zman7326
Alright well I just bought a new soundcard for my intel celeron d running mac os x 10.4.7 "tiger", the sound is M-AUDIO Revolution 5.1. I was wonder how do I install it and get it to work right? If that soundcard doesn't work, what pci soundcard can I buy that will work on mac os x? Thanks for any information, Z-Man Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42453-soundcards-for-mac-os-x/ Share on other sites

mdg
I use Creative X Fi external (USB), and it rocks! Works right out of the box with very good sound. Hagar
This question keeps coming up again and again and again.. Various excellent projects to produce drivers for Live/Audigy etc cards notwithstanding, pci sound cards have *very little* support on os x.. official drivers are non-existent because there are no pci slots in any intel mac. You can use a c-media 8738 card with dogberts driver (afaik still output-only) or a soundblaster 128 or similar with maxxuss's 1371 driver. People are working on drivers.. The situation may change. Hiro_
I don't recommend CMI8738, work very poor with dogberts kext (I know because I've one), not works mic, not works 5.1 only stereo, i also have Realtek ALC650 AC97 than also not works, so i believe than no would be the better guy for recommend a sound card for you, but in my researches trying find solutions for my hardware i read much about USB sound cards. Hiro_
Would be a good choice for me too, if at my country it not costs around US$ 320.00. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42453-soundcards-for-mac-os-x/#findComment-304218 Share on other sites
voxxdigital
Not even in the Mac Pro?? There are drivers for the Delta series fromM-Audio for 10.4.8 - So is the Revolution an old card? It's not about the card's age, it's because THERE IS NO APPLE MACINTOSH INTEL WITH PCI SLOTS so there is no reason at all for the software developers compile PCI card drivers for the Mac Intel. The latest Mac with PCI slots was the Power Mac G4 MDD (and the G5 1.6 mono if I'm not mistaken). However if you return your PCI card and exchange it for an external firewire or USB audio interface it will work with OSX86. I have ona M-Audio Audiophile USB and it works like a charm.
