...exept for rumours like this:

"...First, the Rosetta emulation platform in 10.4.3 build 8F1111A has been upgraded to feature full G4 support, including Altivec. This not only adds a new layer of compatibility to Rosetta, but also improved speed for Altivec-equipped applications. This upgrade is reportedly available as a small downloadable update to build 8F1111..."

Has anyone seen it? Downloaded it? Tried it?

I don't believe the update exists. Like I've read from other posters, I haven't seen an Apple build with an "A" beside it. Apple usually just increments the build number by 1. I could be wrong in this case, but I don't believe it.

During the Tiger beta phase there were a couple of "A" build updates, 8a323a being one of them. "A" usually denotes an update, but not a full new build. There was also a 8a351b update.

Guess I was wrong. Thanks for confirming that "letter appending" updates have existed before. Still doesn't confirm 8F1111a, though, but that it could exist.

Thanks for that info, grabber. I'd never noticed that, but on the PPC side I've never had a beta release, just things from Software Update. ;)

Same for me, cyrana :)

Besides, in our case the 8f1111 release is the first one with working "Software update" function. And despite it shows smth like "your software is up to date" let us remember - in early releases it just could not finish its checking process..

well, anyway by X-mas it's gonna be 10.4.4 out!

probably :)

Just a slightly OT note. Definitely don't use software update unless you have a devkit. I mean, it does report to a central server if you catch my drift. ;)

Yes cyrana, I catch your meaning, thanx for care but as for me I desided to give a system a full test from the very beginning and this function was subject to it too. :)

Will ask my dev, but my dev said he has seen nothing about it and he searched the site and his emails~

Yes ask him please.

Well, I say again - despite in a month or so we all shall have the public release anyway, the proper knowledge about this notorious "A" update wold let me feel at ease..

At least just if it exists or not! :))

I saw on some bitttorrent sites some developer releases of Mac OS X since Panther came out they begin to appear before Apple releases the updates.

A little birdy sent me this pic,

TRUE or MYth

I dont know but check it out

Thanx jozh! It looks true.

It seems to me the 8f1111a update would be the one to stop at for some time - untill we get the final release..

Let us hope that another birdy with stronger wings wil bring us all some day this 12 Megs gift. :)

I was told that this A release basicly replaces rosetta this is my source quote

"1111a only provides a new rosetta"

But that would be great as many apps dont work now.

Lets hope xmas will be a bit early :D

Well if you could find out where on the ADC site it's located then I could get my dev to check it out. He says he can still find nothing about 8F1111A at all and he's checked the ADC site numerous times.

DeathChill this is what was told to me

"it was released to the developers..."

"it's a Software Update from the SU server

you can't download it as a package normally"

Maybe this would help ?

Look at this site... the Apple Museum... it shows all the Mac OS X build numbers and it includes the 8F1111A:

Apple Museum - MacOS X Build Numbers

Scroll all the way to the bottom.. it is the second to the last one on the list.

This is now available for download from Maxxuss. It does indeed exist!
