I recently got an HTC 8125. 128mb ROM, 64mb RAM, and a 2gig MiniSD that I encrypted. It has Wifi, Bluetooth, and a 200mhz moto PPC processor (Mac processor) overclocked to 248mhz.

It came with AT&T (logo looks like the DeathStar) with WM5 on it enriched with DRM, and a few CMS tracking progs that track your phone in categories by your IPL version. :( I figured this out after 30 minutes when my G4 went nuts while I was sitting next to it. I reflashed it with an unofficial WM6 stock ROM, and ridded the phone of the Cingular {censored}. Looks better and runs like a charm. Now to get it to run Linux, or OS X. :) We'll see when the iPhone comes out, if someone can grab the rom, and see if these little machines got the horsepower to run it.

It makes a great portable laptop. Now that it is unlocked, I can switch carrier towers at will, and not get billed. :P

Now my IPL reads 0.00.0000. My SSID is random now as well.

I've got a palm lifedrive without cellular capabilities I use for medical software while rounding in the morning. the 4gb harddrive is great but it did fail once (conveniently outside the 1 year warranty, but I did pay for the 3 year extra so it was covered). It's a good piece of hardware but it's a little heavy and chances are they'll move towards flash media over a spinning harddrive in the next versions anyway.

I don't have one of those PDAs but I am really curious about how that works. You're using your smartphone as a carrier neutral device? Do you still have a phone number? Could you point me to a tutorial on what you did and how it functions please? I've looked all over Howardforums.com and couldn't find anything. I would love to be able to keep an extra device just for my car as I have to drive out of town for work alot.

To respond to your original post, I use a chocolate on verizon. I kno it's not a PDA but have tethering set up and DUN working on it. I managed to get other things like ringtones and wallpapers on it but BITPIM doesn't like working with this device at all. I was originally going to go with a motorolaQ last Xmas but decided against it when i found out that the data plan was $80 a month.

Sorry about the newb questions but I'm still pretty new to the cell phone hacking thing. I'm not entirely clear on how you can connect to cell towers and not get billed. I'm assuming you're CID unlocking your device. What I don't understand is how you can still get full use of your phone if your device is carrier neutral. Do you even need a SIM card and an account to do this?

Ive got a Dell Axim X51! there pretty decent 520Mhz XScale CPU. I very much doubt you will be apple to put the iPhones ROM onto your PDA as ROMs have to be customized for every device and all the drivers etc. will have to be on the ROM. The iPhone will probably have one of the chips that protects it from being run on any other PDA lol. Linux is a possibility if you go to XDA Developers they hack ROMs all the time! ive already seen it on the web but only few devices are supported. Apple are playing catch up in the PDA market now haha an iPhone is £300 on contract!

I have a XDA I. Pretty crappy too. 4096 color Screen, 220 Mhz ARM CPU, 64MB RAM, Built Call dropping and OS Lockup facility(Thank you for the POS MicroCrap)

Runs WM2003. Crashes at least twice a day during important calls/tasks. Drops at least 50% of incoming Calls. Call waiting only works with telemarketing calls. Though you cant go back to Call 1 without disconnecting it.

Has to be hard reset-ed at least once in 2 weeks.

Thank God I never made the mistake to spend money on one, my dad got it as a gift.

You need a "Special" SIM card on a SIM unlocked phone, You can probably find them on ebay. They are legal in most countries but for the unfree America. :|

A HP rx3115(tethered to my armchair,go Nuvo!) and a HTC Hermes sans videoconfrencing camera. AKA the Cingular 8525. No HSPDA in my area.(Everywhere else surrouding my city has it) Grr. I had a Wiz, but the OMAP(its an ARM, OryHara) and the paltry 195mhz was too slow for my DVD watching habits.

It's(the Hermes) been hacked and hacked and hacked. WM6  , no SIM lock, you name it! Thanks to the boys at XDA Developers. Now if I could plug in my Shure i2c's... I think someone's made a USB to 3.5 mm adapter, but I can't find the link.

Anyone besides 3emgma out there got a Palm deivice?

I've looked all over the xda forums but I have yet to find what you described. Could you share which "special" SIM card is required or how to make a regular SIM card "special"? If you don't want to post the info here then could you PM me with the info or link me to a place that has the info?

Pardon my PDA newbness and thanks for your help,

Yoda

Hey OryHara, now that the iPhone is unlocked, could we do a similar setup on it? And what about using it internationally in the UK? I am going to be moving to and living in the UK for the next 2 years, but will frequently fly back and forth to the US. That would be awesome to hack for free service while in the US.

How do you go about doing all that?
