se1zure
NOTE: Appearently when i boot using -v, the error is: The main thing it said was: "Failed to load Extension com.apple.driver.AppleUSBUHCI." IF that makes sense to anyone. I installed the new Jas 10.4.8 on my sata hard drive (complete install, on a blank hard drive). The install goes fine, and then, when I try to boot, it getsz tot eh gray apple screen, and then fades dark, saying "Mac OSX needs to restart" in several languages. I have tryed everything I can think of, can anyone else help me, or walk me through what I need to do, and if need be, a complete re-install. Please, if anyone can help, that would be great. I would be wiling to paypal somone some money if they can completely solve my problem, and have me result in a working osx. A video of what happens when I try to boot osx...: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feZSUmaWMzo it may take a moment, as I just uploaded it a moment ago, and you tube needs to refresh the page. My procedures of installation: I did NO OTHER STEPS than the ones listed below. 1) I got a brand new, 250gb, sata Samsung Hard Drive. 2) I formatted the drive using fat32 3) I downloaded the JAS install image 4) I used nero to burn this to a dvd iso disk 5) I took out all other hard drives from my computer. 6) I put int he Samsung drive. 7) I put int he disk into the dvd drive. 8) I rebooted the computer, and booted from the dvd. A Mac osx install "os" live cd-style thing opened. 9) i opened up the disk utility app in the mac install 10) I partitioned the entire drive using mac os journaled 11) I proceeded to install mac on the entire drive, using custom install, checking x11, unchecking the languages, and printer drivers, and checking the intel portion, unchecking the amd portion. 12) I let the install finish. Then I restarted my computer. 13) It boots form the mac osx hard drive (the samsung one), and the apple logo comes on the screen. THen teh screen dism, and the restar osx error comes up. Colonel
People say to type "cpus=1" at the darwin boot screen, but there is no time to type that. When i boot from that drive, it simply beigins to boot mac osx, without asking for confirmation or anything Press F8 right before Mac OS X boots and you will get a boot prompt. This is where you can type in "cpus=1". se1zure
Press F8 right before Mac OS X boots and you will get a boot prompt. This is where you can type in "cpus=1". Should there be any confirmation after typing that? I pressed f8, and it gave me a list of things i could type like -v and -? thne it said "boot:" I typed cpus=1 so it looked like "boot: cpus=1" then i hit enter. The boot just went on ike normal.,.. shouldn't there have been some sort of confrimation or something? The error still happened either way. DO you knwo what is wrong? And again, if you, or anyone can help me get this to work, I'll paypal you some money. joe75
You need to use a different kernel and still try cpus=1 if you have problems booting and put you money away, you can get plenty of help with out bribs Did you see stuttering during the initial install, maybe try installing with cpus=1. se1zure
Well, here is a video of my exact procedure of attempting to boot osx. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feZSUmaWMzo [[it may take a moment, i just uploaded it, and you tube has to add it]] I tried a 10.4.6 myzar dvd as well. It did not work. I realize I can get help without bribes, But I have been trying to solve this for days, and would like to get it figured out by rewarding people who are willing to help me out at this moment. se1zure
Here are the erros it spits out: There is a photo of the screen. I'm assuming the errors it finds are the things in yellow. The main thing it said was: "Failed to load Extension com.apple.driver.AppleUSBUHCI." whatever that means. If you could help me figure out what to do, that would be great. Big Kahuna
did you get the JaS 10.4.8 install dvd AND the ppf to patch it ??? Also, have you changed any usb settings in bios, to see if they make difference? se1zure
what is the ppf? all i got was the torrend form demonoid, called JaS.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3 I extracted that, which had like 260 files. I double clicked the first one, and then burned the image it gave me using nero. It booted fine, and installed, as far as I coud tell, fine. asap18
If you just got the torrent that come out like a week ago, i recommend you follow Big Kahunas instructutions and ppf patch it since some kexts were causing bootup problems like yours. Also search for "p5w dh" problems to see if any match yours. Mr Malicious
It looks like the link load errors are from older kexts trying to run with the kernel. Not idea why your getting this, unless A. somehow the 10.4.8 intel combo wasn't checked off and you thought it was. B.somehow the combo update didn't install even though you checked it. C.The 10.4.8 combo update doesnt update that kext and the symbols for it are left out of the new 10.4.8 system.kext If you can, I would try for now disabling usb support in the bios just as a test to see if you get it to boot past this point. Also if you have any other kexts with undefind symbols please post info on that also. RipZone
I have the exact same problem. Installed the newest 10.4.8 DVD from JaS and it hangs with the same error message. I have a AMD Athlon 3700+ Venice, DFI Lan Party NF4. Logitech USB keyboard & Razer USB mouse, NVIDIA 6600GT PCI-E, 1GB RAM and I am installing it in a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 IDE hard drive. Any help would be nice! Thanks! RipZone
I just noticed that in the installer, while installing the AMD patch, it tells you to do -v -s at the Darwin prompt and type something like ./patcher AMD.CPUID.... or something like that, does that really matter? And btw, after the install, it hangs while restarting the machine (MACH Reboot)... RipZone
I have been trying to install the network drivers and found the problem: this release misses some networking files that are causing problems in USB aswell. I am already downloading the patch that is on Demonoid. That must be your problem too, se1zure! se1zure
Okay, first off, woot! I resolved the issue, I simply did a reinstall, picking only system files, and intel under the custom install. Everythiung booted using only cpus=1! My guess is that the x11 I tried before messed me up... because I doube the video card or printer drivers would. My only problem now... NO sound. My mobo uses realtek audio drivers, but neither of the ports recognise headphones or speakers . I didn't see realtek drivers either. On their site, they have a unix driver, intentded for linux, but since it's unix it should work right? I guess I'll give it a go. I am installing my old version of mac photoshop cs1 as we speak. THe only problem, is that mac seems somewhat laggy.. not sure why, but I suppose I can live with it. Also, anyone know how I can change the screen resolution? oktar
i had this problem too, with a fresh install from jas 10.4.8 (8.8.1) , turned out i had turn off all my powersaving functions. I had some line in the linux dmesg output that could have something to do with it. "[17179599.932000] apm: disabled - APM is not SMP safe." So i guess it is an APM problem. Also, anyone know how I can change the screen resolution?at boot type:"Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32" this will give you 1280x1024 resolution at 32 bit color.
