this link http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=4548 will tell you more

[this is just a cut and paste from the above link]

Seems like China has a new phone in development that looks pretty much like Apple's iPhone with Touch Screen functionality. It is made by a company called Meizu and it is known as M8. It is smaller than Apple iPhone and thus a smaller screen size of 3.3-inches but just about as thin. The screen resolution is higher at 720x480 compared to 320x480 on the iPhone. M8 is powered by ARM11 processor with video codec that supports 720x480 VGA at 30fps. It runs on Win CE 6.0 OS and has Bluetooth and TV-out functionality. It appears that there are 2 cameras integrated with the back at 3 megapixels and the front at 0.3 mega pixels. It supports both GSM and TD-SDMA network. We will await for more details to be revealed by the developer at this present moment.

Hope I m not violating anything here.. ;)

What's funny is the technology in this owns Apple's technology.

Yea totally. You can even use cables instead of this oldschool wlan :hysterical:

lol, no but honestly, it says that it has a higher reso screen and cam. But what am

I supposed to do with even a terrabit pixel camera, if I am still limited to

Windows mobile. On the other side I have to say that the TV out is really nice! :)

I smell a lawsuit brewing. It's definitely a knockoff. The Cal, Calc, Phone, and Mail icons look very close. The rounded plastic edges look the same. The Meizu M8 should be called the ©iPhone for Copyright infringement Phone.

You know, Windows Mobile isn't great, but the iPhone version of OS X sucks ass. Any "PDA" which can't run 3rd party applications is useless in my book. So one is just a phone, and the other is a not-bad working PDA plus a phone...

Yes this is the main point, although we don't know much about the iPhone version yet.

The concept of the iPhone seems to me like some all-inclusive holiday resort...: Take it or leave it, no additional extras allowed. This *might* be a good idea for the average user if it just works and do the things you want. But for geeks like us it may become an uninteresting gadget, there will be no wardriving apps etc., and nothing else beyond Apples ideas.

But most people still wants it badly, because it is a whole new concept of the GUI, and others speculate about running Linux on it sooner or later.

The second thing is that I won't buy a chinese iPhone-clone for exactly four reasons:

1. I hate the way they copy all of our products. They have stolen technology from trains, trucks, machines, they even (and this is no joke) copied two complete villages from Germany and England and built it 1 on 1 somewhere in mao-land.

2. They drop the prices for quality. These products are looking good, but in most cases they are f*cking {censored}. If you buy cheap, you buy twice.

3. Also, by dropping the prices, they destroy our markets. I have no problem with china inventing electronic stuff on their own, or manufacturing things for big vendors. But their paramount leaders have to learn the rules and yea they will, sooner or later.

4. That leads me to som kinda "western-allies" patriotism. Sorry I can't help it. This is not mant as an offend to our boardies from china, they are surely nice people. I am just speaking about the persons that rule their system.

This makes a dragon looking like a poor copycat.

Well not too shabby...

Not trying to be a party pooper but when is it going to be available??

That said, here's my current favourite

* GPS !!

* quad band

* positively NO Windows

* open source

* IMO very competitive as for design

* excellent price

AND

* on the market in a couple of weeks :)

I should say there is nothing copied from iPhone since the design of this mobile (called MiniOne) was started from early 2006. As the message from the company says, the only inspiration got from iPhone is the outside metal cover, which is not unique to iPhone though.

Here is the original design before iPhone was announced.

Here are some more photos of the industrial prototype. The main difference is there is metal around cover added.

Here are the blueprints in his drawer from the designer.

Totally agree. The lack of 3rd party apps is going to be a serious problem IMHO. I seriously doubt that Apple is going to be able to keep this thing locked down though. The demand for personalization and utilities for the phone will be too high. Two examples of the need for 3rd party apps can be seen right off the bat for business users... the need to control or present Keynote presentations and syncing, e.g. MS Office (Entourage) sync functionality.

Example 1..Presentations. Most pocket pcs and windows mobile devices will let you control or launch a powerpoint presentation from the device onto a tv, projector, other pc through a laptop. Some will let you broadcast your presentation from the pocket pc to another video input without the need for a laptop. I can see Apple adding similar functionality for Keynote, but what about Powerpoint? I seriously doubt Apple is going to program an app for MS presentations. And the lack of an ability to display them via a Sailing Clicker type of app would make it a serious drawback for a lot of business users.

Example 2. Sync. So what about those people who don't use Apple Mail or even the upcoming Iwork with spreadsheet program? Once again, is Apple going to forgo the ability to read or edit Excel spreadsheets on the Iphone? While Apple's Iwork 07 may be able to import MS Excel docs, who knows whether it will be able to interpret Excel functions.

I hope that Apple changes their mind about 3rd party apps, and that this "only Apple apps" decision is temporary. It does make sense that they haven't given the phone out to most developers -> no 3rd party apps yet -> no copy cats companies getting a hold of the machine before it launches.

I like this version even more, it is really beautiful. :whistle: Looks smooth like an iPod.

btw. afaik Apple started 2004 with iPhone development so I think theoretically LG,

Prada and whoever would have had enough time to copy it (if they really did) :)

but no one knew about it past speculation, and no one knew what itd look like, so thats just silly, how could they copy something that theyd never seen before? and yea, they both look good though....

and on 3rd party support, thatll be a killer.... :/

Well,

there is nothing new about it. Do a google for the hippest people on

industrial espionage, and read the articles from FinancialTimes (.de),

Guardian (uk), DerSpiegel (.de) and Taipei Times: you will find out

that they make billions and billions of dollar with that every year.

Copying is a very big business.

"These were not normal hackers," said a source close to the

NISCC. "The degree of sophistication was extremely high. They were

very clever programmers."

Remember when 10.4.3 for hackintosh came out on DVD in Taiwan just

a few days after it was released here? Now that was no biggie, but they

do it with everything. Especially when it comes to big business, there

are many experts with high skills that are specialized on dealing with sorts

of information, that macrumors.com would kill for :thumbsdown_anim:
