i have here that i couldn't do with a "actual" Mac. And i am going to help as many people as i can, These people that want a mac but cannot afford the ridiculous prices they charge for their standard off the shelf intel hardware. Thanks! link to: "Build your own dual core mac for cheap" http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=69...29801&hl=en PS: Also, even if you want to build a AMD Dual core Mac.... Still Cheap around the same price... For the time being i just choose the intel stuff only because i am lazy.
jtwh20
pcharles25, nice choice on the hardware! - i have a similar rig only i got it from the Dell outlet ($250) w/ the same components you mention, and yes it is a screammer.. back to the old question - are you paying a premium for the "nice white box"

Nice dude, this goes to show why I hate all Mac Desktops. Apple is charging $2,500 for their Mac Pro. Well, if you get the basic $2,500 model you get an NVIDIA 7300GT. The 7300GT is out of date and can be bought on newegg for $80.
Synaesthesia
I am going insane here... InsanelyMac, LOL Yes you are, pcharles25. Judging by your last couple of posts, you have severe insane-mac fever. We know, the Pentium-D-805 is an AWESOME chip, really amazing. And the GMA-950's quartz graphics, when I first saw it, also made me wanna post on how cool it is. Really, we've all been there. You need to slow down a bit, take some deep breaths, take it easy for a while.
bwhsh8r
it does make some sense, but at the same time notice how long that gap has been around. its not a recent thing. that gap quite possibly is here to stay. & the ford analogy was quite good. have to admit to that. Guest pcharles25
i think with the introduction of the mac pro that gap became a ocean instead of a river :censored2: i like good analogies
iDerf2006
dude, seriously chill out with topics about things like this and your "amazing" Pentium D. you stated that a C2D iMac was slower than your Pd, not sure how to take you seriously, mate. Okay hold on here, the chips in the Mac Pro are Xeon's, which are not the same as his little cheap processors. Apple has Two Dual Core 2.66ghz Xeon Woodcrest chips in their Mac Pros. Those at Newegg are $719 each for a total of $1,438 for the two. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819117089
Rufus T. Firefly
I agree with you. Macintosh's are way overpriced. I'm on a single core 2.2ghz AMD and it flies
InteliMac Pro
you guys aren't considering that the Mac Pros are professional level machines. top of the line components and the graphics cards are upgradable. I think a refresh is definately long overdue, but it's hardly a sticking point. the iMacs are basically the middle of the line machines apple makes, but aren't upgradable and that sucks. Yes they are wildly popular and they're good machines, but apple needs a consumer level desktop that you can upgrade everything in. I WISH they would make a cube. I love mine. I don't see it happening though.

onizuka
I don't get it... An upgradable cube for $899? If you mean a cube like the G4 cube, don’t even think about upgradability… It was designed as a compact machine, just like the mini was. If you mean a bigger cube, with enough room inside for decent upgradability (pci, pci-express, dimms, hdd bays) then that cube would definitely be too bulky. The cube is not the ideal form factor for an upgradable computer I think… It’s sad to say that, but the best form factor for upgradability is the usual ATX format, a nearly empty case that allows anything being stuck in it. Maybe a smaller Mac Pro at $899 would be cool, but then they need to make affordable displays…
