According to Web Browser Statistics on the Web, Vista's Market Share is continuing to grow as OS X stays the Same.

According to Net Applications, in June Windows Vista accounted for 4.52% of all systems that browsed the Web, up from January's 0.18%. Vista has grown its usage share each month since its release to consumers Jan. 30, hitting 0.93% in February, 2.04% in March, 3.02% in April and 3.74% in May. Apple Inc.'s Mac OS X, meanwhile, accounted for 6.22% in January and hit its high point of 6.46% in May, but it slipped back to 6% in June.

This was already posted in Windows discussion, but dont worry. I'll sum up what I said there. No matter how many bad things you say about Windows, its more popular than OS X. It's going to grow. However, I believe that OS X market share is stalling because of Leopard. Once Leopard gets released and all the blindly pro-apple publications like Newsweek and The New York Times put out their reviews, OS X market share will increase. MS screwed up with Vista. I like Vista, but if MS doesnt make their next OS release a lot more solid they are in for rough times.

I beg to differ. I wouldn't say more popular, but I would say it is more "accepted". The vast majority dont even know of any other operating system out there other than Windows. In that case it is not possible for it to be "popular", when only one OS exists (in their mind). I think if you were to show OS X off to every single person in the world, then the choice would be vastly different, I would presume. That has not happened, and probably sadly never will. I just don't quite think that "popular" is the term to use for Windows.

For the vast majority, it's Stockholm Syndrome...not popularity. That's also the same reason why Windows is more accepted than OS X.

actually, they're missing some things.... web browser stats doesnt mean anything to the os.... cos i know browsers like to report their status as IE 6 or IE mozillia compatible etc.... so u might be using a mac and running firefox, while it is reported that u r using IE.... its a shady figure man.... web browser is not a safe gauge to tell market share...

it muz be a m$ marketing tatic....

Yep I couldn't agree more. Most windows users knows there's "another" operating system out there but they don't know much about it, or what they know is misinformation. Whenever I show a windows user my system it usually results in their amazement, and then after a barrage of questions within a month or so they switch over. When Leopard comes out you will see a lot of these types of windows users switching over. The trend already shows it.

I beg to differ. Apple's "Get a Mac" ad campaign has been hugely succesfull. Steve Ballmer ever said Microsoft's next focus should be "Advertising! Advertising! Ad-ver-tising!". A couple of weeks ago I was at a sports bar and a Mac commercial came on. After it was finished, two people next to us started talking about Macs. One of them said something along the lines of "You know Macs dont get a lot of the problems [Windows Based] PCs do". When I got a Mac Mini, my stepdad asked if it was easier to use than my PC. A while ago my stepdad came home from work one day telling me all about time machine and how a local university planned to put it to use. Any time you go into an Apple store it is packed. And its not just because of the iPods (and now iPhones), people are always gawking at all of the shiney white Macintoshs. A while ago at bestbuy someone passed me on the phone and was saying "..well its only a bit more and it can even run Windows too."

What does all of that mean? A majority of people living a modern lifestyle realize that there are alternatives to Windows, and that the Macintosh is becoming more and more popular. Why arent more people switching? They are, Mac sales are insane: what this figure is showing is odd and wont happen again. Still, people buy Windows PCs every day. And im pretty sure its because a fair chunk of Windows users never have issues with their Windows-based PCs.

This is a direct contradiction to everything else that you said. I believe that they know there is "something" else out there, but they don't know enough about it so they're uncomfortable with it until someone, or something, nudges them along. When they then see the benifits of having a Mac, THAT'S when the lightbulb really goes off over their heads. I see this almost everyday

Well I just read that, at least in Belgium, this isn't true. Apparently, there are more Mac'ers in Belgium then Vista-users :)

Win XP still kicks the {censored} out of both, but hey, it's a start right? :)

I also notice a growing trend of people getting MB(P)'s on a rather large computer forum I visit daily :)

whast with the OH NO in the title destrivption.. get over it.. It happens...

how ever they failed to take incount oh mnay of these vista poping up are legal and not useing the OEM 2.0 bios hack/drivers?

honesly u never hear about people download OSX for there real macs.. then agian any time some one buys a mac the newest OS X is alrdy comming with it.. Unlike PC that oly come wiht windowsXP or Vista home permiume. 10 to 1 most hte installion and OEM 2.0 Ulmate Hack installs

I guess that only goes to show you that they are not that accurate. Tell them to put this in their pipe and smoke it ;)

Record Mac sales

During the quarter, Apple shipped more than 1.7 million Macs, a 33-percent rise over the what it shipped in the third quarter of 2006 and 2.5 times the industry-wide growth rate published by market-research firm IDC.

More significantly, Apple’s third-quarter Mac sales marked a record for the company, topping the previous quarterly high of 1.61 million Macs shipped during the fourth quarter of 2006.

And once Leopard comes out the floodgates will be released and Mac sales will go through the roof. Oh how I wish I could buy some Apple stock right about now :D
